Weekend Roundup

My weekend was awesome! Each of my kids either came over and spent time or called and talked (that was middle son who was out-of-town, but made time to call which made my day even better) It was all lovely and a perfect way for me to de-stress. I won’t go on and on (trust me, I can passionately talk about my kids and their amazing wife/girlfriends for hours). But I will mention that these Hot Fudge Cheesecake Brownies–

–are KILLER GOOD and so rich they might just be deadly. Part of my Mother’s Day weekend was to take time off from writing on Saturday to test this recipe. It’s something I enjoy doing, I blast my Pod in my kitchen and bake. It’s really my happy place. Anyway, they came out soooo good! The only adjustment to the recipe I made was for the 3/4’s cup cocoa– I used a 1/2 cup regular Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa, and a 1/4 cup Hershey’s special dark unsweetened cocoa. I think it added a nice depth to the brownie portion of the treat. But you have to be a die-hard chocolate lover to enjoy this brownies. I begged Wizard to let me toss them yesterday to get the remainder out of the house, but he couldn’t bear to part with them. So after my totally indulgent weekend, I now must go back to practicing self-control :-(  Today I’m resuming my Weight Watcher’s program.

So an interesting thing happened as I spent a good portion of the weekend NOT thinking about the novella…I had great ideas to really develop and push my characters and create more tension in the plot. This almost always happens in this exact fashion. I do all the hard work developing the characters and plot, spend energy writing and rewriting, then for some reason step away. And it all begins to gel in my head. I still have work to do but it’s so much more fun now!

And lastly, my visit to the Social Security office Friday went fine and I should have my verification this week that the simple correction was put through (Fingers crossed on that!)  I had originally told Wizard not to go with me, but then he mapped where this office was located, and said, “I’m going.” As it turned out, he was right. Not an area I’d want to be alone in. So another point for Wizard, LOL.

Okay now I want to hear how YOUR weekend was!

Yay for all your kids getting in touch with you this weekend. Naturally, cuz you’re an awesome mom for them. OMG, those brownies look totally decadent. But no. Yay for working out writerly things on your time off. Ain’t that just the way? And yay for Wizardly protection in a bad part of town. Good job, Wizard!

We finished cleaning Saturday morning and then drove to the airport and picked up the Kid for her first visit to our house since we moved here. I took her shopping yesterday and we spent the rest of the time just hanging out. Storms today will curtail any sightseeing, but that’s okay – we’ve already seen the most important stuff, each other. =o)

Wiz is a true hero and you have awesome kids! WooHoo on the story gelling. I love when a plan comes together!! :-D

Murphy’s Law needs to be repealed. It was in full force and effect this weekend. :( Ah well. Except Adidas Cat is MIA. She escaped yesterday afternoon and despite lots of searching, a few false alarms (neighborhood cat with similar coloring), there’s been no sign of her. I had a flat tire on Mother’s Day, granddog sat Fri-Sun so the kids could have a family weekend at a medieval fair, but I did figure out the kinks my HQ team were concerned about with some new twists/consolidations for the next RDR book. I need to get the first two chapter rewritten and run them by Mr. Ed. I think he’ll like the new direction.

We might have weather today–dark and gloomy outside and feeling pretty gloomy inside because no cat. :-| I’m distracted looking out the window for her but really have to get this writing done. June 14th is looming. :-?

B.E., I was thinking of you on Saturday since I knew your kid was arriving. It’s wonderful you get to spend time with her. I bet she loves the house! And who cares what the weather is outside, you have all you need right now inside :-) Have a great week!!!

I am so glad Wizard went along with you on Friday. You never know what “could” happen no matter the neighborhood. Good hubby :).

Those brownies sound so good. I would have frozen some to nibble on when needed :). My pie went over well but I really wanted the Kahlua mocha one. I’m just going to have to stand firm next time I need a pie ;).

Good to hear the boys were present and accounted for for Mother’s Day. Mine were too :). I got the phone call and two were here. My youngest gave me that dragon wine bottle holder :).

I hope you have a really great afternoon!

Silver, I’m having some kind of in cyber-gremlin that won’t post me reply to you. Hope it works this time!

I’m so sorry you’re kitty escaped. You must be very worried and I don’t know how you’re getting any word done. I’m hoping your kitty has been found or come home on her own. I wish there was something I could do to help.

At least you had the one bright spot of finding a solution to the HQ team concerns. You are doing so well there!

Viki, you deserve you Kahlua Mocha Pie!

Duh, I should have frozen some of the brownies. I didn’t even think about it. I did send some home with one boy who will probably take them to work. I’m being good today. The weekend was enough :-)

I’m happy your boys all remembered you too. And the dragon wine bottle holder sounds perfect!
