Romance Lost A True Heroine

708_Kate_Duffy_at_Kensington_spotlight

The world of romance publishing lost a true heroine over the weekend, the legendary editor, Kate Duffy.

Kate touched many lives, including mine as she was my editor for many years. Although her story here on earth has come to an end,  like the unforgettable heroines of beloved romances novels, she will live on in our memories.

Happy trails, Kate, and  may your new journey be filled with books!

Mondays Can Be A Witch…

One month until the release of SOUL MAGIC! Okay, look, I did my promo…now for other stuff!

This weekend I finished reading THE BELLY DANCER by DeAnna Cameron. This book is hard to pigeonhole, it’s a historical romance, but very different, maybe more Women’s Fiction.  I enjoyed learning more about belly dancing and Egyptian Theatre.

After much debate, I started reading ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Normally I never read reviews on a book I intend to read. For some reason, I read reviews on this one and they sort of put me off (I know better than that!) But so far, I really like this book!

I also hung out with my sister this weekend. She surprised me with a gift! My sister is like that, she just gives gifts for no reason. She said it reminded her of me…

I took a pictures and I’d like YOUR opinion on that. Does this picture…

witch from sis

remind you guys of me? Anyway, I love the little witch and she’s sitting on my bookshelf in my office.

So how was your weekend?

T. M. I!

Someone let Cranky Jen Lyon out of the lair… and she’s choking on a hairball…just warning you all!

Lioness with AttitudeHave you heard? Mackenzie Phillips has written a book. In the book is the huge bombshell that she had sex with her father.

There are not enough appletinis in the world to make me read that book.

T. M. I.

Have you noticed that celebrities who’ve become irrelevant (pronounced h-a-s  b-e-e-n-s) all of a sudden write a book with explosive, salacious, gross details? Molestations, drug use…and now, incest (wait, what’s it called with a parent? Never mind I don’t want to know.)

And critics think romance novels are ripping apart the fabric of society one paper-climax at a time? Seriously?

When did our need for attention become so desperate that we must tell details like this? I have no idea of it’s true or not…but Machenizie doesn’t want us to hate her father because he was a loving man without boundaries.  To which I say: Machenzie, that comment? It’s your brain on drugs.

So I ask you all, what do you think? Do books like these really help people? Will you read the book? Have you read other Explosive Celeb Books?

Pass the appletinis, I really need to get rid of this hairball.

Weekend Roundup!

Friday, was awesome as Bailey came over to play…

Bailey on couch

I got no work done! None! And oh yeah, my son came over with Bailey :-) He’s my middle son and always a joy to see.  Plus, he has Bailey! (And yeah, that’s part of me behind the dog.)

Saturday started with a trip to the dentist and I realized there are certain things you don’t want to see at the dentist’s office. Like say the hygienist sharpening her tools. Yep, she had out a sharpening stone and was getting nice points on those hook things. Sigh.

The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful. I did finished SURRENDER OF A SIREN by Tessa Dare.  It was good.  I enjoyed learning more about life on a ship in 1817.

Now I have to get cracking on the Endless Synopsis. I’m really just not concentrating and staying focused. I will this week!

How was your weekend?

First Review for SOUL MAGIC

appletini 1

I just got an early copy of the Romantic Times review for SOUL MAGIC.

A Four Star HOT review!

Here’s a sneak peek…

Lyon is back for the second installment of her promising Magic series as she digs deeper into the mystery of soul mirrors. By setting her romantic protagonists on opposite sides of a curse, she ensures sacrifices will be needed. Readers are in for a roller-coaster ride of danger and emotional drama!

The entire review will be in the November edition of RT. And SOUL MAGIC will hit the bookstores on October 27th.

Whew! I’m so relieved–cyber-appletinis for everyone!

Monday Roundup!

linda howardI had a really good weekend! Linda Howard was at my RWA meeting, and she totally rocks! She’s outspoken and funny in her very charming Southern way. Oh the stories she told!

Her main talk was on the 12 steps to intimacy, and if you’ve never heard Linda talk on this before, I highly recommend it. You can google 12 steps on intimacy and find the actual list, but her way of presenting it is both informative and hilarious.

We had a signing at the meeting and I bought two books SURRENDER OF A SIREN by Tessa Dare (read her first on GODDESS OF THE HUNT and loved it.) And  THE BELLY DANCER by Deanna Cameron.  I’m excited about reading both these books. Full disclosure–I know both the authors, but still I really think they are both very talented!

Also this weekend, I finished MAGIC STRIKES by Ilona Andrews–I’m not sure what I think. I love the alpha in there, Curran. I like the heroine Kate, but the world building was almost overwhelming. There are so many creatures and so many rules,  I had to struggle to keep up. However, it’s the third book in the series and I haven’t read the first two yet, so that’s probably my fault.  I did finish the book and found much of it really enjoyable.

I’m reading GRAVE PERIL by Jim Butcher now and this one is a little slow for me.

How was your weekend? Let’s all catch up!

P.S. if you want to get my views on sex, hop on over to Murdershewrites.
