Weekend Roundup

What a weekend. We spent much of it fighting traffic, and we didn’t get home until late last night.

Saturday we went out to Wizard’s mom to see an Uncle from out-of-state. We only get to see him once a decade, so we made it work, and it was an amazing visit.

On Sunday, Turbo had a great birthday! But due to our city being completely overwhelmed by folks coming to see the poppies, we had to move the party to Middle Son’s house. Middle Son and his wife were awesome about it, we all pulled together and it worked out. Turbo had a very happy birthday! He got a lot of gifts, but he spent most of the time playing in the wrapping paper, and later, with a cup and spoon :-) Typical, LOL!!!

But…after what we witnessed this weekend, I’m fear for the survival of the human race. Idiots were stopping on the freaking freeway, and walked down the side of it with their little kids to see the poppies. Our city is gridlocked, they’ve been snake bites and accidents, a city employee was hit by a car, and the driver took off. I know a lot more happened but I haven’t had time to check the news on my sites. I’m not exaggerating this, it was terrible, extremely dangerous and truly makes me doubt that common sense even exists any longer. The city posted on social media that all their resources were exhausted and the situation was out of control. Of course they’ve reached out to other resources (police, etc) to help, but we’re talking about 50 thousand people swarming a small city.

Wizard and I are exhausted, and tomorrow morning we have to get up early to go back out-of-town to a dentist appointment, which means back into that poppy gridlock. Hopefully it won’t be as bad as the weekend, or the normally 30 minute drive one way will take up to 2 hours.

Oh, one other good thing, we took Maggie with us to James’s birthday. It’s the first time we got Maggie, and Middle Son’s big dog, Jett together. They did great! Maggie was a very good girl, and Jett’s a totally cool dude who loves all dogs.

How was your weekend?

Friday Five

This week was a whirlwind! Okay here’s five random things about my week:

  1. I had to go to jury duty on Wednesday. I made it as far as being selected as an alternate juror on a criminal trial before being excused. I have a friend going through something very close to the charges against the defendant in this case, so the judge excused me. I really liked this judge. He was very good at handling ridiculous excuses in a couple of jurors, and had us all laughing at times, while maintaining excellent control over his courtroom. I wouldn’t mind serving as a juror on a short trial in his courtroom at some point, but this wasn’t the best fit for me, and he agreed once I expressed my concern.
  2. So many people were sick and coughing in that jury room! Since I’m at the end of my cold, I should be safe, but wow, that crud is going around everywhere.
  3. I’ve had very little time to write this week. I’m not complaining though, there are worse things that having a busy life filled with people I care about. And I’m still sticking to stopping most work/activity at 4 or 5 (except for cooking dinner and cleanup) to keep healing. My doctors had all warned me how long healing would take, and they weren’t wrong. But I’m doing great, with a lot less pain than I had before the surgery. In time, I’ll get back up to the speed I’m aiming for.
  4. Turbo turns one year old this weekend! It went so fast, and that boy is such a joy to Wizard and me! We’re having a little family party at our house on Sunday. I’m making beef and chicken tacos, and my version of strawberry shortcake, which is semi-homemade pound cake as the base for the strawberries and fresh whipped cream.
  5. It’s also our daughter-in-law’s (Middle Son’s wife)! We all love her and feel very lucky to have her in our family!

That was my five, now I’d love to hear yours! Have a great weekend!

Wednesday Worthy

It’s hump day and time for a little eye candy.

So what do you think, is he worthy?

Weekend Roundup

Poppy Mania is snarling traffic in our city! I know they’re pretty, and hikers love it. But do folks have to stop on freeway and off ramps clogging up traffic and cause hazards? Or park in the middle of the street? Or let theirs kids or dogs wander on the roads unsupervised while mom or dad post to Facebook or whatever??? Just asking… Honestly, I appreciate the rare beauty, I’d just like folks to use some common sense.

Friday: I finally got to see my sister Biker Witch! We had lunch and walked around some shops, then had dessert. Visiting with my sister always makes me happy.

Friday night, I was pretty miserable with the stupid cold, so Wizard talked me into taking some cough and cold syrup with antihistamine in it. Sigh…poor Wizard, I scared the hell out of him by screaming in the dead of night. I don’t even remember it, but Wizard said I was having a nightmare and he got me to calm down. I believe him, it’s not the first time I’ve done it, I just usually wake up and recall it the next day. It freaks me out that I don’t remember it this time. So…yeah…no more antihistamines at night for me.

Today I’m feeling much better.

CPA Boy and Special K’s dog little dog, Miracle Max, had to have a second emergency surgery for another ruptured disc in his back. He pulled through the first surgery for two ruptured discs last November, and with some specialized physical therapy, he regained some use of his back legs. This time, the odds are not that great, and yet, when Special K went to visit him yesterday, he had some feeling in his back paws less than 48 hours after the second surgery! He’s truly Miracle Max, and we’re all pulling for him that he can resume a happy quality of life. He sure has owners who love him and are willing to fight to give him a chance.

I struggled with my book, and obviously cold meds are not my friend, LOL, but yesterday, I think I found a scene that will turn the book in the direction it needs to go. This has been my problem turning point that trips me up every time I try to rewrite the book, so this is significant! I’ll work on that more today.

I’m on call for jury duty all week, but didn’t have to go in today.

And here’s a pic of my grandson, Turbo. Apparently his dad told him he can’t eat dog food, and Turbo is arguing with him. I think Turbo is winning the debate, LOL! He’s about a week shy of his first birthday and getting so big…and opinionated!

So that was some of my weekend, how was yours?

Friday Five

TGIF, it’s time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. I have a boomerang version of this cold. Wizard has had the normal progression: Sore throat, congestion, a little cough, feeling icky for two to three days, then improving steadily each day after that. He’s almost kicked the cold entirely. I had two days of a sore throat and some congestion which then disappeared. Tuesday evening, it returned coated in ground glass which scraped all over my throat for two days and nights. Yesterday afternoon, my throat was improving dramatically, thereby saving me a trip to Urgent Care, so yay for that! Now I appear to just have the tail end of a cold.
  2. Wizard is convinced I went back to writing too soon. Maybe, but I’m really trying! I had one day this week when I was obsessed with writing and had to force myself to stop and walk away at 5pm. (Okay, Wizard may have used a glass of wine to lure me away from the computer, LOL) I love that feeling! Yesterday, I couldn’t make a scene work no matter what I tried, and I ended up doing laundry, vacuuming, dusting, anything else but writing. That kind of monotonous busy work, sadly, helps me think too. Hopefully by today, I’ll have the solution to tackle and tame the scene.
  3. Next week I have jury duty again. I had it not long after my surgery, but once I showed up wearing my hard brace, and the still healing scar on my throat, they were happy to defer it for almost three months :-)
  4. One day, I want to write a fast-paced, can’t-catch-your-breath thriller. Or suspense. I love both suspense and thrillers. However I can’t stomach horror movies, and or gory scenes. Heck, I can barely stomach watching the news.
  5. I hope to finally have lunch with Biker Witch today. I had to cancel last Friday because I was getting sick. Then we cancelled plans Wednesday because it was raining (we were meeting at an outdoor mall). Tomorrow may be iffy as Biker Witch had a small procedure today (she’s okay), and it’s possible she may not feel up to it. But we’ll get together soon one way or another!

That’s my Friday Five, now I’d love to hear yours! Hope everyone has a great weekend! And for most of us in the U.S., don’t forget to set your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night :-)

Wednesday Worthy

It’s supposed to rain here, how about where you are?

Okay onto Wednesday Worthy! This guy has nice abs, but oops, I think his pants are slipping. Shh, no need to tell him–they probably won’t fall off :-)

So what do you think, is he worthy?

Weekend Roundup

It’s been a bland weekend. Wizard and I have colds and quarantined ourselves to keep from spreading germs. So far my cold is mild, and Wizard’s is the Dreaded Man Cold. He’s definitely sicker than I am, but he’s not as close to life support status as he might think he is :-)  Although he’s getting bored, so there’s hope, LOL!

Most exciting part of this weekend was figuring out how to restructure a scene. I hope I’m on the right track here.

It rained all day Saturday, and Maggie is really tired of it. However, we have no right to complain given what the rest of the country is enduring with cold and dangerous weather. Not long before I wrote this blog, I got a newsflash on my phone about deadly tornadoes in Alabama and Georgia with grim death tolls. I really hope all of you are warm and safe!

So how was your weekend? Probably more interesting than mine.
