Great weekend, I got lots of work done and my oldest son and his girlfriend came out for dinner. They brought my middle son’s dog, Bailey, with them and I spent most of the time on the floor playing with the dog.
I love dogs!
The Wizard does not love dogs. He likes Bailey, pets him a little bit then he’s done. He does not get down on the floor and play tug of war so long that he wakes up with a cramp in his hand at 3am. So for a few years now, we’ve been having a dog discussion.
Me: I want a dog. (Here’s a pic of a dog from my local pound)
Wizard: We can’t. The back yard is mostly pool and cement.
Me: There’s enough dirt in the planters and stuff. I want a dog.
Wizard: It gets too hot for a dog out here.
Me: It’ll be a house dog!
Wizard groans: He’ll tear up the furniture!
Me: I’ll get an older dog from the pound.
Wizard: There’s no one to take care of the dog when we leave.
Are you seeing a pattern here? I will not get a dog until Wizard agrees 100%. Dogs and kids should be wanted and loved. So I wait and bug him. I am patient…
Well okay, maybe I was a tad annoyed and deleted the Wizard’s picture from my cell phone and replaced it with Bailey’s picture. And now I’m calling Bailey my Grand Dog and annoying the bejeebers out of the Wizard.
But let me tell you, Wizard is stubborn. And maybe, possibly, I want a dog in my head more than I do in reality. Dogs require a lot of attention, then there’s vet trips and barking and problems…but shhhh…don’t tell the Wizard. Bugging him is fun!

We had a pretty good weekend. It helps that the kiddo was farmed out at a sleepover b-d party!
We just hung out by the pool, ate ribs and watched hubster sweat as he dug drain lines around the yard.
I love dogs/cats/guinea pigs/etc. but your hubster is right. Who picks up the poop? Who picks up the vomit when they get old and puke ALL the time (daily)? What about ‘accidents’ on the brand new carpeting (yeah, last year).
I love my dog, but when we go on vacation we have to leave her (and the cat and guinea pig) home alone. Grandma comes over twice a day, but we also have my old co-worker (paid handsomely) (who is also our kiddo sitter, swim instructor, house sitter, everything you could EVER need in a person!) come over for a late evening check.
Yes, when the critters get old, they eat three small meals a day, plus potty breaks.
It’s something to think about before you bring home a new member of the family.
Maybe you can Bailey-sit for a weekend to get The Wizard used to the idea.

With the one blue eye and one brown eye, the pic reminds me of my Tutter – who I had to give up for adoption when I moved in ’01. I’d love to get a dog again, but our lease prohibits them. I had a tough enough time convincing the landlady to let us bring our cat. (We wouldn’t be living here if I couldn’t have my Kira kitty.)
The weekend here was spent laying around–reading, writing, watching sports, playing on the computer. With Her Majesty Kira laying nearby.

I had a pretty good weekend. I talked about it over on my blog. I saw 17 Again and The Notebook. Both very good movies.
This week I plan on working on my book. Yes, you heard me. I WILL BE WORKING ON MY STORY! (that was for my benefit…lol)
And dogs are a lot of work. One of mine pukes in the floor almost every night. Why? Because she eats everything. And I can never have everything picked up with 2 kids and a hubby in the house. She’s sweet…but a mess. Would rather have a dog than a cat though.

You’re so good to the Wizard. When I wanted a dog and my husband balked, I went and got one anyone. I told him that the only requirement from him was that he was nice to the dog. He loves him very much now. That’s why I got another one!

I’m really wanting a german shephard (I’ve always wanted one) but yeah, they’re a lot of work and we vacation every summer – we’d have to get someone to watch it – and then there’s the expense – we don’t have extra for us let alone a pet
Told my husband ‘when we move off Long Island I want to get one for our girls’ sounds better than ‘I want one for me’

I’m lonely here all day! But yeah, in all seriousness, those are the things that hold me back. I raised three kids–not sure I want to do it all over again with a dog.
Bailey visits are a good idea!
And now I have a craving for ribs. I don’t even like them all that much, LOL!

I’ve seen THE NOTEBOOK and like it except for the beginning. Can’t get past the cheating part. Haven’t seen 17 Again, so something to look forward too on DVD!

I had a busy weekend with RWA chapter, housecleaning, headbanging over still-unusable shower, and arrival of our guests.
Dogs? Uhm…I’m driving two hours tomorrow to go pick up an 8-week-old puppy. Who weights 13 pounds already. Who will probably grow up to weight 140 pounds. And drool. I love Newfoundlands!
Boone is lonely and Adidas (the cat) gets really annoyed when he brings his toys to her to play tug. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Happy Monday, all.

Ban, very clever! That was how I got a rabbit–it was for my son. We all loved that bunny, including my husband. But he agreed to it before we got it.

I worked Friday (already whined about that.) Saturday I had a baby shower. After the shower, I hung out with my cousin for a while. Sunday I ready and played on the computer when I should have been getting my cleaning and laundry done. I’m still procrastinating on that
Dogs may be a lot of work, but they’re worth it. Tearing up the furniture? Obedience school. No one to take care of him? That’s why there are doggie day cares and kennels. They have other people and other dogs to play with there. Find reasons to invalidate his arguments. You’ll wear him down eventually

Jen, I know how you feel about the dog. It’s one of the reason’s I don’t have one now. That and I can’t have one where I live anyway. I loved the dog I had when I was younger, though. She was always happy to see me. If I was pissed or depressed, she made me feel better. What’s not to love about that?
