Weekend Roundup

My website is back online, and on a new server. If this blog posts as it should, then all should be back to normal. However we lost all the comments on Friday’s post, I’m sorry about that, it just couldn’t be avoided. We really needed to move servers.

So my weekend was good. Wizard continues to heal and do a little more each day. Honestly, he’s doing so well, I sometimes hug him and forget, touching him in the wrong place. Things are pretty getting easier for me, and I’m really trying to focus on writing when I can. I’m working back and forth on a couple scenes, trying to set up the last quarter to third of the book. I’m going to lose two writing days this week–one to visit Baby Slayer (yay!!!), and one to get the facet joint shots in neck cervical spine. Although I might get a few hours work in before I go in for the shots, and that would really help. Well I might lose Friday if I’m sore, but I’m betting I can do at least an hour or two though–just enough to stay in the story.

Wizard and I couldn’t see Baby Slayer this weekend so we Skyped with him. That’s right, we Skyped with a baby, LOLOL!!! Yeah, it’s pretty hilarious, but that’s how awesome his mom is. She encourages Baby Slayer to have strong family relationships, and spends time making sure it happens with little things like a ten minute Skype (plus we chatted with her too). So what about Baby Slayer’s dad???? He stuck his head in the video and said, “Hi Mom, remember me, your son?” I had to reassure him I still love him :-)  My kids crack me up.

Also, Youngest son and Fiance came over. Fiance’s mom made Wizard a delicious cake using sherry, and she made some incredible homemade skin products for me. So that turned out to be a win-win for me since I got cake and skin products. Wizard can’t possibly eat the cake by himself, and he’s not really into body scrubs and face serum :-) By the way, that cake was amazing, it tasted a little like moist spice cake.

If I had any pride, I wouldn’t mention the oatmeal butterscotch cookies I made this weekend. Wizard is an enabler!! But I can stop all this baking anytime, people, I have willpower. Or maybe I can bake myself some willpower??? (FYI–I froze a lot of the cookies and cake.)

How was your weekend?

Wow! You had a real week last week, according to your Friday Five. I didn’t comment because it kept coming up an error. Scary about the boys! And yay for the light bulb moment. Slow and steady is not bad on the recovery–for you OR Wiz!

All I’ve got going on is deadlines. Way more than is probably good for me. The Kindle World deal has left all of us participants scrambling.

I love seeing pics of Baby Slayer. Such a cutie pie! And lets not talk about food, okay?

Not much going on in my world besides deadlines. The KW closures have left all us participants screambling. And on that note, I need to get back to it! Give Maggie, BS, and Wiz hugs! And a virtual hug to you!

Silver, I saw that on KW! So sorry for all involved. It’s having the rug pulled out from under you :-( Everything is in an upheaval in the self publishing world right now. I can’t believe the crap being pulled, creating reactive rules…and well you know. Sigh. Cheaters and scammers are fucktards that ruin every damned thing for hardworking people. Sorry, it’s rude, but acruare.

Yeah the week was pretty crazy. Wiz and I were both a little shaken by how close our kids were to a seriously disturbed person bent on harm. But I’ll say it again–the police were heroes. They are heroes all day, every day.

Wiz and I are determined to feel good and positive to the best of our ability. I know you and LG try to the same.

    No food talk!

Hope you can hit deadlines and figure out your Post KW next move. I’m here if you want to talk. Happy Monday!

Isn’t it fun Skyping with the little guy? We’ve done it too and it’s funny watching them watch the phone ;).

Wizard sound’s like he’s coming along great. It must be a thrill to have BLB marrying into such a talented family. I’d love to have skin care products hand made and Wizard’s cake sound – YUM!

I’m sure you’ve heard about the oncotype DX study on chemo and breast cancer. I was an original to have my tumor tested and I did not have chemo. You have to be in early stage cancer and the tumor has to be less than 1 cm. The news people neglect to mention that many still have to have radiation (like me). Insurance refused to pay the cost of the test for me because it was a trial and that was $3500. I hope now that the FDA has come on board it will be paid for by insurance. Most people aren’t as fortunate as we were at the time and can’t afford that huge amount of money.

It’s a beautiful cool (70), not humidity, breezy day here. Loving it :).

    Have a great afternoon!

Viki, it’s a lot of fun to grandbaby skype!

Yes I did see the study, but wow, I didn’t know that insurance (or at least some) refuse to pay for radiation. Yikes, that’s pretty rotten. I’m so sorry you had to pay for all the radiation in addition to your health insurance premiums and your portion of the bills. That’s a big hit when you’re fighting for your health.

What do people do who can’t afford it and don’t qualify for any assistance? That’s terrifying for a significant segment of the population.

I’m glad you have a beautiful cool Monday to enjoy. It’s hot here, but I’m thankful for air conditioning.

    Enjoy your evening!

Jenn – Insurance paid my radiation which was in the tens of thousands of dollars. Thank God. They refused to pay for the oncotype dx test that said chemo would be no benefit to my living. That was 12 years ago. I really hope they cover it now.

Viki, I misread that the first time, sorry. I just went back and reread it, you were very clear in that it was the test that wasn’t covered. I’m sorry that happened to you. My brother in law is currently dealing with cancer (stage 4), and I believe it’s improved somewhat. He’s undergoing a trial treatment, and having good results. Plus I believe a new law was just signed to give patients more access to trial treatments.

While i’m grateful that things are changing, there are a lot of people still fighting for certain kinds of testing, treatments, and medications. Doctors are often frustrated and furious at not being able to get their patients the care they need.

I’m sorry for misreading your original comment, and thank you for clarifying!
