Broken Leg Boy saw the surgeon at this week. The really good news is that the bone is healing. The risk was the bone collapsing and that didn’t happen. We’re very pleased.
The bad news we already knew. This is a very bad fracture of the tibia bone up into the knee joint. The surgeon said it’s going to take about nine months for the leg to return to “normal.” So now he starts with touching the foot to the ground and working up for there. He’ll also go to physical therapy. And then we’ll see what happens.
Now just for fun, this is the conversation I have had with BLB today this week:
“Hey, BLB, I need to know what you want for your birthday?”
“Can I have a puppy?”
I’m looking at him wondering when my adult son turned into a little boy. “You can’t have a puppy, you live with Bailey.”
“The puppy can live here with you.”
“Wait,” I”m totally suspicious now. “Who will pay for the puppy food, the shots, all the expenses?”
BLB looks me right in the eye. “You.”
I’m catching on now. “Who takes care of this puppy? Cleans up after it? Takes it to the vet?”
Still looking at me without flinching. “You.”
“But it’s your puppy?”
“Yes,” BLB says with total confidence.
“How does that work? I do all the hard stuff. What do you do?”
Grinning, he announces, “I’ll play with the puppy while I”m living here.”
Me, “Really?”
BLB nods, sure he can convince me.
“Okay. Let me see you get down on the floor right now. Prove to me you can play with the puppy. I”l hold your crutches for you.”
The grin on his face died. “You’re mean.”
Me laughing. “No puppy for you.”
Ha! Once a mom, always a mom!

Oh my was that funny! Can you imagine when Bailey would come to see “his” boy and there is a new puppy in the house. Oh NO – that would not be good.
My guys are always trying to get me to get a puppy or get this a Bobcat (no lie). One boy still lives at home but when we had a dog and a cat I was the only one who took care of the animals. Kids – do they ever grow up
It’s so nice to hear that he is healing well. Thank heaven he’s young. I know it’s still a long road to travel but one toe at a time and he’ll be back to normal :).

HAHAHA!!!! Being a mom is great isn’t it! My oldest came and asked me what a wedgie was a couple weeks ago….
I had him turn around and I demonstrated….on him! That’s great that BLB is healing!!! One weight off your shoulders!
On a side note my online instructor let me turn my homework in late with no consequences!

Oh man. Oh ouch. :shudder: BLB has a whole lot of empathy headed his way. Yay that the doctor said he’ll be back to normal even if it will take nine months. And hey, he has his own internal barometer now. =o)
Tell him he can have a puppy after he can walk again. Then when it happens, give him a stuffed animal.

Love it! Being Mom may be a thankless job, but it sure can be fun.
My middle schooler just informed me she wouldn’t have homework tonight because of testing today so I didn’t have to nag her. To which I pleasantly replied, ” So you have made your bed, your room is clean, the dogs’ teeth are brushed, and you’ve thrown in a load of laundry.”
Stomp, stomp “MOMMMM.”
I love teenagers.

Gotta love the mom gene, right!?! LOLOL Poor BLB. Though, I think he was trying to give you an out with Wizard so that you could have a dog.
Wonderful news on his recovery. Besides his youth, he also has determination and spirit on his side, plus a mom, dad, and brothers so totally made of awesome that there’s no way he could fail. And not to mention the healing touch of Bailey Dog.

Viki, a bobcat? Okay that is a new one! I don’t think PeeWee would be pleased at that!
And no, Bailey would not like a puppy. Bailey is getting to be an old man now (hate that!) and he’s thinks my house is his second home. He’d be very unhappy.
BLB is lucky to be young as you said, but old enough that his bones have finished growing. He’s the best age for this kind of traumatic fracture. He’ll get back to his new normal, and be okay. We’ll see if I will survive it

Thanks on BLB. I will be so happy when he can walk again. He’s easy to take care of, but I’m ready to get my life back, and for him to get his life back as well.

Silver, thanks so much. I’m pretty sure we’ve done what most families would, and BLB appreciates it. He’s doing his part too.
One thing we now realize for sure–dropping out of school for this semester was smart. His recovery is taking all his energy and focus. Plus the possibility for more surgery is high.

LOL, I was shuddering over his break. That sounded really painful. Chances are his PT will be fine. A little painful if they have to stretch his unused muscles and tendons – especially if he ends up with something called constriction – but probably not too bad otherwise.
