I missed you all! Thanksgiving turned out great, and was so much fun. Bailey loved his new toy, and much to my amusement, persuaded Wizard to play with him. Wizard looked up at me and said, “Why does he keep doing that sad look? I can’t stop if he’s going to look so sad.”

Oh and while we were cleaning and getting ready, Wizard told me to “move my skinny ass out of the way.” Isn’t that romantic? Even after all these years!
Oh, the pies Biker Witch brought were delicious, and the Kahlua Chocolate Cake I made (for the first time) was a hit. When Biker Witch and I throw a party, guests can always count on dessert! It’s funny that I was way more worried about the cake than the turkey. I can usually count on my bag-method of cooking turkey. It’s never failed me yet.

Glad your holiday went so well. I make a Kahlua/espresso/chocolate cake for my son most years for his birthday. I wonder if our recipes similar.
Our holiday went well. Turkey (also know as my boozy bird since I baste it with peach brandy) was great on Thursday and the ham on Friday with PeeWee present was even better. He is one energetic little guy. He never stopped moving :).

Thanksgiving here was nice. Calm. Restful. Even with the kid home. Hubs made another awesome feast. My team won their big rivalry game. Plus I got a lot of words out and finally finished this rewrite. Now I have to go through and polish, make sure everything’s how I need it to be, and then send it off to readers.

Awww! What a sweet wizard! And Bailey, dogs are smart you know! Well my weekend started out great! Wednesday was spent cleaning, de-cluttering, and purging old toys. Thursday my dad came over and cooked, I baked Wednesday night, after getting straight A’s for this semester I might add!
So we got to see the whole family (in laws and out laws!) Saturday was lazy and Sunday both vehicles broke down. *sigh* Didn’t do any black Friday shopping but I wish we had. I really want to get both boys a leappad but everywhere is out now.

Thursday I baked 7 pies (pie is an exceptable subsitue for a serving of fruit or even a breakfast at my house). Did the traditional Thanks Giving meal at my sister in laws and then had a very nice few days away from work. The kids and I started our homemade christmas gifts. We all stayed away from the shopping craze. Sunday we warmed up the house with the wood stove- I put a pot of bean soup on top to cook- and everyone was lazy. Even the cats just laid around looking melted on the furniture. A wood stove can do that- warm things up and melt away the troubles.

I baked Laura Griffin’s pie (recipe shared on Murder She Writes) and I thought we were all going to die! OMGOMGOMG! A hot brownie in a pie crust! The turkey sandwiches were great and the company even better. Both kids are working retail during the Christmas season so the only time we got to see them was Thursday. I didn’t get anything of note done, beyond getting some preliminary set-up work on the NRCA done. *stares pointedly at a certain witch* I’m still waiting on entries from you, young lady! *waggles the witch finger*
I did finish reading Larissa Ione’s latest book, IMMORTAL RIDER. It was okay. LETHAL RIDER, the next one, doesn’t come out until June. This makes me sad.

My cake recipe doesn’t have expresso, it’s basically chocolate pound cake with sour cream, kaluaha and chocolate chips added. Very easy!

I haven’t started shopping. Home made gifts are a great idea–if I had any talent. I don’t. So…I have to shop and I just hate it. Every year I worry endlessly about not getting the right presents.

No, it’s not just you. I got a real sense that Arik and Limos were sort of a side story as so much of the book focused on Than and Reseph/Pestilence, so I was a bit disappointed, too. I really like Larissa’s voice and the world she’s created but this book felt like a short cut to get from Eternal Rider to Lethal Rider. I hope she doesn’t do the same with Than’s book. That would make me very sad.

Chocolate Kahlua Cake??? YUM! Please share.
Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. Last year the turkey took forever to cook so this year I started it earlier. 7:00 a.m. by 10:00 a.m., it was done.
People weren’t arriving until 1:00…
thankfully it turned out great.

Silver, I”m glad I’m not alone in being disappointed, but I’m getting more and more frustrated lately. It feels like characters are getting short shifted in a quest for some elusive “bigger” book. Sigh.
I’m probably a cranky reader though.

Erika, that’s very frustrating on your turkey! It’s one of the reasons I use a cooking bag–the timing is pretty reliable. Plus it comes out good every time.
Okay here’s the cake recipe for anyone who wants it:
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 16 ounce container sour cream
1/3 cup Kahlua
1/3 cup oil
4 eggs
1 6 to 12 ounce package chocolate chips (I put in half a 12 ounce bag)
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl except the chocolate chips. Once mixed, fold in chocolate chips until blended. Pour in a prepared bundt pan. (I use Pam baking spray that contains flour to prepare the pan)
Bake at 375 for 50 to 60 minutes (mine was done in 45 minutes, I might lower the heat to 350 next time). Be sure to check with toothpick in center to see if it’s done. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. (I melted some canned chocolate frosting, poured it over and sprinkled a few chocolate chips on it).
