Weekend Roundup

My weekend was not interesting at all. I cleaned, did some writing and dealt with a small stomach issue. But I’m back here on the blog :-)

After a herculean effort, I have this novella started, and at least partially plotted. This  latest writing snafu is 100% my fault. I want to blame it on stress and worry and all the usual things but the truth is a little more embarrassing: Arrogance. I was so sure I could do this that I didn’t do the pre-work necessary to write this novella. I believed I knew Ethan and Ana, who were secondary characters in The Plus One Chronicles.

I forgot ( and this is such an amateur mistake) that I knew Ethan and Ana from KAT AND SLOANE’S point of view, not their own! So for instance, Sloane is seven or eight years older than Ethan, and comes for a background just as dark and difficult. To him, Ethan’s “a kid” who needs his guidance, and in Sloane’s world Ethan is normal. But Ethan’s view of himself is entirely different, which is what is important for this story. His self view will influence every decision he makes. The same thing with Ana. So I needed to really discover who these characters are in their own minds and to each other.

Amateur mistake born of arrogance. I’m not proud of it, but there it is!

And also, I have major trouble spelling amateur and give spellcheck a migraine :-)

Now it’s your turn! How was your weekend?

I have a Stormageddon story. My grandmother name is “Jammie.” Long story, not going there. His mom has started working with the catchers on his dad’s 14U baseball team. As she was an NAIA All-American, smart idea! We keep him on Wednesday evenings during indoor practice because Mom works late. Since only is not coaching the outdoor session on Saturdays, we keep him for a few hours and then meet his parents for lunch. So, they show up Saturday. I lift the garage door and head out. Only has the back door open getting Storm out of his carseat, but she’s wiping tears. I’m like, WTH? Then she says, laughing: The door started up and Storm put his hand over his heart and sighs out, “Oh, Jammie!”

I’m also “My Jammie” and he’s pushed other little kids away from me.

I did critiques all weekend. Line edits on CONVENIENT COWGIRL BRIDE today/tomorrow. Then I can write again. Yay.

Yeah, those pesky characters wanting to have their own viewpoints and stuff. What’s up with them?!?! ;) Glad you figured things out. The story will smooth out now. And look at it this way–by knowing Ethan and Ana through Sloane and Kat’s POVs, you ARE a step ahead. You know how they are perceived by others, which should make for some interesting arguments with them.

    Have a great week!

Gah! I need more coffee. There’s a “not” in my previous comment that should be a “now”–otherwise that whole rambling paragraph makes no sense. *headdesk*

Silver, I love that story!! Even with the extra “not” which I figured out easily enough. No worries! Jammie is a cute grandma name too.

I’m looking forward to CONVENIENT COWBOY BRIDE!

It’s true that I was ahead in that sense. I really do need time to “gestate an idea” and I never work that into my schedule like I should. But that’s a business Monday post I’d like to develop one day way in the future.

Oh man. I haven’t run into that problem yet. Sounds like a doozie. I’m glad you got it figured out – even if it was a pain in your buns. :hugs:

The weekend here was quiet. I did some yard work yesterday that had me a little sore this morning – which is why I’m late commenting. Again LOL. I got my new computer on Friday, so I spent a bunch of time setting it up. Other than that? It’s all a blur.

When I read this all I could think was, what a good writer you are that you caught this mistake, owned it, and corrected it. You tend to beat yourself up but man it takes a strong person to admit any type of mistake. I’m really happy you caught this but now Ana and Ethan are going to have fun with you ;). We know you’re up to it :).

My weekend was kind of slow. Nothing exciting, that can be a good thing ;).

    Have a great afternoon!

B.E., congrats on your new computer! I saw it on FB over the weekend. Getting it set up and everything transferred can be a pain, but once it’s done, it’s so worth it! I’m happy for you!

The problem really was my fault. But I’m working away now, and hopefully get a good solid chunk done before edits for Savaged Dreams show up.

Hope your soreness eases. You also had the shoulder spasm right? How’s that?

Viki, thank you for such a lovely comment! I really am to blame and I’m too old to deny it, LOL! I think confidence is awesome, but arrogance is a definite flaw, and one i detest. so finding it myself is not fun.

A slow weekend can be a good thing. Hope you have a fun week!
