Happy Friday Five

Happy Friday! I hope all of you in the path of the latest snow storm are warm and safe!

Okay let’s do our insomnia-driven-and-therefore-very-random Friday Five:

  1. I’m trying to decide between two different conferences being held in Florida this year (RWA in late July or NINC in early October). I’m leaning toward NINC but… by the time I decide, they’ll both be booked and I’ll be mad but save a ton of money. Wizard’s no help–although he’ll go with me, he tells me it’s my call because it’s my career. Did I ask him to be logical? No I did not. I asked him which location–Disney World in Orlando or Tradewinds in St. Pete’s Beach–he would prefer. Men.
  2. However Wizard is looking up first class flights for both of us to go to Florida. I’m going to have to sell a kidney and yet, with his back, I know it’s better for him. I tried to talk him into me flying in coach and him flying first class…um…that conversation didn’t go well.
  3. Why does one of my eyebrows have a couple gray hairs, but not the other one. Why??? I’m unbalanced and it’s oddly disturbing. I feel like my eyebrows are messing with me, maybe even plotting evil things.
  4. And speaking of whys–why does fun have a price? An out-of-town friend called and was in town. Yay! It was great to see him and a good break for Wizard who is bored out of his mind, but those few hours of fun cost me with deadlines bearing down on me. Fun should be free, that’s all I’m saying.
  5. Yesterday I was tired (anyone have a spell to banish insomnia?) and working on a tough scene that involves a touchy subject. Frustrated, I paced the house saying, “Dang it Liza, what do you feel? It’s allll about the feels. How can I write the scene if I don’t know what you feel about this subject????” Wizard looked up from reading the paper. “This is a totally new line of crazy for you. But it looks good on you. Carry on.” Then he went back to reading the paper. Whatever…

Okay that’s my random Friday Five. Your turn!

Have a great weekend!

If I remember correctly, NINC was more productive for you last time. (Or was that someone else?) LOL, I can well imagine how the ‘I’ll sit in coach’ discussion went. Ugh, gray eyebrow hairs. They have a mind of their own. LOL about the whole new kind of crazy thing, too. You two kill me.

    1) I got an email from Amazon saying I’d get a $10 credit for Kindle if I purchased any non-fiction title. So I did. But no credit. I contacted their customer help chat thing and the person there promptly told me I got no such email. Long story short, they gave me the credit. Just now, I got the exact same email again. LOL
    2) I was sitting in the living room last night and Hubs was in the office when we both heard this loud, long howl. It sounded like it was right outside the house. I’m guessing coyote, since we don’t have wolves here.
    3) I probably said this last week, but my 2-year publishing anniversary is Monday. I made it two whole years with my sanity mostly intact. Yay.
    4) It’s February 10th and I’m already seeing signs of Spring here. Not just my silly bulb plants – which are all coming up early again this year – but the animals. The male goldfinches are turning yellow already. The deer are turning chestnut brown. And a male bass I caught was ready to spawn. (you don’t want to know how I know that last one.) Punxatawney Phil must’ve been smoking something on the 2nd.
    5) I’m making steady progress on Wish Hits the Fan. I feel like it’s a hot mess, but it’s words on paper, so I’m good.

Have I mentioned I’m half in love with Wiz and totally adore the way you two interact? Just sayin’…

Okay. My five, also insomnia induced and totally random.

    1) I’m totally wrapped around the axle on a thing in a book. Only I can’t remember the book, which is in a series of like 50 books if you count the novellas. In Death. In one of the books, HSO does a deep background on Eve, which triggers an alert that Roarke has set up. Then, in that book–or another–Roarke threatens HSO with dire consequences. And again, in a book, he wipes Eve’s background. I’m about to spend major bucks to finish out my collection. Oh, I have them all in one form or another but I want them in every form available–mostly audio so I can listen while doing other stuff and still read new stuff. Argh. Okay, that should be like five things! I shall have to just reread the whole dang series. *sigh*

    2) We have Stormageddon for a few hours tomorrow, followed by entire clan gathering for pizza Saturday night. Yay.

    3) I have a bad case of procrastination but no time to indulge. Deadlines. At least I’m 1/3 way through proposal for next RDR book. Still have to write a 25K novella. Gosh, only 23500 words to go on it.

    4) High of 77 today, 86 tomorrow, high winds and fire danger. What winter? And we need rain.

    5) Okay, I default to #1 for my fifth. Or I plead the fifth. Or drink it. Yeah, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

I listen to meditation or hypnotherapy albums on Spotify to get to sleep. I’m normally out within a few minutes.
    1. Trying to get my husband out of bed so we can get food. We drove down to NC from VA last night to visit family so he’s understandably tired and his back is bothering him but I’m getting hangry.
    2. Wondering what the kitties are up to at home. I know they are in good hands but I miss my fur babies. Would it be weird to Skype them?
    3. Feels weird to not be at work. I really don’t take that much time off like I should.
    4. The dogs inside are barking with the one outside. I wonder what they’re talking about?
    5. I wish I could stay in pajamas all day.

    2) Coyote howls are hair raising (we have them here too).
    3) 2 year self pubbing is a milestone to be celebrated!
    4) False Spring maybe? I dunno with the weather anymore
    5) Hot mess will morph into a great book! Keep typing!

Carrie T, I may try your insomnia cure.

    1) Hope your husband is up and feeding you! And have fun with family!
    2) It’s not weird at all to Skype with your beloved kitties. A friend of mine just told me he Facetimes with his dog when he travels :-)
    3) You deserve the time off!
    4) I, too, often wonder what dogs are talking about. Glad I’m not alone!
    5) We can’t stay in pajamas all day?

    Have a great weekend!

Viki, thanks for popping in (I’m picturing a Bewitched like “pop in” LOL!) And thanks for the nudge toward Florida in Oct. I’m going to try to book that tonight. That is, if I can bear the pain to my pocketbook… (does anyone use the work pocketbook anymore???)

    Have a great weekend!
