Okay I’ll admit it.
After I said I wouldn’t, I bought the second book in the 50 shades of Gray Series, SHADES OF DECEPTION. I can’t figure out the allure either. In this book, they have sex all the time, and I skim those scenes, yet I keep reading. I don’t even know why.
Baffling.
Seriously.
There are so many other books I could be reading!
Oh well, that’s my confession for the day.
Otherwise, Monday was exhausting. BLB’s new surgeon reiterated that his injury is “a bad one.” He’s ordering an MRI to see what’s going on in there, particularly behind the knee, before he decides what to do next. In the meantime he needs to continue with physical therapy–something BLB is determined to do anyway so we’re all on the same page. Our goal is to get him mobile enough to return to school in the fall.
It still astonishes me how fast life changes in a single heartbeat like that. Just a freak accident.
But I did get the last pass of proofreading done on FORBIDDEN MAGIC and sent it off to the formatter. Carla and I are putting out a minor fire on our little secret project, but that will hopefully be resolved today. I’m really excited to see so many things happening.

You’re not kidding that that little things and strange accidents can really change up our lives. I pray that when the MRI is done and the results come in that there won’t be much to clean up behind the knee. Young people are so strong. BLB is so smart to work hard on physical therapy. I bet he misses school like crazy and can’t wait to be able to attend in fall.

Sorry there wasn’t better news at the doc’s office. I was pulling for a little magic healing on that leg. I’ll keep my fingers crossed he’ll be well enough to get back to school this fall. Life does change in a heartbeat – let’s hope this time it changes for the good. =o)
Confession… Yesterday in the genealogy project (my once a year thing), I traced my roots back to the Salem Witch Trials. Unfortunately, my 8th great grandfather was a juror in that mess. He did join with other former jurors and publish an apology afterwards, but I think that might’ve been too little too late. Good thing we aren’t responsible for the evils our ancestors have done – cuz I’d seriously go back in time and slap him silly. Seriously, dude, what were you thinking?

Is it only Tuesday? Confessions–I haven’t read in over a week and I haven’t written in longer than that.
I am a bad witch. Chit chat…uhm…I’ve got two sekrit projects going and I’m working up the spells to get them finished because I need all the help I can get!
BLB is a very strong young man and he has a terrific set of parents, brothers, and extended family to help him over the hurdles! He’s going to get through this. And so will the rest of you!

The bones you uncover when you search your family’s past can be really starteling. I would like to go back and see my grandmother’s life- not interacting or changing things but kind or like watching a movie. She lived through Hitler’s Germany. I have recorded on tape some of what she went through. What she would tell me about. Reading historical accounts and things have filled in some gaps. She told me things that she wouldn’t couldn’t say to my mom. I think she did because she knew I would not judge her for her choices. Where as my mom had been directly affected by them was to close to understand or forgive her mother. Time perspective gives you a better lens through which to view the past. I really want the crystal ball to see the future to be able to make better choices now.
Ok way to heavy for chit chat. I will put away my philosphers stone now.

Viki, thanks on BLB. He’s not exactly excited to attend school this fall, but he wants to get it done. He’s at the junior level of college.
It’s amazing how quickly life can change. I just need to shake this off–it is what it is, and BLB will handle it. As him mom, I just want to fix it for him. This injury complicates his career goal and that’s killing me, but he seems to be handling it.
The “fire” was handled expertly by Carla and her person, so it should all be fine.

Your find on your 8th great grandfather is exciting! I have always thought the Salem Witch Trials were horribly fascinating. Sorry he was on a jury–but still, it’s so interesting to find a connection there. Witch hunts in general are interesting–a complete and total fear of women that spreads like a plague. And it proves how frighteningly easy it can be to brainwash a crowd…

Bailey is awesome as always. It’s amazing how dogs accept you as you are, no questions asked. He somehow grasps BLB’s limitations and adjusts to it with no work on our part.

Wow, Kat, that is interesting! I know my mom had a special and completely different relationship with my sons that she did with me. If she had lived, I could see her telling them things she wouldn’t have talked as easily to me about. Your grandmother’s life must have been a challenge and very different from what we live now.

Kat, I’m really glad that your grandmother talked to you and that you have the tapes. PLEASE transcribe them and keep both a printed copy and a digital copy. The audio/video tape will degrade over time. Oral histories like that are priceless primary resources for historians and for family histories alike.
B.E., I have to think it’s pretty cool that your +great was on the jury. Wouldn’t it be cool to find a diary or something to see what his thought processes were? To me, the “bad” (using that term VERY loosely) ancestors make things far more interesting–says the woman who traces back to an English highwayman.

My hat is off to BLB, and of course his family. It’s such a hard thing to remain upbeat in these kind of circumstances. Both of my children have long term medical issues and my oldest who has the least concerning condition whined for 2 1/2 years about having to take medicine daily and have her blood taken periodically. Of course she was only 10 when it developed, but I really appreciate optimism!!! I also know how hard it is to sit back and remain optimistic when it’s your child going through it.
B.E., I’m so with Silver on the “bad” ancestors. Unfortunately, I seem to have had primarily upstanding citizens. I keep hoping to find a reprobate though. I do my genealogy over the summer, I can’t find time else wise. My confession… Last summer I found that one of my ancestors was actually on the Mayflower! So, I guess it makes me a bit stuck up that I was thrilled! I lorded it over RenMan who comes from a prominent, wealthy family in the east (although his branch no longer has the money as his great,great grandfather gave it all away). Of course, my ancestor came over as a servant bless his plebeian heart. And as a Pilgrim he must have been a sanctimonious prig. But that’s ok, because he was at the 1st Thanksgiving! I finally have that intimate connection with history that I’ve always yearned for. well, while I’m admitting my snobbery, I did know that another branch of my family is descended from a knight who came to England with William the Conqueror and was given an estate in Devon. That has been a big source of pride to me as well. To balance things out, the other side is made up totally of absolute rednecks. The Horror!
Silver, I am seriously jealous of the highwayman. I really want one! I had a law professor whose grandfather was a horse thief in the Ozarks. I was jealous of that too.

Julie, thanks on BLB. I’m sorry your daughter had such a hard time with her condition, but 10 is awfully young to deal with these things. Sheesh, there’s never really a good age…

I am pretty sure I have plenty of reprobates in my family tree, and I’m told, a Scots duke. I have notes on it, just haven’t had the drive to read the tiny-printed diaries yet.
