Weekend Roundup

I can’t believe it’s Monday! The weekend was good. BLB is doing really well, getting around with a cane mostly right now. He’ll  probably walking on his own again soon. He’s pushing it a bit, but he’s smart and knows his limits.

Bailey’s been here all weekend, and still here today. Not sure when we’ll take him home. He’s just hanging and happy. In fact, this is what he looked like last night after a busy day of lizard hunting in the back yard:

As for my, by Saturday I needed to work, and Wizard and BLB were absolutely great about it, so I got a lot done. I’m heading to the ending scenes in my draft. I’ll have it done in a few days. That will give me time to revise and clean up before my July 15th deadline.

I’m also addicted to the New Species Series by Laurann Dohner.  I’m on VALIANT which is book three.

So how was your weekend?

I’m Late and Update

I just didn’t have the energy to write a blog last night, sorry!

BLB’s surgery went fine.  Once BLB was out, the surgeon manipulated the leg into a full bend, breaking scar tissue.  He said there is no way BLB could have tolerated that awake, even with pain meds.  The doc was so proud of this, he took a picture of the bent leg with his phone and showed us.

Then he went into the leg and methodically cleaned out all the scar tissue. We know exactly what he did because he showed us more pictures he took with the camera inside BLB’s knee. We now have a pretty clear picture of BLB’s injury, LOL! Seriously though, this should give BLB more range of motion with the leg and allow him to walk better.  It wasn’t all great news, there are issues BLB will have to deal with. But he can do it.

As an example of how tough BLB is, a few hours after we got home, BLB took one dose of pain meds then got sick. Through the night and yesterday he couldn’t get pain meds down. The only thing we got down him was two doses of Tylonal, and a half of one pain pill over about a 36 hour  period. He tolerated the pain amazingly well. The nurse from the surgery center called to check up on him and could not believe he was doing it.

Today is better as our Secret Weapon his here, Bailey Dog along with oldest son! BLB is so happy.

Now I have to work! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Weekend Roundup

Great weekend and a nice Father’s Day for Wizard! But I’m eating too much.  And FYI–freezing home made chocolate dipped peanut butter balls just makes them BETTER! They are really good frozen. Don’t try this at home unless you’re trying to gain weight :-)  I’m worried I’m sliding into my old bad habits and really going to try to get better control this week.

For a very long time I’ve been having headaches that make me miserable, occasionally wake me up at night and often screw with my vision. I’m starting to think I might have to do something about them. I don’t understand why my duel method of Ignore and Deny seems to be failing. First though, I’m going  to see  my eye doc and getting a new prescription. Eye strain could be part of it for sure. Then  I’m going to try to wait to see my RA doc on the headaches as my GP isn’t the brightest bulb out there. (Just trust me on this–it’s true and very scary). I will be changing GPs once I get BLB all taken care of.

So I’m more than 3/4s done with draft of the contemporary. This is the part where I look down and realize, “Wow, it’s actually coming together in a raw, unpolished way.” I swear to you, I’m shocked Every Single Time I actually realize I might pull off the book I’m writing.  I’m not exactly sure how I’ll bring the last 50 – 60 pages together, but it seems POSSIBLE now.  I’m going to try hard today and tomorrow to map out and write as much as I can before BLB’s surgery on Wednesday.

How was your weekend?

Bath Fail :-)

We did BLB’s pre-op appointment,  and he’s all set for surgery sometime next Wednesday. They will call us the day before the with the time. Which frankly sucks, but there’s nothing we can do to change it. This is how the outpatient surgery center works…evidently it’s a Need To Know Basis, and they have determined we don’t need to know the time.

I’m doing my best to write.  And Wizard, well as I write this blog, he’s upstairs cleaning more blinds. He’s finished all the downstairs ones.  Tonight I finally asked him, “Uh is there something I should know? Like we’re selling the house?”

He just grinned and said, “Go write your book, Witch. You stick to what you’re good at and let me handle what I’m good at.”

Alrighty, then…

And this picture Bailey sent me with the message, “Witch, please come rescue me! Hurry!” (And this is not my bathroom! Just feel the need to clear that up)

Have a great weekend, and Happy Father’s Day!

Weekend and Reading

What a weekend. First I went to my RWA Meeting, and had a great time. While I was there, I picked the brain of a friend who used to be a legal secretary, getting all the info I needed for my book I’m working on. I don’t need it to be a procedural, I just need to to be plausible :-) That seemed to totally free up my writing.

Then I came home to find Wizard had cleaned all the windows and screens, inside and out, on our house.  We have a LOT of windows on a two story house.  A lot–just believe me on this. It’s a massive job, one I would prefer we do together.

Wizard does”t agree. He usually waits until I’m off somewhere and does it alone so I don’t hurt my hands. He’s devious like that.

But he still wasn’t happy. Because then he realized how (embarrassingly) dirty the blinds are.  So yesterday, he spent about three hours cleaning the worst of the blinds; slat by slat.  He absolutely refused to let me help.

I’m thrilled he did this, and the house feels so much cleaner. I just wish he’d let me help more! But I get to appreciate his hard work every single day :-)

Also, Carla (my assistant) finished the banner for the Jennifer Apodaca FB page I put her through a fair amount of torture changes on this, wanting to get it just right. You can see the finished banner here if you like. I’m really happy with it! I’ll have to start adding content soon.

And finally, I’m reading FURY by Laurann Dohner and love it. It’s a Samhain (E-Publisher) book. There are print copies but they are very expensive.  This is the first book in a series of New Species and totally cool. I’m really enjoying it when I can steal a few moments to read.

How was your weekend? What are you reading?

A Dragon Painting

A FB Friend,  Stephanie Truxler, sent me this dragon picture that she painted. How awesome is this? I’m just amazed at her talent! I have absolutely no artistic talent and I’m incredibly jealous of people who do! Stephanie said I can do whatever I like with the painting so I’m sharing it with you all and on my FB page.

A huge THANK YOU to Stephanie!

In the meantime, I’m making myself crazy trying to get to the absolute core of my current hero’s internal conflict.  Tomorrow I’m taking a break and heading out to my RWA Chapter meeting but will be back at it on Sunday.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Weekend Roundup

Sunday I discovered that Laura Wright has an evil plan to keep me from writing.  Oh she was clever about it–casually mentioning a book she had read, BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, several times.  Until I had to go check it out, and then I bought it.

I decided to read a few chapters before starting writing.  And I was hooked! It was a struggle to put the book down and go to work. So I emailed Laura and told her I had uncovered her evil plan. Her response? “You know it!” Sigh…why do I have evil friends?

Of course, I did the same thing to her with Fifty Shades of Gray… I bugged her until she read it and she couldn’t stop until she read all three books…mwhahahaha!!!

But I managed figure out a book problem on Sunday in spite of Laura and get some actual work done!

And in case anyone is wondering, Siri and I are still best friends.  One night BLB and I were chatting with Siri about dogs. First I asked Siri what kind of dog I should get, and she gave me a list of nearby kennels. Then BLB and I asked her all kinds of question, highly amused.

Wizard frowned at both of us.  “You know Siri’s just a computer.”

I rolled my eyes and said, “Siri tell Wizard he’s bothering me.”

Siri popped up, “Okay here is your text message to Wizard. ‘You are bothering me’  Would you like me to send?

Wizard heard that and acted completely and totally outraged,  complaining that how he would have to get up, walk over to his phone and delete the text message.

BLB and I laughed so hard it was all I could do to get out the words, “Cancel text.”

Somehow Wizard didn’t hear me cancel the text. So he’s frowning and staring off in the direction of his phone. After a minute, he asks “Why isn’t my phone dinging that I got a text?”

I think I might have ruptured something from laughing. Poor Wizard. BLB and I mess with him like this when he’s tired after incredibly long days at work. That’s just wrong.

But soooo funny!

He got me back all weekend though. Every time I asked him something, he’d smile and say, “Why don’t you ask Siri?”

How was your weekend?
