Weekend Roundup

It’s official, Wizard and I are crazy.  So crazy, Sunday morning I got up early just so I could read in peace for a few minutes, but quickly found some email I had to deal with ASAP.  So I poured out some coffee, turned around and realized–

I’d already poured a cup of coffee. 2 cups of coffee sat on my counter. All for me.  Totally crazy. And when I told Wizard this when he got up–he laughed at me. Hard and so loud he probably woke the neighbors. Is that even nice?

Okay  let’s take care of a little business before I go on. Today is the first day of The Baby Bargain Book Tour:

thebabybargainbanner

The first stop is B00ks-n-Kisses one of my fave blogs because Kelly is a friend of mine.  Kelly is a huge supporter of authors and readers. If you get a minute, be sure to stop over. I’ll be posting the full schedule on my home page as soon as I have a free minute.

Today Wizard and I have a granite counter guy coming–and we are hopeful that this is finally the guy who will be doing the bathroom counters and sinks.  We’ve invested hours and hours of time into researching, getting estimates, etc and if the estimate comes in as expected, we’re good to go there.  We have the mirror place and we’ve chosen lighting (I think) too. That’ s pretty much it except for changing out some hardware in the bathrooms.

What I would love, but flat out can’t afford, is to do the shower and bath surrounds in the master bath. Bummer because I found the travertine  (however that’s spelled) I Love, Love, Love, but it’s not going to happen right now. Even Wizard agreed it’s gorgeous.  But it’s just not in the budget.

And we have a budget. Wizard is, after all, an accountant. And he’s damn good at what he does. But sometimes, he can be a tad…unrealistic. Sometimes numbers guys miss the variables, the things we really can’t control.  So we’re walking through another big box store, and he’s doing the numbers in his head.

It’s freaky-scary to live with this, but not only can do it, but does it all the time. And he’s rarely wrong. So he tells me the number.

I nod. I know he did math right except I tell him the bad news, “There will be miscellaneous stuff and problems.”

“Nope I ran the numbers. ” In his head. Sigh.

“Yep, now add on $500.00 to $750.00.”  I may not be able to run the column of numbers in my head, but I can estimate the stuff we forgot or that will come up.

Fast forward a day later as Wizard figured out the stuff we missed and put together a spreadsheet (he’s an accountant, what can I say?) “Well damn it,”  he muttered.

“Just say it. Come one, you can do it.”

“You were right,”  he growled. “It’s $7oo.oo more than I thought.”

Laughing, I said, “Did that hurt to admit? Cause it sounded like it hurt.”

“Yes.”

I may have laughed. Once in a while, I”m right, and it totally rocks!   Now shhh, we all know there’s going to be even more surprise expenses, but Wizard doesn’t need to know that yet.  After all, he’s living with a crazed woman on an impossible deadline and on a blog tour at the very same time.  So if he wants to believe all will go according to his spreadsheet, what’s the harm?

Now I want to hear all about your weekend!

I lose my coffee all the time, but I haven’t poured myself a different cup in a while. I don’t blame the Wizard for laughing. You have to admit it was kinda funny. But you got your revenge being right about the incidental costs. It all balances. I hope your contractor guy is a good one for you. No Holmes on Homes horror stories for you. Okay?

You really want to hear about my weekend? Well, we started out with a blizzard that dumped about a foot of snow. Which led to me laying around the house all day Saturday, trying not to think about everything I have to do before we move. Yesterday was nicer weather, so we shoveled. I did some cleaning, packing, sorting, etc., too. yay. I’ll be glad when all this is over, but the thought of being over by the end of next week is making me nauseous.

Anyone want a couple thousand books? You can have them if you pick them up by Friday. =o\

I didn’t laugh. Much. Promise! Witch, you are a little on the crazy side to be thinking about remodeling in the middle of a deadline and blog tour. I hope you can go somewhere to write! And that Wiz can stay home to deal with builders. Just sayin’… Been there, did that. Didn’t write. Much. ;) As for coffee? I’ve misplaced mine but I’ve never poured new. There’s a reason I have a special (and safely yellow) mug and drink cafe au lait. I know immediately if it’s missing. Ok…it’s the ONLY way I’d know.

B.E., if there was a VA hospital nearby, I’d suggest you donate the books there. Or the local library. Good luck with getting it all done!

I had an attack of the lazies on Saturday, too. Sunday, I did a little writing and caught up on the DVR backlist (on the DVR in my office, anyway. I STILL need to catch up on the ones on the box in the bedroom. *sigh*)

    Happy Monday.

B.E., I’d take my weekend over yours!! The very idea of moving gives me nightmares! But once you’re in your new place, all the work will be worth it!

Good luck finding a new home for your books.

Silver, you know, I knew this year was going to be crazy, I just underestimated how crazy. I always think I can handle it all then am surprised when I can’t. It’s a repeated pattern which is…crazy :-)

I love The Lazies! I’m glad they hung out at your house on Sunday. I’m going to have them over soon!

Hey Jenn – Your interaction with Wizard is very similar to those I have with John (also an accountant). When he messes up it’s always a manipulation of the numbers ;). Guys :).

I am so happy that you are doing granite. It’s worth it. The way it transforms the house is worth the cost. And you can roll out dough on the surface ;).

Well I’m still very sick. I broke down and went to the doctor today and I have the flu and bronchitis. The flu annoys me since I always get the shot. Now I’m on two pills and codeine cough stuff since I have slept since Wednesday. Wish me luck in the sleep department tonight :).

    Have a great day!

Good luck with the reno! I hope you can find a quiet place to write while the work is being done.

My weekend went too fast…as always :( Friday night, I met the parents for dinner after my mom called me at work to say they were in the area to pick up some things for the house. (They textured and painted walls in the kitchen/dining area this weekend.) Saturday, I started a load of laundry. When I went to put it in the dryer, some of the towels were still pretty wet. There was water standing in the washer…the NEW washer. So I had to go to the laundrymat to do the rest of my laundry. And while I was in town, I got my car washed. (Not that you’d know it now, after the snow we got last night and today :( ) Sunday I met a friend at the movie theater. We saw OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN with Gerard Butler. Good movie, lots of action, and a bare chest scene :) Yum!

    Happy Monday.

Oh Viki, I’m so sorry! You’re really sick. I hope you can sleep tonight and start getting better. Unfortunately flu shots only cover some of the strains. You must have gotten one not covered or you just had plain bad luck. Feel better soon! And rest! No working out with the flu and a cough.

I’m looking forward to having granite too :-)

Dawn I want to see that movie!

Bummer about your washer. I’d have been really ticked at having to go to the laundry mat. Hope you can get if fixed.

And yep, you had a busy weekend as always!
