Weekend Roundup

I had some potentially exciting news yesterday. I can’t talk about it yet, but I just wanted to say that opportunities sometimes come out of nowhere on a Sunday afternoon. You just never know!

Otherwise, we’re a little (A LOT!) behind getting started on Christmas, but that’s okay. Wizard is around to help, it’ll work out. I’d love to get this book totally drafted before January, which is completely unrealistic with the holidays. I have a better chance of getting a puppy for Christmas than finishing a draft of this book. But a girl can dream, right?

Either way, I’m excited with a thousand plans for the new series running through my head.

And I’m starting to think about Christmas baking. I’m going to only do a few things this year, but I’m trying to decide which cookies and desserts to cut out. Do you guys bake? Have you cut back in recent years?

How was your weekend?

    Tease! =op
But yay for new opportunities! Good luck with the drafting and with getting Christmas all squared away. I’ve cut way back on the baking. I made pretzel turtles this weekend, and they were super easy. But that may be the extent of my goodie creating this year. It’s not like we have other people who’ll eat the goodies and lord knows we don’t need to eat all that ourselves.

The weekend was good. It was sunny and not as cold. I got some woods work done – clearing leaves under the bushes just off the back yard. Would you believe I found more garbage under years of leaf litter? Two and a half years here and I thought I’d found it all. But no. I missed my deadline, but my editor said she’s cool with it. I’ll have it done today or tomorrow. Other than that, reading and football. Another quiet weekend in the Ozarks. =o)

B.E., time is going by too fast to get it all done! I want to bake for some family stuff, but we’ll see. The pretzel turtles sound good.

That part of your property has some good hiding places, LOL! You must have been surprised.

It never feels good to miss a deadline, but an understanding editor helps :-)

Oh good – secret news. Can’t wait to hear what cool thing is about to happen.

We’re behind with Christmas too. It all gets done to some extent ;). Good thing you have Wizard helping out too. Makes it a bit less stressful.

Cutting back on baking is a good thing I think. I don’t know about you but so much doesn’t get eaten around here and I have to toss it. Hate that.

I’m only going to bake one thing this year and it’s Banana Cake. I did buy all the stuff to make fudge.

We haven’t set up the decorations yet. I thought we were going to do that this weekend but we bought a new couch instead and it will be delivered this Sat. Excited :).

The birthday dinner didn’t turn out as planned. The place he wanted to go to only does call ahead seating. I called 1 1/2 hrs ahead and was told we’d still have an hour wait. Tried a few more places (all of us were in cars driving to the supposed location by now) with no success. Finally the youngest got us into a Japanese place. Wonderful time once we all got there ;).

    I hope you’ve had a great day plotting :).

Viki, how frustrating for you guys trying to celebrate your son’s birthday! I’m glad it worked out once you got to a restaurant. I don’t get that call ahead seating only. Why not just take reservations?

Wonderful on your new couch! Hope you love it even more once it’s in your home :-)

Christmas will work out. Frankly given all the loss of life around us lately, I’m just grateful for what I do have and need to stop worrying about material things.

I bet banana cake is delicious. Do you ice it? I baked some cookies today (stress relief, LOL) but my other baking this season will be for parties, not us. Like you, we just can’t (or shouldn’t!!) eat it all.
