Weekend Roundup

Today is the day in the U.S. that we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

To all those who have lost loved ones, I thank you too. Your sacrifice matters, and your beloved soldier’s life may have been short, but the impact he or she had is felt and appreciated for generations.

So my weekend was good. My middle son had a big birthday and while we celebrated last weekend, I thought of him (and called him). If you all saw my FB post, then you saw that Youngest Son (BLB) went to watch Bailey while Middle Son and his girlfriend (otherwise known as our Wine Broker–a story for another time) went on a trip. But if you missed it, here’s the short recap: I texted BLB and asked if Bailey missed me. Here’s what I got back:

Bailey sticking his tongue out

Gee, I don’t know where that boy (Youngest,  not Bailey) gets his sarcastic funny streak. Or how he got Bailey to make that face–it’s priceless!

Today Wizard and I are going to the gym, I’ll write a bit then we’ll hang out in the hot tub and cook some lobster. We have been eating very well this weekend and totally enjoying it. I’m trying to stay “within reason” of my Weight Watcher points, but not really worrying about it.

As for my novella–this short book has me hooked and rewriting like a fiend. I honestly NEED to set it aside to work on the revision of Savaged Dreams, but I just can’t yet. It’s my special brand of crazy.

So how was your weekend and what are your plans for today?

Happy Friday!

Six happy things:

  1. Yesterday I played hooky.
  2. I had lunch with Biker Witch (my sister) and had a great time!
  3. I bought myself  a shirt that says: WEEKENDS ARE FOR WINE  (Duh, what else would they be for?).
  4. I got a chance to read for a little while (see #1).
  5. My hip is soooo much better! It took a few days, and I had to lay off the gym, but it’s mostly a mild twinge now and I  can probably go back to the gym today…or Monday :-)
  6. I figured out why I keep getting just past the halfway mark in my novella and coming a screeching halt, unable to get past this one point in the book. It means I need to revise one plot thread, but it’s a relief to just toss out the portion that’s not working. It’s actually really freeing. Plus my hero and heroine seem to be working well with each other, this was more of an external plot which is a little easier to fix than a real problem with a character.

And did I mention I played hooky yesterday? I rarely ever do that. But playing hooky is good for creativity and giving my subconscious a little space to work things out.

Okay your turn! Tell me something that makes you happy, and if you have any big plans for the weekend.

Wednesday Worthy Cage Fight!

Sorry for the late post.It didn’t go up as scheduled for some reason.

It’s hump day and time to stir up a little trouble. So I tossed these two fighters in the cage:

Who do you think will win? The fighter on the left? Or the right?

Weekend Roundup

Great weekend! Well except that I somehow hurt my hip–maybe cleaning bathrooms? It doesn’t matter–Saturday we were celebrating Middle Son’s birthday and nothing was going to stop me :-) We all have busy lives and getting together is a joy we all value too much for little things to get in the way. We hit the wineries up in the hills and had lunch on the patio of the first one. It was gorgeous, overlooking the grapevines. But the best part was a French bulldog named Penny. She was a friendly sweetheart who loved playing ball.

At the second winery, we did a small tasting, then most of us headed outside on another patio while Middle Son and his girlfriend stayed inside to buy some wines. I mentioned to CPA boy I wanted chocolate. He went in and bought my favorite and his wife’s favorite. I love that! So we all shared the two chocolate bars, and left one piece for Middle Son and his girlfriend. I’m not proud of that, but people, it was chocolate :-) And of course, we gave that last piece to Middles Son’s girlfriend.

So…to sum up; it was Middle Son’s birthday and he didn’t get any chocolate. Hmm…we might suck just a little bit, LOL! But he had his favorite cake at home that I’d made for him. Besides, he didn’t care. If he did, I’d have bought him chocolate.

Of course he might have still been a bit shocked that CPA Boy saw him coming out of the winery, raced across the patio and lifted him up in hug, shouting out, “Happy birthday baby bro,” and doing his best to embarrass his brother. These are adults professional men…but you’d never know it when we get together. And also why I love writing about guys–they have such an interesting way of showing affection :-)

Back at home, Middle Son’s girlfriend cooked delicious chicken and beef fajitas, we ate and had a blast. By the time everyone left late that night, I was limping and mildly concerned about my hip. However I slept something like six hours straight (trust me, that’s a lot for me) and got up with barely any pain at all.

Sunday I was back wrestling in the mud with my book.

So that’s my weekend, how was yours?

Happy Friday

Happy Friday! What’s everyone reading??? I’ve bought a lot of books but haven’t read many of them due to my death battle with my current WIP (Work In Progress). However one that I started on a whim during a bout of insomnia I ended up really enjoying–STUCK UP SUIT by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. I’ve been meaning to read Vi Keeland for a while and just hadn’t gotten around to it. I wasn’t wowed by the title, but the book kept my interest.

The audio book I’m listening too at the moment is ME BEFORE YOU by JoJo Moyes. I only listen to these while working out, so it takes me a long time to get into a book, but so far, I really like this one. I find myself thinking about the book a lot when I’m not listening to it, so that’s always a good sign.

I don’t want to talk about writing today :-)

This weekend we’re celebrating Middle Son’s birthday. It should be fun! The plan is to head to a local town for lunch and wine tasting, then back to my house for dinner, cake and maybe the hot tub. I’m really looking forward to it (A Whole Day Off!!) So what are your plans? Whatever it is, I hope you have a great weekend!

Wednesday Worthy

It’s Wednesday! Yesterday, Wizard and I went grocery shopping, then he planned to take off for the day. Awesome that meant I had all day to work uninterrupted! But first I’ll write up a quick blurb for Ethan and Ana’s novella to put in my newsletter… Mwhahaha!! I may have been a little too optimistic. It took my all freaking morning to get a rough draft of the blurb.

After lunch, I tried to come up with a title. I thought and thought and thought some more.

Then I took a dinner break:

Jen's dinner break

Yep it’s a candid shot of me raw and untouched. But the wine looks good, right? :-)

And I still don’t have a freaking title as I’m typing this blog. Who wants to bet I think of one about 1:42 am? Hmm…? Anyone?

All righty then…let’s move onto Wednesday Worthy. I don’t know what the deal is with this guy and his towel–is he having a bad hair day? A head cold? Well I’ll let you all be the judge:

So what do you think? Is he worthy?

Weekend Roundup

Working, working and working! I’m torn between finishing Ethan and Ana’s novella-with-no-name and digging into the revision on my beloved Savaged Dreams. I love too many books, LOL! Plus Ethan and Ana just tossed a sexual curveball in my lap and that thing is almost too hot for me to handle. But if this is what they need, I’ll grab some oven mitts and get to work. But all I want to say on that is this is the point in the book where I lose all control and the characters have taken over. Which is my way of trying lay all blame on Ethan and Ana…I’m totally innocent :-)

So my weekend: Friday was nice, Wizard and I had fun at the movies, although I don’t think Money Monster was that spectacular. But since I had no expectations, I enjoyed it well enough.

As for the weekend, I chose to skip my RWA Chapter meeting on Saturday in favor of seeing Biker Witch on Sunday (you know, limited time with trying to write multiple books) and then on Sunday Biker Witch didn’t feel well so we ended up not going to lunch. It figures, LOL! I should have gone to my meeting instead of trying to budget my time so efficiently.

To top it all off, early Sunday morning I was woken by loud trucks on our street–turned out to be fire trucks and paramedics. I was worried that something happened to my next door neighbor or his young granddaughter. So I’m stumbling around at four in the morning trying to figure out if I should get dressed and see if I could help (maybe babysitting or something). Finally I realize the emergency crews are at a house father down the street and it doesn’t appear to be a serious emergency after all. Sigh…I was up for the day.

So that was my weekend. How was yours?
