Weekend Round Up

The highlight of my weekend was Saturday when I went to my local RWA chapter meeting, and had a good time seeing old friends!

The low point? Going into a closing Borders. It was a ghost town, they were even selling the bookcases. Only a few shelves had any books left, and they were clearly the very last of the stock. The employees all wore pinched, defeated expressions.  It was so utterly sad.

The emotional point were the 911 shows Wizard and I watched on the History channel.  We made a point of turning it off and doing other things a few times–it’s just too emotionally wrenching to see it over and over.

And lastly, I heard from my agent on Friday. I’ll be revising the big proposal substantially. Her insights were dead on,  so I’m going to work hard to get it right.

How was your weekend?

Glad you had such a nice time Saturday. It’s fun to get together like that.
My weekend was non-eventful. Yesterday I watched a little of the NYC stuff and was impressed with the waterfalls. It was the first time I saw them up close and they’re really nice. Amazing how they turned the footprints of the buildings into such a lovely memorial.

Sounds like you had a nice Saturday – even if your Borders is a ghost town. My store closed during the big purge before the actual bankruptcy, so it’s not as poignant for me now. Still depressing to think about, though.

I tried to avoid all things 911 related yesterday. It’s still too painful – even after ten years. Then during a football game, Budweiser caught me. If you haven’t seen their new commercial, it shows the Clydesdales pulling the wagon across the country and finally ending up at that park that faces the WTC site – where the horses all got down on one knee. When Hubs came into the room, I was bawling like a baby. Damn Budweiser. I’m weepy just thinking about it.

On a happier note, I finally got started tackling the re-re-re-write of my urban fantasy – using the notes my CP sent. It’s gonna kick some serious butt when it’s finished.

Viki, glad you had a relaxing weekend. I saw a bit of the waterfalls, but I’d like to go to NY and see them in real life. I was there less than a year after 9/11.

B.E., I’ve avoided the stores that were closing, but I was with friends that wanted to go in. It really was depressing.

No, I didn’t see that commercial! It’d have done me in too. We didn’t watch the memorial stuff, we were watching actual footage and documentaries.

You sound like you know exactly what you want to do on your Urban Fantasy! That’s a great feeling!
