Weekend Roundup

Good weekend, but almost no writing because someone had a serious case to Car Fever. Now to be fair, we’ve been planning to buy a car for about six or eight months.  Our car is getting up their in miles and it’s time. So someone finally got serious.

And in case you’re wondering, it wasn’t me. I’m a whiner, as in, “Do I have to deal with car salesmen? Please, I’ll be bake you anything you want if you just don’t make me go be nice to salesmen.”

Wizard acted annoyingly rational and reasonable. “”So you want to deal with car repairs instead?”

“Fine.”  So Saturday I went to lunch with Biker Witch then had to cut that short so Wizard and I could drive miles and miles to a dealership and engage in Bait and Switch.  It was ridiculous and we walked out. We don’t engage with cheaters, just saying.

The next day, we find a car for the price we want, deal with professionals whom I actually liked (no whining!) and we got the car.  Wizard’s Car Fever is now temporarily  in remission.

So I thought after dinner I’d have a few hours to work. But then while doing dishes the sink clogs. I’m mutter. “Crap that’s not good.”

Wizard walks in from outside because he has bionic hearing when I screw up. “What’s not good?”

“Sink’s clogged.” And I know why so I fess up.  “I put potato peels down there.” He’s told me not to and I always scoop them in the trash instead, but we were talking about the car and the good experience we had buying it,  and I wasn’t paying attention.

His reaction? “Did you?” Seriously that was his reaction. Then he takes the trap apart, cleans it all out (POTATO PEELS PACKED IN THERE!) and puts it all back together.

So I know I screwed up and said,  “I’m sorry I know better.”  (I have this compulsive need to confess, it’s one reason I decided against a career in crime).

He shrugs as he carries the towels to the washer and says, “Easy fix, don’t worry about it.”

The funny thing? When he screws up, he’s furious at himself.  But when I screw up? He laughs and says no big deal.  Although once he thinks it’s safe, he’ll tease me mercilessly. But he never gets mad.

So that was our weekend.  How was yours?

How exciting to get a new car. I love that new car smell. John refuses to deal with the salesmen so I have to buy all of our vehicles. I can’t stand it either because I feel that they are all crooks but over the years I’ve learned to handle it. Walking out is often the best thing.

When do you get the car? Sometimes they can have them ready so quick and other times you have to come back.

I’m glad you took the time to hang with Biker Witch even if it was cut short. I have a feeling that spending time with her has opened you up and the words are going to flow this week :).

Wow is Wizard a good guy or what ;)! Like you I would have felt awful and beat myself up for causing him extra work. I wonder why it is that they are so tolerant of us – I guess I won’t question and just be happy they are.

Nothing big this weekend. I’m glad too ;).

    Have a great week!

What kind of car did you get? I hate going to buy a new (to me) car. (Never bought an actually new car.) I’m so glad you guys finally found a reasonable salesman. Ugh on the potato peel thing. Good thing Wizard is a reasonable man himself – even if he does get after himself too hard. (Isn’t that something we all do, though?) Don’t feel bad. Once the Kid poured an entire pan worth of bacon grease down the sink and just left it. Of course, it solidified. Weee.

I was cranking on the words this weekend. Got another 6K+ out on the rewrite. Other than that? Groceries. So the two things I said I was going to do this weekend got done. And not much else. LOL

Projects mostly done this weekend. Yea BE on the writing. I was so into cleaning and doing stuff I didn’t even read this weekend. I am sure it is a phase that will pass. I still have some things to work on this week while the kids are still gone.

New car so cool. I am so with you on the bait and switch adds and suff. Sometimes I wonder though if I didn’t fall for a bait and switch scheme when I got my husband. You know when they look all shiny and new then you get them home and you have to clean up after them and find out how much money it takes for their up keep. I am pretty sure that it is the same kind of thing.

Awesome on the new car! I spent the weekend getting stuff together for Nationals. We leave Saturday. Gonna take two days to drive to Atlanta. The kids are housesitting. :)

And speaking of, I remember the time the dealership held my car hostage while they tried to sell us a new one. After THREE FREAKING HOURS with a fussy toddler (Only was 2 or 3 at the time), I handed my keys to her and pointed toward the showroom floor. Yeah. We had my car parked back in front in about a minute and a half. And I’m NOT kidding. It was literally almost three hours and repeated requests to have our car returned. And I had Lawyer Guy AND his brother (The Negotiator) there as back up.

Viki (and everyone!) sorry I’m late today! I worked :-)

We have the car, it’s a Ford Edge. Just a base model, but we’re happy with it. But I hear you on car salesmen. We’ve had a variety of experiences, but this was was good.

It was good to see Biker Witch but I forgot about half the things I wanted to tell her. We’ll get together again soon.

Hope your weekend was good, sometimes nothing big is good thing.

B.E., you’re doing great!! Keep going! I’m suffering awe and envy of you right now (though I made progress today).

That grease–ugh! That would be a mess to clean out. But kids don’t know any better, I did. You’re right though, we’re harder on ourselves.

The car is a Ford Edge, a base model. It’s nice for what we want. We usually buy new but keep our cars a long time.

Kat, you’ve been a major spring/summer cleaning it seems! I used to be like that, but I’m over it now :-) But it’s a great feeling to get it done.

That bait and switch is so annoying, isn’t it? I feel bad for the people they get on the lot then pressure into cars/payments they really can’t afford. But enough of that.

LOL on husband’s employing Bait and Switch! Too funny!

Silver, I wish I was going and could see you again at Nationals!

We had that experience with holding out car hostage too. I love your solution! Wish I’d thought of it. I had two kids at the time and my middle had just had a pretty bad asthma attack that day so I was not in the mood. I told them I’d better see the keys in my hand or I was reporting a stolen vehicle. The keys materialized instantly. But yours was much better! Damn, really wish I’d thought of it!

But buying this car was easy. I have no complaints.

Not much happened around here – my anniversary was Saturday so we took the kids to see Despicable Me 2. As my hubby says, ‘it’s a celebration of the start of our family’ so we like to include them :D

Hey Ban – Happy Anniversary! We always took the entire family out on our anniversary too. Then as they got older they ditched us ;).
