Weekend Roundup

Happy Monday!

So the heat has finally hit us in Southern California.  I managed to get myself slightly burned on Saturday hanging out at the pool. Which meant I had to stay inside on Sunday while Wizard was out there swimming. So. Not. Fair!

It was a really good weekend. While I was waiting for my beta reader to read the contemporary I worked on CAGE MAGIC. Damn, I love that book! I’m have more than a 100 pages (rough) and need much more,  but hopefully I’m going to be able to carve some time out to work on it around my contracted books.

Yesterday my awesome beta reader let me know she finished the book and thinks it’s working.  She actually said really nice things, and found a few spots for me to work on. I am so thrilled! I wrote Adam and Megan’s story fast, but I wrote the book *I* wanted to write, and that seems to work.  While the romance is front and center, I get to have other things going on too, some mystery, intrigue, betrayals and secrets. How could I not love that? I’ll finish that this week and send it to my lovely editor.

I’m trying to get back onto my workout schedule as well. I took a couple weeks off for BLB’s surgery, and to hit my deadlines, but now I must recommit.

Wizard and I had a great weekend together.  BLB was spending the weekend at his house, so we enjoyed the time.

But Wizard misses Bailey! He totally does. So while cooking breakfast together one morning, I was dancing around the kitchen  singing, “You liikkkeeee Bailey! Wizard likes Bailey!” until Wizard threatened to videotape me singing.

I stopped.  I can’t sing. I can’t dance. And I really don’t want a record of me trying!

But I might have hummed it a bit more.

So how was your weekend?

LOL I can picture you singing in the kitchen and the abrupt stop when threatened with video ;). I can’t sing either nuts it’s fun to pretend I can.

Fantastic news on the books. I’m getting excited too.

Isn’t it nice to have time alone with the hubs? I haven’t had that in quite a long time. I’m about ready to kick the boys out. One lives here but I’d really like some time w/o them around – bad mom ;).

I fell bad that you got burned. I hope you’re coating yourself in aloe.

I have awful allergies and rarely go outside but even if I didn’t have them you couldn’t have paid me to go out the past week. It’s been so HOT and humid here. It’s not supposed to be like this. I need my cold weather :).

Most of the area has it’s electric back on. But now we all jump when there is a crash of thunder and hold our breath that the lights stay on.

Congrats on the writing. “To thy own self be true.” Holds to writing and every thing else we do.

I am plotting and planning and saving. There is a Reader’s Appreciation weekend going on in Pittsburg the end of Sept. It is being hosted by Lora Leigh and 20 other authors. I am so working my @$$ off to be able to go.

Viki- Pittsburg is not to far from your neck of the woods. Check out Lora Leigh’s site for information.

Heh. Wizard’s a closet pup-lover. Tell him to come out. Say it loud and say it proud: I Luv Dogs! (Or at least Bailey.) He’ll feel much better once he does. ;o) Hey, my husband said he didn’t like cats before we got married. Now I think Kira likes him better than she does me, and Max is his buddy.

Sorry about the sunburn, but way to go on the writing. You rock. And you’ll be rocking Cage Magic before you know it.

Just another weekend here in paradise. :snort: I wrote lots, I read lots, I watched sports. I finally got around to that book you recommended a while back: The Sentinel Mage by Emily Gee. It was really good. I can’t wait to see what she does next – especially since it felt like the book just stopped with no real wrap up.

Congrats on the book! Sorry about the burn. That’s why I try to stay out of the sun.

It was beyond hot this weekend, with temps hitting triple digits 8-O It’s back in the 80s this week. Soooooo much better! Saturday, I was supposed to go to dinner w/ a friend, but she cancelled on me. I went to dinner w/ the parents instead. We had to take some detours, as some roads were still closed from storm damage last Thursday. Yesterday, I went to see Magic Mike w/ some friends. I only went to see the hot men. Good thing as there wasn’t much of a plot.

Are you sure Wiz didn’t tape you secretly? *goes to check YouTube* Whew! Looks like you’re safe. For now. I agree that Wiz should come out of the closet before he ends up in the doghouse. And stay out of the sun unless you have sunblock on!

Weather here was HOT! But it’s July. In Oklahoma. It’s supposed to hot. *blerg*

Kat, I’ve heard from author friends and fans/friends that Lora’s Readers Appreciation weekends are made of awesome. Well worth going to!

    Have a great week, witches!

Viki, ugh on humidity! So sorry! We’re supposed to get that this week too I think. The pool makes going outside bearable as far as the heat, but nothing is worth miserable allergies.

The burn was minor and my own fault. Mostly gone today.

You’re not a bad mom! I feel that way too sometimes, and I love my boys beyond anything else in the world except Wizard. But we’ve earned the freedom! Of course, BLB’s injury changed our priorities for awhile, but not forever :-)

This weekend really seemed to energize me and it’s been a long time since I could say that. You need that too! You’ve really gone through a lot this year.

Kat, that’s great news that your electricity is back on! Now it has to stay on, you’ve endured enough.

Like Silver, I’ve heard great things about LL’s event. I hope you can go! Then we’ll want to hear all about it.

It’s so true that we need to harness our own voice/authenticity in writing. Unfortunately, this business can really mess with that occasionally.

B.E., Ha, you have Wizard’s number, LOL! He likes animals in a general sense, he just doesn’t want to be tied down to them. But Bailey has really gotten to him :-)

That book was different wasn’t it? I found myself liking it and being frustrated at the same time. I wanted a tighter story arc, but it was so interesting at the same time. I’m glad you liked it.

Dawn, you’re smarter than me to stay out of the sun!

Sorry your friend had to cancel, I’m sure you were disappointed. But at least your parents played backup :-)

Magic Mike didn’t catch my interest so I haven’t seen it. From what you’re saying, I probably wont.

Silver, whew, I’m relieved! He’d have to have done it on my phone. He rarely touches my phone, so I figured he wouldn’t know how. But I wouldn’t bet on it, he’s too darned sneaky.

No kidding on the sunblock. I had it on my face, and intended to put in on the rest of me after 10 minutes. Instead, I was laying on raft playing the part of a brain dead twit, obviously.

Since it’s so hot, there’s nothing for you to do but write, right?

Kat – So happy to hear you have power. I hope insurance is covering the cost of all your lost food items and whatever expenses you had trying to survive the heat. They covered our losses twice with power outages that lasted over 3 days.
I will check out Lora’s site for info. It sounds like fun. Pitt is about 1 1/2 hrs from here, doable ;).

Jenn – I feel for you if you guys do get that awful heat. Thank heaven you have the pool.
The middle one just walked in here and says to me that he isn’t leaving to go look for a new apartment like planned and he would really like to stay for dinner AGAIN if it didn’t put me out. Gotta love him ;). I told him I just had to go grab another pc of fish and smiled.
I forgot to ask, is Wizard going to break down and let you get a dog? Bet Bailey will be visiting more often no matter what.

Sounds like you had a good weekend. How lucky for you that the threat of footage was provided. RenMan would have snuck the camera in and then afterwards let me know he’d filmed it thereby starting a close approximation to WWII and the Cold War. Sorry about the sunburn, but I’m jealous of the pool. It’s only in the 90’s here, but it sure would be welcome.

I spent the weekend either chauffeuring Drill Sgt Girl to her ice skating practices/lessons or sewing up her costumes for her upcoming competition. Unfortunately, I’m a mediocre seamstress at best, but I can’t seem to say no.

Kat, I’m glad your electricity is back on. I hope you get to the Reader Appreciation weekend. It sounds like a blast.

Viki, I had to laugh at your son wanting to stay for dinner again :-)

It’s not that Wizard won’t let me get a dog, it’s that we don’t know if we want to really commit all the time and responsibility. Plus Bailey won’t like sharing us–he thinks this house is his other home now. So…I’m undecided, LOL!

Julie, your man is scary, LOL!! Wizard is capable of doing that, but he wouldn’t upload it anywhere. He’s hugely private which usually works in my favor :-)

You’re wonderful to do all that sewing! Your daughter ice skates competitively? That’s so awesome!
