Calling Dr. Bombay!

dr-bombay107c

Emergency, come right away!

Anyone remember Dr. Bombay from Bewitched?

Remember his dubious cures?

Remember the way he used to chase his nurses?

I think I met Dr. Bombay yesterday! No I’m kidding, sort of.  So for the last week or so, I’ve been having jaw/ear pain on the left side.

First I tried my usual cure–ignoring it. I’m actually very gifted at ignoring what I don’t want to deal with!

samgreenstripeBut after a few nights of waking up at 2am in pain, I was getting a tad cranky.  So I relented and made a doctor appointment. I know it’s probably either a mild ear infection or TMJ, or something like that. Yesterday I went into for the doctor visit. In minutes, I started to feel like Samantha with her weird symptoms.  BEFORE the doctor even came in, I was asked over and over to describe the symptoms.

The nurse leaves, and when she returns,  she’s dragging a machine with a million wires.  It looked like something Dr Bombay used to cure Sam, but it was an actually an EKG machine. They thought I might be having a heart attack.

Okay, okay, I know woman have silent heart attacks, and sometimes jaw pain can be a symptom…but seriously?

It was forty minutes before I ever saw the doctor and another half hour before I got out of there, only to be sent to another town for a full set of x-rays.

The end result? Nothing yet. I’m pretty sure I’m not having a heart attack, and there doesn’t appear to be any infection.  Eventually someone will read the x-rays and call more…or not…who knows.

I think I should have just called Dr. Bombay.

So do you all remember Dr. Bombay? Do you think he could cure my jaw/ear pain? Do you have something we can ask Dr. Bombay to cure?

Geez, how do you remember these things? Okay, I don’t remember him very well as Dr. Bombay, but wasn’t he also Capt (Col?) Crightonton on Hogan’s Heros? And he played the WWI pilot in THE MUMMY with Brendan Frasier.

I do remember him from Bewitched but I loved him in the Mummy…

    “Is it dangerous?”
“You might not live through it.”
    “Really….”

Ear and jaw pain? Ouch. I get jaw pain every now and again, but it’s usually not associated with ear pain, but just sinus issues. X-Rays? Really? Well I hope everything is okay. I’m winging good health spells your way as we speak.

Margaret, I’m usually very bad at remembering stuff from TV shows and movies, but this stuck. I didn’t even realize he was in Hogan’s Heroes, and I never saw THE MUMMY.

Erika, I obviously missed out by not seeing THE MUMMY!

I’ve had that sinus pain! This is different, back in the joint of my jaw. They are looking at the joint on the x-ray. That I needed, the EKG? Overkill!

Thanks for the wings of good health :-) This isn’t bad, just annoying.

I remember Dr. Bombay. And I loved The Mummy movies, all three of them. Brendan Frasier as Rick? YUMMY MUMMY!

I’d ask Dr. Bombay to cure my MS but I shudder to think of the results! I just got it back from my editor for what’s hopefully the last round before it goes to the copy reader. I’m getting ready to open it and go hybernate until it’s done! See ya’ll on the other side.

Send monkeys and Wingslayer recruits with appletinis!

*whips up a Get Better Soon spell and forwards it to Jen!*

Silver, I’m holding my breath with you! Hoping this latest round of edits is easy!

Wing Slayer recruits are being rounded up as we speak.

Does today feel like Friday to anyone else?

Okay. I’ve fired my Muse. I need appletinis. And recruits! And I guess this is a three-day weekend for a lot of people so this would be like Friday.

And actually, there’s only a couple of scenes that need major work–one I’m struggling with so the whole thing is shoved away until tomorrow while I chew on it. *headdesk*

Silver, you do need an appletini! A whole cauldran full!

If it helps, I almost always have to walk away from revisions when I first get them. This “break” may or may not involve some sulking :-) Then I go back and tackle it.

In the meantime, APPLETINIS are the answer!

LOL, Erika! I’m up at six CST. Hey, it beats getting up at 3:30 like I used to do when I went to work at 5 AM, but I have to admit, I was far more productive then than I am now!
Jen, you need to have a weekend marathon with the Mummy movies! I’d join you if I could and whip up a huge batch of appletinis! I liked the third Mummy, but didn’t like the chick they cast as his wife. My kid is off tomorrow, so we are having a long weekend.
Good luck on figuring out the jaw pain, Jen. Years ago, I had a friend who had jaw pain that was due to the shoes she wore. Somehow she altered the way she walked and it cause pressure on some nerve somewhere. The body is a weird, weird thing.
Ugh, on the edits, Silver. Good Luck!

Margaret, ugh! Getting up at 3:30 is insane! I’m an early riser, although I don’t usually answer blog stuff until a little later.

A MUMMY weekend–yes! We should invite Brendon Fraiser too :-)

The jaw pain is most likely TMJ or related to my arthritis. I just didn’t expect such a dramatic reaction from the docs in my primary care office.

Yes I do remember him. Jaw and ear pain can be connected to your sinuses. Also a tooth ache. My sister went to the doctor with and ear ache and it was not her ear it was coming from a tooth. Sounds like they gave you the once over though.

Quilt Lady, glad someone else remembers him! Really…jaw pain and it was a tooth? Pain can present so weird! I just had the whole dental thing a month ago, with x-rays, so it’s not that. I’m betting on TMJ and it’s time to just quit stressing!

I soooo remember Dr. Bombay! He seems more competent than some doctors today in the health care system.
As to the ear/jaw pain. I had that a few years ago and went to my dentist first. He diagnosed teeth grinding while sleeping. Normally, when you sleep, everything loosens and rests while sleeping. However, it seems that I tense up and grind my teeth. When I began waking up barely able to open my mouth I made a decision to see my dentist before an ear/nose/throat specialist. I was fitted with a night appliance for my lower teeth and the pain went away.
    Just a thought.
I read Blood Magic and can’t wait for Soul Magic to appear. It says coming soon but that could mean a year or more in publisher’s speak. Any latent witch talent would be great to speed up the author talent…please!
Thank you for this beginning of the Wing Slayer Series. Looks like it could be at least four to six novels.
    Thanks, again
    Adele

Hi Adele! It’s fantastic that you stopped by! I’m glad you enjoyed BLOOD MAGIC! SOUL MAGIC will hit the book stores on November 24th 2009. My publisher has assured me that they don’t need my magic to speed up the process :-)

Your suggestion of what’s wrong with my jaw is so much more reasonable than hooking me up to an EKG! I suspect it’s something like what you’ve described.

I really miss Dr. Bombay–life was never boring when he popped in!
