Weekend Roundup

I blame Wizard for working less. He’s a BAD influence. I’m really learning how to do down time now because he’s so relaxed since he’s retired. But yesterday Wizard was going racing, so I thought YES! I can work for a couple hours, go meet Biker Witch for coffee, then come home and work more. It was a great plan. I got right up to 8;15 a.m. with that plan. I was writing, excited that I found a better way to tackle a scene that needed rewriting…

—Then BLB (youngest son) shows up with his new Jeep. He came by just to see what we’re doing. And if his dad was around, they were going to wash and wax the Jeep together, but wizard was gone. BLB was actually happy that his dad was out keeping busy and having fun.

–So instead BLB and I talked for a while.

–Then I felt compelled to make him breakfast. He never asked, but I can’t help myself. It’s the mom gene, I guess.

–Then he had to show me how to pull back the soft top on his Jeep (because it’s soooo cool like that, LOL)

–Then we had to watch Flip or Flop and discuss the tax ramifications of flipping homes. I know, you think I’m kidding because no one can be that boring. Nope. We really had that conversation.

–Then we bored ourselves and started talking about dogs.

–After that BLB went with me to meet Biker Witch for coffee and we all ended up talking for hours. Mostly about BLB’s new Jeep and dogs :-) (A side note: Biker Witch was really there for BLB through his leg ordeal, so she was genuinely thrilled to see how far he’s come since then. She always believed in him. People like that in our lives are true gifts. She doesn’t even realize how much her total faith in him meant–to both him and me.)

–Finally I got home, ready to write! Totally in the zone…Wizard comes home for racing and I lost another twenty minutes of catching each other up on the events of our day.

–By now it’s 3:30 in the afternoon but I was going to WRITE! I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my scene…

–The phone rings. It’s oldest son, CPA boy. So we talk and talk and I’m having a great time, then almost an hour later I hang up.

–Wizard looked up at me and grinned. “Always good to take a day off.”

“Yeah, if this is the worst problem I ever have, I’m good.”

He raised his wine glass (which he’d poured for both of us while I was on the phone with CPA boy.) “Right there with you, witch.”

And despite all that, I actually did make some forward progress on the book.  I can’t figure out how but I’ll take it!

So how was your weekend?

I’m with Wizard. It’s good to have a day off, especially when you spend it having quality time with your family.

BLB certainly is having a great time with his new Jeep. I’m Very happy for him. It’s always so much fun having a new car and having had a Jeep I can relate

Once again I wrote a huge reply that didn’t fully post :!:
Needless to say, you have a great family and it’s great that BLB has such a loving Aunt.

    Have a wonderful day.

You guys will settle into a routine of some kind, trust me. And then from time to time you’ll shake up the routine – just because. One of the great things about being a writer is you have time to spend hours talking with your family. It’s also one of the downfalls because the writing is still there staring at you when you get done. I’m so happy you got to hang out with BLB and with Biker Witch, and chat with CPA boy. And that you got work done anyway. ;o)

I got my final cover and then spent the weekend working on the tagline and the blurb. Sent those off this morning. Read a little. Watched tragic football. And then a couple movies. Today I’m debating whether to go into the city with Hubs or stay home and clean. 90 minutes in the car vs scrubbing floors. Hanging out with my best friend or getting some alone time. Taking the day off vs working. Sounds like an easy decision, but it’s not.

Sounds like you had a great time! Down time is good. Family time even better! Plus, you did get work in, so all is well in the world.

The weather here the last couple of days have been unseasonably warm, so Hubs took me out on the Harley. We just rode, with no particular place in mind. We ended up going through some antique shops and riding around downtown. He needed it as much as I did.

The monster hit me later and then sunday, but I’m not complaining. Got some time with my best friend. :)

I love hearing about your family. You guys are the best!

I had chapter meeting Saturday and since I’m the prez this year, had to go. Yay.

I got revisions on my proposal for the 3rd Red Dirt book. Mr. Editor isn’t quite on board yet. :( Keep reminding me 3rd time is the charm. I brainstormed with the gal sitting next to me at lunch–not my usual CP–and I think I may have smoothed out some of the rough spots.

Sunday, I cleared some of the Christmas stuff–it’s been too cold or I’ve been sick, worked on some proofreading, and did a scene on a WIP with a March deadline. Have a few business/other WIP things to deal with this morning and then I’ll get started on RDR#3, plus some proofreading.

Yeah, it’s Monday. All day. Even if it is a holiday. :P

Viki I wonder why you’re having trouble with your post? If you think it’s the blog/website let me know and I’ll have my web designer look into it.

BLB is having a great time, but soon he’ll be right in the middle of tax season.

Hope you had a good weekend.

B.e., so what did you decide, or with hubby or stay home? I get torn like that too. I’m still surprised how easily I’m adjusting to Wizard’s retirement. But I do need a little more discipline in writing (and staying offline!)

It’s all moving fast toward publishing your book now!

Sorry football was tragic for you :-( I won’t tell you how happy Wizard was.

Ashlynn, the Harley ride sounds like a great way to enjoy the warmer weather! Sorry the rest of your weekend didn’t go as well.

Family trumps work (usually) for me. When my kids were home, I set some boundaries and eventually they got pretty good at respecting them.

Hope you have a monster-free week!

Silver, you wouldn’t thing my family is the best if you’d seen BLB and Biker Witch ganging up on me at Starbucks. They were really amusing themselves :-)

That’s right you’re the president now. That does require some prep and your presences at the meeting (plus oh-so-fun board meetings, LOL). But it sounds like you got some real help from the meeting and that’s truly priceless when doing revisions!

Now repeat after me; THE THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM! Seriously, three passes isn’t unusual at all. You’ve got this. Trust me!

Hi Jenn – I think it’s my OLD ipad that’s the problem since I’ve never had a problem when posting from the computer.

We had such a nice time Saturday night. Everything about the place was fantastic. The server was on spot, the atmosphere perfect and all the food was excellent. Mind you it was very expensive but the kid only turns 35 once so hubs and I will deal with it ;).

Have a really great day and say Hi to Linc ;).

I stayed home. My floors look fabulous, I aired the house out so it smells awesome, and I got some writerly stuff done. He had a nice day out by himself, too, so it’s all good. =o)

Viki, thanks for telling me. But if ever you do notice problems coming from the blog, let me know.

Sounds like you gave your son a lovely evening to celebrate his birthday!
