Wednesday Worthy

Happy Veteran’s Day for those here in the States. A big shout out to all who have served!

Yesterday was my last paid promo in my plan to re-release the Wing Slayer Hunters. It went well. As I’m writing this before 5pm, Blood Magic is #3 overall on Amazon. Now we will see if the series sinks or swims. (And really, I will do one big blog post on my strategy, I just need  a couple weeks to grab all the data to give you guys some concrete results.)

Now for Wing Slayer Worthy Candidate — I pulled out an old one that years ago I thought represented Phoenix.

So what do you think? Is he still  worthy? (I’m not so sure, isn’t it amazing how our taste changes?)

Weekend Roundup

Trivia Question for you all: What happens when a CPA decides to play soccer?  Answer at bottom of this blog :-)

So this weekend was excellent!  Wizard and I went to Las Brisas in Laguna Beach for our anniversary dinner. We got a table with a beautiful view of the sunset over the ocean and really enjoyed our evening. I had an apple martini, which I haven’t had in years.  It was a lovely night.  On Saturday I went to lunch with a friend and ended up in a kitchen store. Once in there, we came up with the idea of taking a cooking class together. I’m not sure when we’ll be able to do it, but I’m really excited. I need to do something different and get out of my head a little bit. And we both enjoy cooking. So I had another great day.

Then I came home and found out what happens when a CPA plays soccer…but more on that later :-)

So then Youngest Son and Girlfriend came by with Roxy, she is Girlfriend’s dog who they recently discovered has cancer. But Roxy is doing AWESOME. She’s getting treatment and is already in remission. She looked fantastic and charmed both Wizard and me with her sweet playfulness, and wanting to cuddle.  She lays her head on my shoulder to cuddle :-)

Then Middle Son and his girlfriend have decided to have Thanksgiving and I’m thrilled and excited about that. This is the first time they are hosting a family holiday.  It’s going to be awesome. Plus of course, Bailey will be there.

And Sunday, I wrote my first almost effortless pages in this book. And by book…I mean a ton of pages on stuff that I need to know about the character and plot but will never get into the actual finished book. So once I looked down and realized I’d written a chunk of pages and done well, I stopped and walked away to relax. That way when I go back to it today, I’ll be fresh and excited to keep going!

Seriously a great weekend, except…

CPA Boy (oldest son) is okay. He and Special K play on an adult soccer team, he took a tumble and fractured the wrist of his dominant hand. It looks like it’s a small fracture according to Urgent Care. He’ll get the final verdict once he sees an orthopedic this week. Right now, the wrist and thumb are immobilized in a splint, his pain is mild and everything is fine that than he’s bored and annoyed at being limited to one hand. CPA is also a serious weight lifter and even more serious about his job, so that’s frustrating for him, but he’ll heal and be fine.

So now you know what happens when a CPA tries to be a weekend warrior on the soccer field :-)

How was your weekend?

Happy Friday!

I’ve been really looking forward tonight. It’s our anniversary and Wizard is taking me to a restaurant on the beach. He’s been there for work, but I haven’t and he’s been planning this for a couple of weeks. Showing me the menus from several places until he decided this is the one.

I love that about him (along with a million other things). He’s always been the guy who will plan something, pick up a phone and make a reservation. No matter how it turns out, it’s special because he tried. I don’t care about gifts, this is what matters to me — that he cares enough to make the effort even after all these years. When I think back to how young I was; 18 when I met him, and 20 when we married, I am vividly aware that we are lucky. Wizard is truly the love of my life. It’s not always perfect or easy, but it’s real and I can count on him every single day.

And then Saturday I get to see a friend for lunch so I’m doubly happy!

On the writing front, I’m feeling my way around the new book (not ready to talk about it–you all know how crazy my process is), and juggling some promotion for the Wing Slayer Series which is going really well.

So what are your weekend plans?

Wednesday Worthy: Who Rides It Better?

It’s cooler here in Southern California! And we’ve had a little rain! Yay!!

I set Blood Magic free and ran a promotion yesterday at Freebooksy. It totally exceeded my expectations with well over 2300 downloads at 7pm last night and it also broke into the top 100 ranking at Amazon. Honestly I expected less than half that many downloads.

So why did it happen?

While the ads and paid promo help, I honestly think this momentum started when I set the book free, announced in on Saturday on Facebook and readers began spreading the word like wildfire. I believe readers and fans really set this off, and I want to say a huge THANK YOU!! If this series takes off, it’s truly because you guys have been spreading the word and I appreciate it.

Of course, these “sales” are free downloads and essentially loss leaders for me. The hope is that once people read Blood Magic, they will get hooked, want to read the rest of the Wing Slayer Hunter’s stories and buy them. Only time will tell. As I said before, once I’m done with this promotional period and I have enough data, I’ll do one comprehensive blog outlining what I did in promotion and strategy, give you some numbers, tell you what I think worked and didn’t work.

Now let’s move on! Because Phoenix in Night Magic rides a motorcycle, let’s change Wednesday Worthy up a bit with Who Rides It Better?

Guy #1

Athletically fit caucasian man sitting shirtless on a black motor bike

Guy #2

Sexy young fit male model on motorcycle outdoors at dawn

So who do you think rides it better?

Re-Release of Night Magic!

The big news of the day: Night Magic is here! I loved writing this book. Phoenix is a total bad boy with a huge heart (even if he doesn’t know it) and I adored Ailish, the blind witch who fought so hard to atone for a choice she made as a 16 year old girl.

My weekend was pretty good. Halloween was fun with lots of kids. But we do have some leftover candy which I’m trying to ignore :-)
