Monday…Again!

The wizard and I went to dinner Friday night to celebrate our anniversary. We went down to the beach for dinner, very nice! I had lobster and a couple glasses of wine.

calamariI even tried Calamari! Wizard has been “suggesting” I try it for years.

He swears it doesn’t taste like fish. I don’t  like fish, although I love shellfish.

So we’re in this lovely restaurant, overlooking the boats and I get a sudden infusion of courage (it tasted like wine) and we ordered a calamari appetizer.

Okay, I’ll concede it doesn’t taste like fish.

It tastes like fried, stringy rubber. But the dipping sauce was really interesting so I ate it.

And drank wine :-) It went down real smooth that way!

The rest of the weekend was mostly spent working.  One thing I never knew before publishing was how hard I’d work.  But I chose this life!

Oh, I had to run to Target for something else, and accidentally came out with a book. Nalini Singh’s BLAZE OF MEMORY! I love Nalini’s books but now I’m all testy because I have so little time to read. The book is sitting here on my desk taunting me.

So how was your weekend?

Oh Jen… I ate calamari once and that was enough for me too! Very proud of you (the wine) that you dived in and tried it! =)
    Congrats on the anniversary celebration!!!

My weekend was actually nice!! Friday night we went to some friends house to enjoy some grilled steaks. Saturday, I switched up my routine and went grocery shopping that morning – got that out the way. Saturday afternoon… watched LSU get beat by Bama =( Oh well, that is life. Then just lazed around the house that night. Sunday, Halfing witch and her bff wanted to go to the book store… How can you say no to taking your children to a book store!! Hee hee!! So we did that, but we were not long… Made it home in time to cook some homemade chili (yummy).
OH…. and finished SUTTON’s story… AND OMG… can you say that I absolutely love this freaking book. Jen, amazing, awesome, heart wrenching, omg… just absolutely fabulous!!!!!!!!! I can not wait to do my review on it!
    Coffee time now…

You are a braver woman than me, I will try a lot of different foods, and even enjoy some that few others I know do, but Calamari … no thanks. Yick.

Had breakfast with family on Saturday, then went shopping with hubby for household items we needed for the new house. Sunday was spent cleaning and then being a nurse. Youngest son cut his finger on a piece of glass, not deep so no stitches, but we had trouble getting it to stop bleeding. My little guy was very stoic, but hubby had trouble dealing.

Still have not found a copy of Soul Magic, but started reading Shelly Laurenston’s “The Mane Squeeze”, I love the humor in her books, she always makes me laugh. Family thinks I am crazy cuz I sit there giggling.

I like calamari as long as it is fried.

My weekend was fun. I went to the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show in Washington DC this past weekend. The place as crowded with vendors and people and I didn’t have to buy lunch with all the free samples you were given to try. The next day I attended a BBQ put on my the Neely’s from The Food Network. All in all I had a great weekend.

    I hope you’re having a good day.

Cecile, I think once was enough for me too :-)

I can’t say no to a bookstore either! Nor I could ever refuse to buy my kids a book.

Sorry about your team :-( But the rest of your weekend sounds really nice, and relaxing compared to your other weekends!

Thanks so much on Sutton! Way to make me smile this morning!

Oh Val, your poor little guy! Is the cut staying closed today? I hope your husband is dealing better. It’s always harder on Wizard when my kids get hurt. I was the one that went in for the stitches etc.

I love Shelly Laurenston! She has such a sharp, hilarious voice!

Dru, that’s my kind of weekend! Why did the Neely’s put on the BBQ? It sounds awesome!

Calamari, GAG! I love shellfish too, but no fish. Nope, nope nope.

My weekend was good. My grandma is in town, she’s 94 years old, and we went shopping. It was the longest shopping trip of my entire life. We went to Joanne’s to look at crafty decorative stuff and we literally looked through the ENTIRE store. I don’t shop like this. I know what I want I go to the spot where it is and get it. My feet were killing me by the time it was all said and done, but HEY, it’s my Grandma and I know she isn’t going to be around forever. So I had a wonderful time.

Now it’s back to work. *sigh* Oh well.

Little guy, not so little I guess at 12, is in school today, but as far as I know the cut is staying shut. Just hope he turned in his gym excuse and isn’t trying to play volleyball. He feels like he needs to be tough, hmmm guess that makes him a typical guy :) .

Yeah, hubby can’t handle when his babies get hurt very well. I’m the calm voice of reason and he is the panicky out of control one.

I’m with you and Cecile, can’t resist a bookstore. My daughter is a bookworm like me, the clerks love it when they see us walk in. They know they are going to have a good sales day, lol.

Calamari? Ewwwww, Jen, you’re a braver woman than I am. Cuz, I just have to say, NO WAY IN HELL!!! There are some things I’m just NOT willing to try. Like calamari or oyesters. I just have no interest in trying something other people describe as rubber or snot. Ewwww. And I’ll take mild, fresh water fish over shellfish any day.

Happy Anniversary, BTW. Glad you and the Wizard enjoyed yourselves.

Calamari=stringy rubber. Yup. Pretty much! With enough wine, though, anything tastes good.

Happy Anniversary to you and the Wizard! May you have many more years of happiness together.

Uhm….I’ve heard a rumor that this rather snotty witch by the name of *Silver* is over on my blog today, talking smack about you and Sutton. At this point, I can’t confirm or deny…

I am like you, not much of a fish fan but love shellfish. Calamari I can handle when it is cooked correctly.

We had a good weekend, not long enough since we took a little road trip to take the boys to visit my husband’s grandparents. I read most of the weekend because they live in the country and well there isn’t that much else to do there. :) I finished Rachel Caine’s latest in her YA series, Fade Out (oh yeah went to her book signing here Friday night, she is so sweet). Read Ain’t Too Proud to Bed but the author’s name escapes me and I read Larissa Ione’s Desire Unchained and started Passion Unleashed. Those are some steamy books!!

Now I sit working at home today because my youngest has a nasty cough, he is now on breathing treatments three times a day. OH Joy!

Sorry about the back to work part :-(

    Happy Anniversary, Jen!!!!

Calamari, huh? Well, I happen to like calamari, as long as it’s breaded and deep-fried. And at that point, I’ll be honest, it’s simply a delivery system for the yummy sauce they serve with it. ;-)

    Silver, thanks!

Now about that smackdown…ROTFL!!! You know, I wish I’d remembered about the two Silvers BEFORE the book came out! I’d have had fun with that!

Thanks so much for the review! You’re a much better witch that that OTHER Silver! I’m really glad you have a sense of humor about it, too :-)

Amanda, ohhh, poor youngest! And you! My kids had to do breathing treatments many times, so I know it can rule your day. Hope youngest feels better soon.

Oh yeah Larissa Ione writes hot! I’ve only read one so far, but plan to get her backlist.

Kate, thanks! And that’s exactly how I was thinking of the calamari, a delivery system for the sauce :-) Wizard was very impressed that I actually tried it.

Deep fried squid (which is what is in the picture – minus the tenticles) is one of my favorites. If it was rubbery it was over cooked.

Jem go to the Alley in Balboa, ohmigosh they make a calimari steak that is delicious. Okay, they did, it’s been 17 years since I’ve been there. But whatever you do the deep fried Oysters at Dillman’s is an absolute no no.

Cele, thanks so much for the tip! We’ll have to try it (if it’s still there).

The oysters are safe from me, LOL! I’m a culinary chicken, which is why trying Calamari is such a big deal!

And cele, I bet I’m a worst typist than you–and I read right over my mistakes! But thanks so much on the book!

Ya know, I read this post yesterday and thought I’d come back and comment after I ran my errands. Then I ended up lying on the couch all day (stupid hip). Anyway, I didn’t want you to think I was ignoring you. Yay for trying new food, but I agree – calamari is rubbery and ew.
