Still the Champ

hunk gas stationGSS is still the Champ! By a landslide, no doubt this time!

Even though I still think Motorcycle Slayer won in the previous match.

But then I didn’t get a vote since Linc spiked my appletini and I was passed out.  Still pissed at Linc for that.

So Gas Station Slayer  is the Champion.

Enjoy it while you can GSS…there will be a new match in a couple weeks :-)

So, I finally decided what book to read, Linda Howard’s KISS ME WHILE I SLEEP.  Now see, when I bought this book, I checked the copyright and it said 2009.

Strange thing though, once I read a chapter realized I’d read it before…I checked the copyright again and it changed, magically, to 2004.

Hmph. Some sneaky witch did that, I’m sure of it! It can’t be my eyesight! It can’t!

I read the book again because Linda Howard is that good!

So anyone else accidentally buy a book they’ve already read?

I’ve done that. Like you, I looked at the copyright and even though the title was familiar, the cover art wasn’t so I bought the book.

When I started reading it, it was too, too familiar and then it hit me; I went to my bookshelf and there was the original book published several years ago with the original art work.

I took the book back and wrote the publisher who also gave me a credit towards another of their titles.

So now when a book seems familiar, I read that publisher’s page and look for dates. Another hint is going to Amazon and check out their reviews because old reviews show up.

I too have bought a book I already read a couple of times. My solution … now I keep a list of my favorite authors and what books they are putting out when. I check their websites about once a month to see future release dates, and usually if it is a re-release they state as such on the site. I also do this because I have to many to ever remember on my own. Of course when I walk in the bookstore something new always catches my eye, if I like the book then the author gets added to my list so it is forever growing. It will be scary to see what it looks like 10 years from now, I’ll be working just to support my book habit, lol.

Dru, that’s so annoying! But this was totally my fault. I just misread the copyright date. And since I give my books away, it’s fine.

However, I know publishers repackage books like that and it’s very irritating. It’s one thing when it’s my fault, but I don’t like feeling tricked.

Val, you are so organized! I’m impressed! I sure can’t remember all the books I’ve read, so I should do this except that I’m lazy :-)

My problem is I was impulse buying (books are about all I EVER impulse buy). But a list like that really is a good idea.

I did that once. And it turned out to be horrible. I remember liking the book years and years ago, an author I always loved–but I’ve learned a thing or two since then about writing and boy does it make a difference in how I read something.

This particular book made me so mad I threw it– yes, THREW IT, over my banister and into the foyer 10 feet below. It was an older book, packaged with a new cover and new blurb. I had no idea I had read it before, but that quickly became evident when the writing was very definitely 80′s style. They used the H/H full names in EVERY SENTENCE. I am not kidding. It drove me insane! lol

Ever since then, I am veryy picky about books I buy. I also learned to check the pubbed date.

Kira, about a year ago I reread a book I had loved, and it just wasn’t as good. I didn’t threw it thought, LOL! Sorry you had such a bad experience!

I read a book a few months back where the author kept having the characters say, “As you know…” it drove me nuts.

Cecile, I rarely reread too. This one I skimmed because there were parts I remember being really impressed with. Still impressed the second time :-)

If Linc is losing, you can be sure he has an ulterior motive, LOLOL! And I don’t want to know what it is!

GSS is going down just as soon as I can find someone to distract you all from the GSS HEAT!

Oh yeah I have done that. Nora Roberts a few years ago re-released some of her classic novels with new covers and I thought they were new, so I picked it up as started reading it. After about three chapters I realized this was very familar to me, oops.

I love to re-read books, especially ones that are well written.

Its okay Jen I paid Linc back for the appletni by making his Viper undriveable for about three days… :) I know, “bad witch” “very bad witch”
