What’s Everyone Reading?

I’m reading THE SENTINEL MAGE by Emily Gee. I’d never heard of this book (that I can remember) but it came across my desk. I didn’t have high hopes. I’m almost half way in and am pleasantly surprised. It’s different. I guess it’d come under the category of Fantasy, and I’m not sure if there’s a true romance in here or not yet. But I’m enjoying it so far.

So what are you all reading?

I hadn’t heard of SENTINEL MAGE either. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
Right now I’m reading the YA FALLEN IN LOVE by Lauren Kate. It’s a quickie in her angels/demon series. Next up will be SERPENT’S KISS by Thea Harrison. I have such a huge TBR pile that I have way too many choices ;). But I like it that way.

I hadn’t heard of it either, but I just added it to my wish list. Thanks for the heads-up.

Right now, I’m in the middle of Bad Blood by Kristen Painter (the third in her House of Comarre series). It’s a pretty good series. I like Kristen’s take on the vampire world and her near-future setting in general.

Just started the last book of Janet Chapman’s Midnight Bay series. Looking forward to her Spellbound Falls coming out next week. Like Vicki, my TBR pile is very large, so finding something to read is not a problem. Deciding which one to read is :)

Finished Marjorie Lui’s With in the Flames. Part of her Dirk and Steele series. This one was about one of my favorite characters in the series and she did a good job with the story, but I find myself sort of rewriting the book in my head as to how to have brought back or incorportate more of the other characters in the plot.

But there are only two more months till Ram’s story. I may have to go diving into the bargin book bin to make it till then.

Funny how ontopic this seems to be. I just finished Christina Henry’s Black Night and am trying to figure out where to go next. I’m so far behind in my reading. I’ve got Laura Wright’s Eternal Captive, the last two Caris Roane books, Claire Ashgrove’s immortal Hope, Cynthia Garner’s Kiss of the Vampire, and two YA books, Kelley Armstrong’s The Gathering and Brodi Ashton’s Everneath. Eek. And that’s just what I pulled down. Oops, forgot to mention Thea Harrison’s Serpent’s Kiss. Can you tell I’m a compulsive book buyer? I’ll probably go with the Everneath since it has to go back to the middle school library.

I’ll have to look for Sentinal Mage. I’m an equal opportunity genre reader.

Sorry for the improper book title formats. It’s too hard to do it correctly on a mobile device!

I finished Jasper Ffordes THE EYRE AFFAIR over the weekend. It’s sort of a…Hichhiker’s Guide mash-up with Dr. Who with a little Monty Python and Rocky Horror thrown in. I boggled my way through most of it but enjoyed it. It’s SF/Alternative History. At some point, when my TBR pile is threatening to collapse from sheer weight, I’ll read the rest of the series. Currently, I’m on a Harlequin binge–reading Maureen Child’s THE TEMPORARY MRS. KING. I love quick reads that are totally off my writing radar. Until I get the WIP straightened out, no UF/Paranormal for me. :( Well…except for Wing Slayers! ;)

Looks like you have a bunch of book buying addicts here Jen :). I can vouch that I am certainly one!

Viki, me too on the TBR pile! I’m getting through the books I have to read for one reason or another first.

I don’t think I’ve heard of Lauren Kate–will have to look her up.

B.E., the book is longish, and there are parts that could have been trimmed, but interesting non the less.

Kristen Painter is in my pile, I think. I’m just not reading fast enough!

Labrat11, hmm another one I haven’t read (that I can remember). That’s why I love these days when we talk about what we’re reading!

Kat, love that you’re rewriting it in your head! I’ve done that with some books too.

I have Ram’s novella going through reads from a couple other authors for revisions :-)

Julie! LOLOL!!! We do love our books, don’t we? It’s probably smartest to read the book that has to go back first :-) But I so loved reading some of your TBR titles!

Don’t worry about proper titles, or any formatting here. We’re all casual. And I’m the Queen of Typos myself so I can’t throw stones!

Silver, hope you’re loving Maureen’s book!

That’s right, you don’t read the genre you’re writing in.

    How’s the WIP going?

I have to join the huge TBR pile club. I have no clue how many books I have waiting for me to read on my Nook. And more due out next week. Right now I’m reading one I read years ago, BEARING AN HOURGLASS by Piers Anthony. It’s the second of his Incarnations of Immortality series. I read them about… well, let’s just say a long time ago and leave it at that, shall we?

On another note, I made it to the doctor today and got a prescription for antibiotics. Seems to be a respiratory infection. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick it in the @$$ and get it gone soon! Jen, hope you’re feeling better :)

Dawn, ugh on the respiratory infection. Hope you can rest and feel better soon. Sounds miserable.

    I am better, thanks.

It seems we all have that towering TBR pile!

I just finished Marjorie Lui’s first Dirk and Steele, can’t remember the title and I’m too lazy to get up from the computer and go see! I’m with you Kat, it was a good book but I keep changing certain phrases and interactions in my head….I don’t normally do that so I’m not sure why I’m doing it with this book.

Silver- you just blew my mind! I had never heard of Hitchhiker’s Guide until my husband. It’s one of his favorites, I’ve never heard anyone else talk about it either. Just a random moment, ignore me! lol

I’m not sure whether to thank you or curse you for all the book ideas!

Silver, I do have to thank you in particular. I will download THE EYRE AFFAIR immediately. I absolutely adored Hitchhikers. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve re-read it. I find something different to laugh over each time. As for the rest, well, I’m a Sci-FI geek from way back. My husband is contemplating painting a Tartus around the media room door. I stopped counting Time Warps at 100 and as ever… Always look on the bright side of life.
