Weekend and Reading

What a weekend. First I went to my RWA Meeting, and had a great time. While I was there, I picked the brain of a friend who used to be a legal secretary, getting all the info I needed for my book I’m working on. I don’t need it to be a procedural, I just need to to be plausible :-) That seemed to totally free up my writing.

Then I came home to find Wizard had cleaned all the windows and screens, inside and out, on our house.  We have a LOT of windows on a two story house.  A lot–just believe me on this. It’s a massive job, one I would prefer we do together.

Wizard does”t agree. He usually waits until I’m off somewhere and does it alone so I don’t hurt my hands. He’s devious like that.

But he still wasn’t happy. Because then he realized how (embarrassingly) dirty the blinds are.  So yesterday, he spent about three hours cleaning the worst of the blinds; slat by slat.  He absolutely refused to let me help.

I’m thrilled he did this, and the house feels so much cleaner. I just wish he’d let me help more! But I get to appreciate his hard work every single day :-)

Also, Carla (my assistant) finished the banner for the Jennifer Apodaca FB page I put her through a fair amount of torture changes on this, wanting to get it just right. You can see the finished banner here if you like. I’m really happy with it! I’ll have to start adding content soon.

And finally, I’m reading FURY by Laurann Dohner and love it. It’s a Samhain (E-Publisher) book. There are print copies but they are very expensive.  This is the first book in a series of New Species and totally cool. I’m really enjoying it when I can steal a few moments to read.

How was your weekend? What are you reading?

Wow – you had a big weekend. I’m glad you had a productive time at your RWA meeting. What a windfall being able to pick your friends brain :).

What a good hubby Wizard is. I wish someone would clean my windows. We have a lot too. My house is three stories and one side is almost all glass. We don’t have any blinds or window treatments except in the bedrooms. We’re pretty much secluded so we don’t really need them.

Carla did a great job. I love the banner.

I spent Sat. waiting on an electrician who never called :(. My power went out in the basement Fri and that’s where the cable booster is as well as all my workout stuff. Needless to say I have very long extension cords running up stairs :).

I’m about finished with YA BITTERBLUE. It’s taken a while to read. I keep getting pulled away. Next up is LETHAL RIDER by Larissa Ione. Love her books.

    Have a great day :)!

    Gorgeous FB page, Jen. =o)

Wizard can come clean my windows and blinds any time he wants. I’ll even bake him cookies. It’s kinda sweet when they do stuff they think might be too taxing for us. That’s why I do the heavy stuff when my husband’s not home (or not looking). So he won’t worry and wind up doing it for me. ;o)

That fire everyone’s hearing about in CO isn’t anywhere near me – although the smoke’s starting to show up giving us ‘air quality issues’ and pretty sunrises. Other than watching the news on that, I spent the weekend reading and writing. Right now, I’m reading The Saint by Monica McCarty in hardcopy and Backlash by Karyn Good in ebook. Monica is her usual awesomeness, and Karyn – who’s new to me – has written a damn fine romantic suspense.

Silver’s books finally came so I have been burried in them when I could get a few minutes. My son has started doing the laundry since he is home for the summer this is great for a 13 year old boy but now I have no excuse to hide in the laundry room and read.

DC was great and crowed and tense and hot. None of my girls were among the dehydrated ones. How in the world any leader/mom could not be on their girls about drinking water is beyond me. Especally when they had free water stations everywhere.

BE glad to hear your not in the fire range. I’ll do my best to send some rain out that way after we are done with it here in WV.

My husband has been in a lot of pain again form the complications of his diabeties. He keeps saying he is tired of it and wants to just get better. He is having issues understanding the point that what he is experiencing is the best it is going to get for him from now on. I don’t want him to give up but I need him to reach acceptance. If he would just learn his limits and stay with in them then he would be able to manage the pain and the rest of it. Instead he trys to much and doesn’t take his meds regularly. The kids and I are looking forward to our weekend camping. All of us need some space.

I liked the FB page. :D Chapter meetings are always great for new inspiration. Mine is this coming Saturday. There was a weekend? I was going to take a day off, read, catch up on the DVR’d shows and relax. Uhm….no. Best laid plans and all that. I didn’t even get much writing done. I’m not sure what I did but it sure seemed like I was busy all weekend.

Wizard is a jewel! Lawyer Guy used to do things like that but can’t anymore. I’ll still keep him, though. :) Have a great week, witches!

Viki, you probably have more windows than I do. I love the open feeling, but cleaning is a pain. I know it sounds weird that I complain, but wizard ends up being sore too. I can help but he’s always been like this.

Did you find another electrician? The not calling makes me utterly furious. And I’m so sorry about your power issues in the basement. I hope it all gets fixed today!

Oh I read LETHAL RIDER and loved it! The second book in that series didn’t thrill me, but I loved that one.

Thanks on the banner! Carla is a treasure.

B.E., Wizard does like cookies :-) But I think he’s worn out.

That’s sweet of you to do the heavy stuff for you hubby. I’m sure he appreciates it. I know Wizard does when I do stuff for him.

I’m so glad that fire isn’t close to you, and sorry about the air quality. I’m really hoping they can get that fired contained and out soon. CO and NM are getting hit hard. I’m just waiting for our turn.

Kat, so happy you got Silver’s books! I am wondering why you have to hide to read? Probably because you’re a better mom than me, LOL!

Honestly, I think a lot of people don’t realize how fast we can become dehydrated. I’m not surprised it didn’t happen to any of your girls though. And that’s wonderful the trip went so well!

So sorry with your husband. Learning our limitations is a tough lesson. And accepting that our bodies are “betraying” us is rarely easy. You know all this, but knowing it and living it are worlds apart. I’m glad that you and the kids have the camping trip to look forward to. A break will help everyone. I’m sending positive thoughts that your husband can work out a way to live the best life possible.

Silver, I’m planning to read your second novella soon! I have a list of things I want to read for one reason or another.

    Thanks for liking the page!

Isn’t that frustrating with our weekends? Mine turned out good (although I wanted to work more) but I’ve had many just like you described. I hope your week is more productive!

Lawyer Guy sound a lot like my Wizard :-)

Jenn – The electrician just left. I was right about it being a blown GFI so hubs owes me another million dollars ;). When will he learn that I never bet unless it’s a sure thing :). He now owes me 4 million.
I know what you mean about the guys over doing it and aching too. But sometimes I think John does it so I will give him a rub down – sneaky.

Kat – I am so sorry about your husband. It’s frustrating when you still have it in your mind what you can do and yet you can’t. I keep your family in my prayers. I’ll add that he comes to terms and accepts the limits now on him.

Oh, Hubs can do all the heavy stuff, but he works so hard during the day, that I’d rather just do it myself and not have him worry about it. (Like when I rearranged the living room.)

Latest update on the High Park Fire – almost 37K acres and 0% containment. At this point, they’re just trying to keep people’s houses from burning and get the fire aimed toward uninhabited areas. The wind isn’t helping them at all.
