Weekend Roundup

It was a busy weekend! First, no sign of our Gopher! It looks like after a week of an intense battle, Wizard may have won!

Saturday we had a great time going to lunch and wine tasting. It’s beautiful out there in the Temecula Wine Country. We came home with three bottles of wine that we’ll admire but be too cheap to actually drink unless there’s a super special occasion :-)

Sunday was a mixed bag. I had a good writing day and made really solid progress on the novella revision. I feel pretty positive right now (but wait ten minutes, that could change, LOL). In between writing, I made these donuts:

The donuts were baked not fried, and came out a little dry. I can adjust the recipe and baking temp and time to compensate for that. And next time, instead of the glaze and crumb topping, I think I’ll use a chocolate ganache. The crumb topping just adds dryness, so it works better on a fried donut.

The minor blip on the weekend was Sunday morning when I decided to make a quick trip to Target and the driver’s side mirror on my car broke. As I made a left turn, the darn thing just snapped and started swiveling back and forth at will. What’s even more frustrating is this happened on the passenger side of the car two months ago, on the very morning we were leaving for the RWA Conference in San Diego. So I know EXACTLY how much it’s going to cost to fix and it’s not cheap. At that time, we didn’t have time to mess with it, so we just dropped it off at our trusted repair place to fix while we were gone.

This time, Wizard may attempt to repair it himself using YouTube Experts as a guide. Fingers crossed that it works! But I can’t really complain too much, the car is seven years old and stuff breaks.

So how was your weekend?

Yay for a cessation of hostilities in the Gopher war! Here’s hoping they’ve waved a little white flag. Yay for wine and writing progress! (Heh, the Days of Wine and Writing Progress.) Bummer about the dry donuts. Dang. They looked good, too. Total bummer about the mirrors on your car. Fingers crossed for Wizard fixing it.

The weekend was pretty good here. Did some writing – got started on the 4th genie book. Did some reading. Watched a ton of football and my college teams actually won. Life is good.

Wow…sounds like there should be a recall on those mirrors! That sucks. Cake donuts should just be brownies. What’s Wiz gonna do now that the gopher may or may not be vanquished?

Half my teams won this weekend – O State and the Cards. Oh, and Baseball Boy’s new high school football team won. We went to the game for Stormageddon watch duty and had fun. LG’s truck went on the fritz and is in the repair shop today getting $500 worth of alternator and belts. :(

I’m behind on the two short stories I’m doing for a dystopian anthology. Worse than pulling teeth. I will persevere! Just as soon as I get off the internet. :P

B.E., I had fun making the donuts so it’s fine. I do that just to give my mind a break when I’m working.

Love The Days of Wine and Writing Progress :-)

Yay on your teams winning and getting a start on the new book!

Silver, could be on the mirrors. But the car is a 2009, so stuff can happen. the first time we though someone probably walked into it in a parking lot and it broke free while I was driving. But the second time on the opposite sound two months later sounds more like a defect or wear issue. And there’s absolutely no damage to the mirror or casing so…shrug. Crap happens.

You had a very busy weekend! So sorry about LG’s truck. $500.00 is the number we’re looking at too, so I feel your pain. But yay for Baseball Boy’s HS football team winning and half your college teams.

Ugh on the pulling teeth to get the book started. Hope inspiration gets off her butt and pays you a visit!

Sounds like a lovely day on Saturday. We’d do the same thing if we bought good bottles of wine. In fact, I’d most likely put one in my dragon wine bottle holder on the buffet so I could look at it every night during dinner ;). What kind of wine did you buy?

Oh crud! The aggravation of our cars and the little mishaps here and there. It’s amazing how expensive something that looks so little ends of being. I hope Wizard is able to fix the mirror and save you two some money.

Glad to hear that your furry buddy seems to have left and taken up at someone else’s house ;).

The doughnuts look good. I’m sure you will be able to tweek the recipe to get them moist.

Our trip to NY was quick and as expected. It was nice to see some family and to go to the little village I grew up in Saturday morning. Had breakfast while looking out on to the Niagara river and the mouth of Lake Ontario with Fort Niagara and Fort George (Canada) standing tall :). Our server was a girl I went from Kindergarten through HS with and neither of us new the other :). Guess that’s what happens when you are gone for 32 years.

    Have a fantastic evening!

Viki, we got two white wines, a chardonnay and grace note, then one of my favorites, a red Zinfandel. I normally prefer reds but it’s fun to try things.

Wizard hasn’t tackled the mirror yet, but there’s a fair chance the fix will work for awhile. If not, we’ll have it done and get over it.

That’s so odd that you were served by a girl you went to school with! How did the two of you realize it? I’m so glad you got to go back there and visit, but it sounds likeyou need more time next trip.

Hope you have a good evening too!
