I blame Wizard for working less. He’s a BAD influence. I’m really learning how to do down time now because he’s so relaxed since he’s retired. But yesterday Wizard was going racing, so I thought YES! I can work for a couple hours, go meet Biker Witch for coffee, then come home and work more. It was a great plan. I got right up to 8;15 a.m. with that plan. I was writing, excited that I found a better way to tackle a scene that needed rewriting…
—Then BLB (youngest son) shows up with his new Jeep. He came by just to see what we’re doing. And if his dad was around, they were going to wash and wax the Jeep together, but wizard was gone. BLB was actually happy that his dad was out keeping busy and having fun.
–So instead BLB and I talked for a while.
–Then I felt compelled to make him breakfast. He never asked, but I can’t help myself. It’s the mom gene, I guess.
–Then he had to show me how to pull back the soft top on his Jeep (because it’s soooo cool like that, LOL)
–Then we had to watch Flip or Flop and discuss the tax ramifications of flipping homes. I know, you think I’m kidding because no one can be that boring. Nope. We really had that conversation.
–Then we bored ourselves and started talking about dogs.
–After that BLB went with me to meet Biker Witch for coffee and we all ended up talking for hours. Mostly about BLB’s new Jeep and dogs (A side note: Biker Witch was really there for BLB through his leg ordeal, so she was genuinely thrilled to see how far he’s come since then. She always believed in him. People like that in our lives are true gifts. She doesn’t even realize how much her total faith in him meant–to both him and me.)
–Finally I got home, ready to write! Totally in the zone…Wizard comes home for racing and I lost another twenty minutes of catching each other up on the events of our day.
–By now it’s 3:30 in the afternoon but I was going to WRITE! I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my scene…
–The phone rings. It’s oldest son, CPA boy. So we talk and talk and I’m having a great time, then almost an hour later I hang up.
–Wizard looked up at me and grinned. “Always good to take a day off.”
“Yeah, if this is the worst problem I ever have, I’m good.”
He raised his wine glass (which he’d poured for both of us while I was on the phone with CPA boy.) “Right there with you, witch.”
And despite all that, I actually did make some forward progress on the book. I can’t figure out how but I’ll take it!
So how was your weekend?
