Kids…Why?

So my middle  son sent me a picture text over the weekend:

bailey-wants-to-play

With the picture, my middle  son said, “Bailey wants to play!”

I text back, “I want to play! Can Bailey come over and play with me?”

Son, “No!”

Me, “Meanie!”

Son, ” :-)

So is this pay back for all the times I said no to him?

And then I sent this picture to my youngest son who was upstairs. “Can you send this picture to my email account so I can put it on my blog?” (Youngest son has a Blackberry that can do everything except make coffee.)

Youngest son, “Maybe.” Then he came down stairs and LAUGHED at me.

I asked with incredible patience, “Can you send it for me?”

Youngest son, “How much will you pay me?”

Me, “How much will you pay me to live here? And eat my food? And breathe my air?”

He sent it.

Kids…what was I thinking?

Mine are 16, 14, and 12. They ask for money and I tell them to do chores to earn the money. I don’t have set jobs and allowances for them. I found it was cheaper and I get more work out of them if I let them alone till they want something. My oldest is trying to get a job to earn his own money. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. It may save my wallet but then I lose one of my worker bees. :)

Nor can we lock them in a closet…though I anticipate mine getting lost in the Black Hole she calls a room one of these days. We’ll have to send rescue dogs in to find her. Mine’s almost 24. She moved out for college. Moved home to finish college. And dragged home a boy. *sigh* I need a good spell. Or appletinis!

8, 5 and 4. I am so (insert much sarcasm) looking forward to the teenage years. HA!

Oh you ladies have been dying over here!!! =)
Mine is 15… almost 16 (which she reminds me all the time) and yes, her room has a black hole in it somewhere… because we can’t find her sometimes! Then I won’t even broach the subject of chores and money!!! But I do agree with Val… when she wants something, I get the most work out of her!
A good spell would be great Silver!
And Jen… I was laughing with your boys! I ask my daughter “can you upload/download this or just show me what to do”… and her response is “mom, you just do this”. Okay, if it were really that simple, then I would not be asking you!! LOL!!!
    Sheesshhh ~ teenagers!!!
I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!

Mandi, LOLOL! Okay, my kids are adults (20, 23 & 25) and while the teenage years had some hard moments, the boys also made me laugh. You’ll survive it!

Val, we did the same thing, and it works! My boys all got jobs around 16 and bought their own cars at 18. I see you have three too–good luck :-)

Margaret, there were moments when I could have locked them in a cage though :-) But now? They are a joy! (Even if they do torment me!)

Silver, there is hope! Last time we went to my two older son’s house, it was CLEAN! The Wizard and I were stunned! Beds made, dishes done, carpets vacuumed…CLEAN!

I vote for Appletinis! All this teenage talk is giving me flashbacks. Who’s with me?

Amanda, you have 3 kids like me, too! As teenagers, the will sometimes do amazing things that surprise the heck out of you! Seriously, it’s not all bad!

Cecile, Almost 16…yeah, that’s a tough age! Around 17 I started seeing something human emerging from all those hormones :-)

On the tech stuff, yep! My youngest has the best phone ever (he pays for it, he works and goes to college). So I get him to do stuff like that for me all the time. But somethings, I can do better than him!

Also youngest son got up out of bed really early to help me unload groceries. I never asked, he just heard me open the garage and got up :-)

Jen – Maybe they cleaned because they knew you were coming. :) At 36 I still go on a cleaning rampage anytime I know my mom is coming over. Even when she was working her house was always spotless, mine is normally a disaster zone. No way is she seeing that.

Ok, Jen. What spell did you cast on Youngest to get him to do that? The joy of girls? Those hormones don’t go away…they just resort to rearing their ugly heads once a month.

    I vote appletinis! I’m pouring…

Val, you could be right! But boys are less concerned about that stuff than girls. They sure weren’t worried about it in the past!

Silver, truthfully, this kid has always helped with groceries if he’s around. They all do. I’m guessing it’s their dad’s influence. He can’t stand to see me lifting stuff.

Oh yeah, I hear you on girls! I don’t have any daughters, but I am a girl ;-)

Appltinis! I have my glass all ready!

Here is my glass \~/… I am ready! Yes, teenage daughters are another whole game than boys!!! Hubby threatens that he is really building himself a man cave… at least for those once a month occurances, lmao!!! She is a wonderful young lady though… she is. But Oh Man, when those moments come up!!!! AGGGUUUGGGGHHHH… can you say “lock the door and throw away the key”. But just when those hormones really come out is it not nice in my house! But every other day, she is just a regular teenager, who does not hear you call her name because the ipod is going on, texting messages are flying back and forth, the instant messager thing is going off and the tv is on!!! And always has homework when you ask “can you help me with the dishes or supper or the trash”… Homework Mom… you always said homework came first… Make that two drinks needed \~/ \~/

I have a 13 year old girl and an 11 year old boy.
I know teenage stuff. It’s excruciating! The teen attitude drives me up a wall.

But– both my kids keep their rooms clean. They know I won’t tolerate it. :) And Jen, just like yours, mine only get paid when they do chores. Their rooms are not included! HA! They say I’m evil…MWAUAHAHA!!

I love em though. Even if sometimes I leave them at home rather than take them with me to run errands. :D

Cecile, don’t you love it when our kids use our own words against us? Homework over dishes–she’s a smart one!

Kira, I always made mine clean their rooms and make their beds UNTIL they got jobs. From 16 in, they were so busy, I started to let that slide. Your kids are lucky you care!

If teenagers don’t think their parents are evil, we’re doing something wrong ;-)
