Beware of Moody Witch

Another Friday…I don’t know where time has gone.  I’m in a strange mood.

Partly because BLB moved back to his house.  I am very happy for him. He started the new job at work and is very positive. He also started back to college with a full load. He is adapting and changing to his new reality with incredible fortitude and grace.

Wizard happened to be walking across the street the other day, and he said he looked down at the little blue dot in the road–it’s a small plastic square that marks where the fire hydrant is.

So little.

Been there since we bought this house about 15 years ago.

Who knew that one Christmas Eve, on a day that was picture perfect right up until that moment, BLB would hit that dot on a motorized scooter and everything would change.

A freak accident.

One that most likely cost BLB his dream job that he has been working toward since  he was nineteen years old.  I can’t share the actual job, but it’s very hard to achieve. He found out he was one of the select few six weeks after he broke his leg.

Who knows, it could still happen, but doubtful. However they do want him if it’s at all possible, which is a good thing for him to know.

I admire the hell out of him.  And now, I’m looking back at that long road, and realizing that in the midst of all that hardship and pain, I got an incredible gift. I’ve always been pretty close with my kids. We’re a tight family.

But while BLB recovered, we grew closer. We had a lot of fun and laughs.  We stayed up late together because he couldn’t sleep. Or when we went out with Biker Witch, who made BLB feel both special and normal, even while still in the wheelchair.  The truth is that Wizard and I had moments with our son we’d never have had otherwise.  Sometimes his humor got us through the moment.

We saw exactly how amazing our other two sons were when called upon.  I had no idea what they were capable of until their brother was hurt. I learned there was an unbreakable bond there, one that assures me if Wizard and I are gone, they will be okay. And they have been there for Wizard and I whenever it got to be too much for us.

But now it’s time to let go. This is as vital as anything else we did to help BLB’s recovery.  He’s fine. He can do this. He will only need us for little things now as he learns to fly on his own again. He  will have setbacks and bad days, and we’ll be there. But he’s in charge of his own life. As it should be.

It just leaves me with a small lump in my throat. And tremendous pride and love in my heart.

Letting go. The hardest, and best, thing we ever do.

On the upside, though, this let’s me turn my full attention to Linc. He wanted my attention, now he has it. Bwahahaha!! CAGE MAGIC is gong to get written one way or another and Linc had better just suck it up and deal with the challenge!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing in such a personal way. I have to admit you got my eyes watering. I keep BLB in my prayers still. You have a wonderful strong family.
When we look back at things it’s funny how much we learn while going through the tough times.
Have a great weekend and Happy Labor Day! Yes, take the day off ;).

Very touching thoughts for a Friday morning. Thank you and good luck in the continuing adventure that is life.

Linc better deal with it. There are many readers waiting very patiently (or not so patiently) so he can suck it up.

    Happy Weekend!!

Sounds like you did an awesome job raising your boys, Mama Lyon. You have every reason to be proud of them and of yourself. It’s not every parent who can ride through a storm like that with the grace you showed. And I know it’s hard to see a silver lining in something like this, but adversity really does create stronger people. He was steel before – now he’s been hammered and tempered like one of those rare Japanese swords. And so have you. :hugs:

Have an awesome holiday weekend. =o)

The song out there titled “Makes me stronger” with the line that is the old quote about “whatever does not kill us makes you stronger” is a song that I have added recently to my personal antheme collection. I have taken all the songs that tend to cry out that is my life and put them on a disc to play when I really need the shout out.

Sounds like you and BLB could make a disc together of these type of songs to share.

I have started one with my daughter- her first song on the disc is Cindy Lauper’s “Girls just wanta have fun.”

I know you all are signing it in your head right now… So go have some girl/faimly fun this weekend witches. :-D

Oh, Jen. You left me a blubbering heap this morning. Letting go is so hard, especially when our children have been hurt sort horribly. I look at The Only now and marvel at the competent, amazing young woman she’s become and realize that, like B.E. said of BLB, she’s walked through the fire and emerged forged steel. Kat, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is Only’s ringtone on my phone. It makes me smile when I hear it. BLB is strong but he has his wonderful parents and brothers as examples. Though I bet that’s a mirror that reflects back from him, too!

Viki, Labrat, B.E., and Jen, Kat’s right. We girls need to go have some fun this weekend! Happy Friday, witches! *dances off sing GJWHF at the top of her lungs*

*sniffs* You did an excellent job with your boys. Thank you for sharing such heartfelt thoughts.

I’m a huge believer in ‘trials in life are there to make you grow and make you stronger’. There is no question that we all deal with our bumps in the road, it’s all in how we deal with them. We can either give up and let it run us over, or we can get up and smile through adversity.

And I love that song “makes me stronger”, Kat. It has been my anthem for a while, too.

Viki, thank you. I promise next week I’ll be more myself :-) But I have been very lucky with Wizard and our kids. I hope I never take them for granted.

I’ll take Labor Day off only if Wizard doesn’t have to work.

Hope you have a great holiday!

Labrat11, thanks. I swear I won’t keep dumping all this on you guys!

Linc will deal with it, I’ll make him. It’s just a huge wrestling job, this book is shifting dynamics in the Wing Slayer Hunter world. That’s super cool and scary for me, but I’m mostly hoping readers will like it.

B.E., thank you. Very lovely words that have great meaning to me. I’ve been down these roads before with people I loved, and with myself, but it’s something else entirely when it’s our child.

I know Wizard and I raised these kids, but who they are now I credit to each of them. They make the choices everyday that define them.

Hope you have a great weekend too!

Kat, that song is playing in my head now! LOL! You made me laugh this morning, thank you! And what a great song to share with your daughter!

I do the same thing–I have playlists on my iPod and I work out to them. It’s on the treadmill or elliptical that I tend to process my emotions, the one place where I don’t let anyone else in. I blast my music and just let go. We all have to find that thing for us.

I’m going to look up MAKE ME STRONGER and see if I have it yet, thanks!

Silver, I know you went through so much with Only’s accident and look at her now! It’s amazing how resilient we can be.

I’m join the dancing and singing!

Hope you’re making progress with your stubborn hero :-)

Ashlynn, you’re an amazing example of strength and perseverance! But you’re so right, we all have things we have to deal with.

Now I think we all deserve a bump-free stretch of time to enjoy life for ahwile. And to sing GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN

“They make the choices everyday that define them.” – That comes from having awesome parental units raising them right and then letting them go be whoever they are.

Just admit it, Jen. You rock. ;o)

B.E., thank you. I’m really humbled and totally undeserving :-)

The three boys can probably explain in embarrassing detail the ways Wizard and I screwed up.
