Weekend Roundup

It was a great weekend! Well, aside from a small infection in my thumb, that is mildly gross and pretty much my fault. Peroxide and neosporin should take care of that.

So dress shopping with Middle son’s fiance was fun and she found the perfect dress that made me tear up when I saw her in it! The group included fiance, her mom, grandmother, aunts, cousins and friends (11 of us in total!). Technically I was the outsider, but they were all so warm and welcoming to me that I never felt that way. We began lunch on that patio of a charming cafe then onto the first dress shop appointment. That place wasn’t the experience we had hoped for. But our bride-to-be was game to give it a try to we were all in a great mood. They had some nice dresses, but nothing that was THE ONE. Everyone was very positive, we headed to the second dress shop and it was like stepping through the looking-glass into pure elegance, just like on the bridal TV shows.

We began to scan the lovely displays finding breath-stealing dresses! Then we looked at the price tags. Holy Houses! As in those dresses cost about the same as a down payments on a house!

And then we moved to another room brimming with more beautiful dresses, and these had price tags that fit into her budget! (She has a very reasonable budget.) The dress consultant took her off to chat about her wedding, then they got started. We were all settled in a very comfortable seating area around a modeling pedestal and mirror. We were served chilled pink champagne in flutes so enticing that even I tried one (I wasn’t driving). I usually avoid champagne as it will give me a headache, but I sipped one glass of this with no headache. It was crisp, bubbling and just a touch sweet. Then our girl came out in dress after dress, each more stunning than the last. The consultant really began to do some magic then, swiftly defining what she loved and what didn’t work until he seemed to know exactly what her dream dress looked like. Then he whisked our bride off again.

When they returned for the final time in a dress he had selected, I had the moment a chills and tears. Her mom, aunts and grandmother felt it even more of course, they all have loved her from the moment of her first breath. But for me, when I saw her beaming in that lovely, perfect dress, all I could think was There she is, my son’s beautiful bride, and our new daughter-in-law. I know, I know, I sound ridiculously corny. But some of this may make its way into Savaged Devotion :-)

Sunday was an equally great day. For Youngest’s birthday, I spent the morning making ribs and chocolate kahlua pound cake with a chocolate ganache icing.

I also made some kahlua whipped cream to add to the cake or coffee. And yes it was over the top, but I was enjoying a morning of cooking and baking. I did 90% of everything ahead, so it was easy and fun when Youngest and his fiance were over (they will marry next year). We had a nice, low key afternoon and they both seemed to really enjoy dinner and the cake (and playing with Maggie!)

My neck, shoulder and arm is bit sore but the weekend was worth it! Since the first epidural shot a few weeks ago, the pain settles down pretty quickly with a little rest and the meds I have on hand so I’m not concerned.

Today it’s back to the book! I’m hoping to pick up some speed again. This week should be less busy and I can focus on writing.

That was my weekend, how was yours!

I’m so glad your dress shopping experience was awesome. I worked at a bridal shop once, long ago in another section of my life. It is so special when they find the right dress. =o) OMG, that cake looks to die for. Yay for the birthday boy!

I had stuffs going on that made it a hinky weekend, but it’s all good. I got Blink finished and formatted and junk. I uploaded it a little bit ago. Here’s hoping it’s live by the end of the day. Or tomorrow. Tomorrow would be fine. Day early, but fine. Gah, I need more coffee. Have an awesome day! :hugs:

Awwwww. I have tears in my eyes! What a perfect day and YES! That scene better end up in a book!!!! Only went to work part-time in a bridal shop so she could get a discount on her dress. I raised a smart, sensible one. :D And B.E. is right. That cake looks to die for. YUM! When it comes to chocolate and Kahlua, there’s no such thing as “over the top.” Just justin’!

My weekend was…a weekend. I worked some–new words YAY but not enough new words BOO. I vegged a bit. Stayed in my PJs. I plan to knuckle down this week and get the dang books finished! Only and I are starting to thing about the cover. And I need to work on the blurb. *blerg*

And now I, too, need more coffee! Here’s to a productive week for all of us!

B.E. what a fun job :-) I’m sure you had some interesting experiences.

The cake was good, I sent most of it for BLB and fiance to take to their homes and kept smaller pieces for Wizard. I’m back to the W.W. points today :-(

I’m going to try to remember to check and see if your book is live tonight. Congrats on getting it all done!!! What a great way to start your week!

Silver, Only is smart! What a great idea, and she probably gleaned some insider type tips as well. You most definitely raised a smart and sensible daughter!

Fortunately Youngest and his fiance agreed with you–there’s no over the top with chocolate and kahla. Fiance took the left over kahlua whipped cream home for her coffee. I was delighted to give it to her. (there’s only a small amount of kahlua in there, so she can use it in her morning coffee).

Blurbs–ugh! I hate writing them and they take forever. but covers are more fun! Hope you get a lot of writing done today!

What a great time you had Saturday! Isn’t one of those tingly moments when that “right” dress comes out? The same sort of experience occurred with my girlfriend and her daughter. She’s let me see a 1 foot X 1 foot photo pc of the gown.

I remember when BLB’s cake was nothing but candy ;). Is his tummy growing a little ;)? I’d love that cake for breakfast.

Sorry to hear about the pain flaring up. When is your next shot?

This back thing stinks. I get the stitches removed Thursday but the doc said it still won’t be healed enough for me to lift :(. Hubs is annoyed that I can’t vacuum. He could do it.

Still having serious issues with McAfee. I’m so ticked off with them!

I hope you have a great afternoon.

PS – Love Maggie with her ears flying on FB :).

Viki, I know it sucks, but your back is going to take time. If they sent the removed tissue to the lab, I hope all comes back clear. Hubs should vacuum for you for at least two weeks. Wizard’s doing our vacuuming these days :-)
    (housekeepers come once a month).

Saturday was pretty special, thanks! And thanks on the cake. I’m sure it would be awesome for breakfast, but I’m resisting. I think BLB’s taste has evolved some from the infamous candy cake days. Yet he’d probably still eat it!

McAfee needs to get this fixed for you now. I’m so sorry! It’s bad enough with your back issues, but haven’t computer problems on top of it is just wrong.

I thought Maggie’s ears were priceless this morning. But the wind didn’t bother her, she just wanted to walk-n-sniff.

Hope your week improves and your back feels better.
