Dragging into Monday!

I pretty much worked all weekend, so nothing exciting to report. Oh wait! There is something…

In my usual bumbling fashion (I blame the appletinis) I managed to sign up to judge the RWA (Romance Writers of America) Golden Heart when I meant to sign up to judge the Rita contest.  That means I’m judging unpublished instead of published.

No big deal.  So I got my entries, and started reading. The first two had the usual slew of problems (I say that as someone who made all the usual  mistakes and invented some of my own).

Sunday morning, I got up early and started the third entry. I knew from the first page this writer has “it.”

Voice, story and polish.  So awesome!

What’s even more amazing, is this isn’t even the type of book I generally like. It’s so exciting to see this! I wish I knew who this writer is, but the rules keep it anonymous. Still I am going to be watching…hoping I come across her someday and can tell her just how bloody impressed I am!

I’m really glad now I inadvertently (stupid appletinis! I bet Linc spiked mine again) signed up to judge the wrong contest!

Otherwise, my weekend was just all work and no play.  Sadly, it’s going to be like this for the next two weeks.  I heard a rumor that Linc is taking bets on how many more stupid mistakes I’ll make between now and then. But I’m sure that’s just a rumor…

How was your weekend?

My weekend was quiet. I’ve started my next quilt project.

    Have a good Monday.

I LOVE judging the GH! You never know when you will find that ‘diamond’. A few years ago (Reno, I think), I read an excellent sub. I happened to sit at the table with this gorgeous blond in a beautiful red velvet dress and I asked if she finaled in the Rita or GH–turns out it was the contest entry that I had judged and loved! I had a squee! fangirl moment and was almost as excited as if I was a GH finalist myself. BTW, Gerri Russell soon sold a year later–not that manuscript, but another.

My weekend sounds busy, but I actually had time to just kick back and relaxe for once.

Friday was picking up my sons friend for the weekend, then rushing to watch daughter cheer. Saturday the cat had a vet appointment, trekked to the laundromat, took son for drivers test (he failed on the parallel parking, so nervous about hitting the curb he parked to far away), went to watch daughter cheer again. Sunday took afore mentioned friend home, stopped by my mom’s to help her with computer issues and then spent the rest of the day watching football. That is until Direct TV lost the channel showing the Saints/Vikings game, I ended up missing eerything after the second half started. GRRRRR!!!! And it was an awesome game too!!!

Sounds like you’re as busy as ever, Jen! I’ve judged our un-pubbed chapter contest but never the GH. It’s always wonderful when you find a terrific entry. :)

We went to a motorcycle show Saturday and church Sat. night. The bike show was such a mistake. It makes me want my bike NOW. lol

Sunday was football, laundry and grocery store–oh, and graphics. Wish the Colts would have lost, and wish the Vikings would have won. *sighs* I do like the Saints though, so I’m pulling for them in the Superbowl. Just so long as the Colts LOSE!!!

Margaret, that’s so awesome that you judged Gerri Russel! The GH is much more fun that I expected and actually easier that the RITAs. I’m on the backup list for the RITAs, which i don’t mind, I just hope I don’t get a whole slew of books at the last minute.

Val, ohhh, sorry about your son! Nerves are a killer in the driving tests. He’ll pass next time. I know so many kids who had to retake it.

Your weekend does sound busy! I guess it was Sunday you got to relax until Direct TV went out. They must have been good games, my head is still ringing from Wizard’s yelling :-)

Ashlynn, you want a Harley right?

I’m sensing you don’t like the Colts :-)

It’s my own fault I’m this busy, I lost a few weeks where I couldn’t get into the revisions (and doing stupid things like burning my fingers).

Yup. A Harley sportster, because I’m so short, I can’t ride anything else. LOL Hey have you checked your mail??

Late again. Sorry. Sounds like you’re having fun judging, even though you didn’t mean to take that category. I’m glad you found a diamond.

Same ol’ same ol’ here. Football, writing, crocheting. Watched some cop shows and some other junk. We’ve been hitting the diet thing pretty hard here, but last night I plummeted off the wagon by making a pan full of Rocky Road Bars. So good, but after I figured out the calorie count, I’m hating myself. Better luck next week, I guess.

Ashlynn, what fun it’ll be when you finally get the motorcycle! (I did finally answer the email!)

B.E. Glad you made it! So funny about the diet thing–I just caved and made cookies today and ATE A LOT. We all deserve it once in a while.
