A Tale of Coffee (and not the stupid, blasted dragons)

Once Broken Leg Boy was mobile enough, I began taking him with me to meet Biker Witch at Starbucks.

BLB has developed a taste for Starbucks that has left a serious dent in my wallet.

Then a couple weeks ago, when we went to BLB’s house to pick up Bailey, BLB vanished into his bedroom. I was chatting with my other son and didn’t pay attention.  A bit later, BLB came out and handed me a STACK of Starbucks gift cards.   “Hey Mom, now we can get Starbucks and use these.”

He had $60.00 bucks worth of gift cards. And he wanted to buy my coffee. I was touched.

Even better? There’s a Starbucks right around the corner from Physical Therapy and we stop there on the way home. Both of us enjoy that.

Last week, BLB ended up with a hot coffee when he wanted a Frappuccino (no idea how to spell that). All the way home, he was channeling his Inner Coffee Snob and blaming Starbucks.  He’s kidding around to get a laugh from me, telling me how he can’t be responsible for his own mistake, it must be Starbucks’s fault.  And then he’s laying out his plan to finish college and open his own coffee shop that will draw away all the customers from Starbucks to his shop.

Then he says, “All the coffee in my shop will be served iced.”  When I didn’t respond fast enough (Hello? Driving here!), he demanded that I ask him why.

Rolling my eyes, I said, “Why?”

“Because revenge is best served cold.”

Sadly, I cracked up.  I also noticed that he drank all the hot coffee that he ordered. Oh and next time we went to Starbucks, he ordered the right drink.

We still have one and a half gift cards left, then I guess I have to start paying again.  But the kid is worth it. Especially since he’s not a REAL coffee snob but just plays one for my entertainment.

And this is my long winded way of NOT talking about the dragon proposal. I’d rather talk about anything else.

What a great story. :) I love the way BLB thinks :). How sweet of BLB to give his gift cards to the cause ;).

I’m a big fan of Caribou coffee. I’m there at least twice a week so I know the dent coffee puts in the wallet. But it’s so good and I don’t shop so I figure it’s my approved vice.

ROFL.. revenge… served cold… Good one, BLB! Ya know, I was thinking about him last night after a song came up on my writing mix – Walk by The Foo Fighters. It reminded me of when I was learning to walk again.

And then, of course, it morphed into ‘learning to write again’. Heh.

I hope you and BLB have fun with Starbucks. They are pricey, but oh so good. =o)

Love It! I’m not a coffee drinker ( I know sacrilege) so I have a long history of making fun of Starbucks. It’s really great that you two can share such “small” things. I’m waiting for those days to return. Right now Mom is simply to be used and/ or tolerated, which is as it should be. And, it does provide such entertainment to purposefully embarrass your teenager!

Kids are great for helping you to not think about things you don’t want to. BLB sense of humor will go along way in helping you both heal.

My kids have seen how stressed out I have been with dealing with their dad’s health that they bought me a toy. It is a Fur Real Freenzie Friend. They got me a mechanical hedgehog.

I don’t have to feed it or clean up after it, but it makes nosies when you press it’s nose and will run around on the floor when you press it’s back. It is so silly and it makes me smile and even giggle at it. I was petting it last night and pressing it’s nose to hear the sounds. My son (12) rolled his eyes his sister (10) laughed. What? -me. Son- Ok mom I am glad we got it for you. Daughter to Brother- See told you so…(big grin).

May be you should look into one for BLB or Yourself for when Bailey is not around. :-P

Viki, that’s how I feel about Starbucks (don’t think we have Caribou out here). I only shop when forced too, and going out to coffee is my vice. Well books too :-)

BLB is evil like his father. Just saying… :-)

B.E., It’s your hip, right? I’m thinking that might be even worse. Once thing is for sure, I have a much deeper appreciation for what you went through now.

Writing, sigh. The truth is that our writing is better when we trust our voice and instincts. But it’s so much easier said than done!

Julie, trust me, it gets better! My oldest son called last night just to talk. And he’s working almost 7 days a week right now as a Tax CPA. Kids grow up and *sometimes* appreciate us. Really :-)

Teenagers make it way too easy to embarrass them!

It’s okay not to like coffee

Kat, that is so sweet of your kids! I love that. And it sounds like a cool toy. I should look into it!

Hope your husband is still improving and you’re getting a break!

Yeah, it’s obvious that BLB has good genes. ;)

I’m with him on the frappuccinos. They’re my favorites.

If you promise not to talk about Penumbra, I promise not to talk about dragons. Deal?

Silver, Girl Scouts Honor–I won’t ask!

I should try a frappaccino sometime, they must be really good.

It’s like a coffee milkshake with whipped cream. And mocha. But ice rather than ice cream. Still thick, rich, and yummy.

Actually it was the femur right below the hip joint, but they had to do a modified hip replacement surgery and put a screw up into my ball joint to hold it all together. I don’t know if that’s worse or better than what BLB went through. Every time I think about his break, I cringe. At least in my case, I was out of my head until well after they put this Humpty-Dumpty back together again.
