Friday Five

Happy Friday! Okay let’s jump right into 5 random things about my Friday, and then you can tell me your 5 things.

  1. Last weekend at the shower, my youngest son’s fiance’s mom came (the shower was for middle son’s fiance. Having two sons engaged is very confusing!) She’s a lot of fun and easy to be around. But she was telling me that she had been under the impression that I was “sweet and cute” until she had a pool party at her house. That’s when she saw me jump into the pool, and as she said, “Take the boys down.” By boys, she meant my three sons, and I cracked up. Yeah…I’m not exactly known for being timid. Also the pool has been the only place I can dominate the boys in the last decade :-)
  2. Maggie really needs a bath and I didn’t get her in this week. Now it’s a holiday weekend, so we’ll have to wait until next week.
  3. I’m making broccoli beef for dinner (actually when you read this, it will be last night’s dinner since I wrote this Thursday afternoon).
  4. I had my second opinion on my neck. It was a bit of an ordeal as they sent me to the wrong office. Eventually we were rerouted to the correct office, but it turned into a long day. However, this was the most thorough exam I’ve had. He covered my history, my current symptoms in excruciating detail, did a physical exam, and meticulously went over the MRIs. And the result–he’s making the same recommendation for a two level ACDF (disc removal and fusion) as the first surgeon. He answered every question Wizard and I had. I’ve scheduled some more x-rays, and a follow-up appointment, at which time I’ll make a decision on whether to do the surgery. I’m finally getting over the shock and facing reality. The good news is that we’re getting very consistent advice and recommendations. There’s no perfect answer, all I can do is measure the risks of doing nothing vs doing surgery, and decide what I think has the best chance of allowing me to live the life I want to.
  5. It looks like Baby Slayer and his parents will come out Sunday afternoon or evening and spend the night! I think this might be a little grandparenting test. Do you think Wizard and I will pass?

That’s my Friday 5, not it’s your turn!

**Programming Note: I don’t think I’m going to post on Monday, so I’ll see you all again on Wednesday!

I think you two will pass the grandparenting test with flying colors. Sorry the answer was the same, but at least now you know. And I watched a similar surgery on a Great Dane on Supervet recently. Poor thing was in so much pain before and then was happy and running around when they did the follow-up a couple months later. I know, it’s a dog and not people, but the theory’s the same. Heh, you… timid… I know we only know each other through the internet, but I totally don’t see you as timid. Cute, yeah. Sweet, as long as no one ticks you off. Timid? Hell, no.

    1) I’ve been cramming and jamming getting Unequal ready for my editor. Fingers crossed for another release this year.
    2) I’ve been working on getting two books out in paperback and almost had them all finished right before the big announcement that Createspace was closing. I’m trying not to panic. On the upside, the proof for Sleeping Ugly is gorgeous and I approved it for sale.
    3) Tomorrow is September. How did that happen? I’m supposed to be doing a NaNoWriMo type thing starting tomorrow. :panics a little:
    4) There’s this dog at the local rescue named Snickerdoodle. He’s been there 3 years. I had hoped he got adopted last month because they stopped posting his picture on FB, but no. He was back on FB yesterday. I’d take him, but Kira hates dogs and she’s old and she deserves to live out her retirement years in peace.
    5) I almost brainfarted out on this holiday weekend thing. Have to hit the stores today or be forced to deal with crowds. Might still catch crowds today. Ugh. I hate crowds.

B.E, actually, the comparison of the Great Dane and me probably isn’t that far off in theory, so I fully grasp what you mean. And having two consistent answers does help, especially since they are both highly qualified surgeons. Yeah, I’m not known for being timid, LOL! And we’re going to try to pass are grandparenting overnight test! Now for your five:

    1) Hope the pre-editor edit is going well!
    2) I got that email too! I had to go switch some stuff to get ready books to move…whenever that happens. The timing really sucks for you :-(
    3) Weren’t we just in January? Sigh…I guess September will arrive whether we’re ready or not.
    4) Three Years??? He deserves a home, but I understand why you can’t get him at this time. I don’t suppose there’s any chance Kira would like this dog? Probably not. I hope he finds a great person to give him a home!
    5) I didn’t realize it was this weekend until Wizard mentioned it this weekend. Hope you were able to beat the crowds!!

Have a great weekend avoiding the crowds!!

    1. Ha – You’re the mom of 3 boys, sweet and cute, seriously ;). That’s so funny.
    2. Poor Maggie. Actually, poor Wizard and you. Smelly dog is not a good thing. Bet bet she’s fine with no bath.
    3. Was dinner yummy? We’re having sloppy joes and corn on the cob.
    4. Having the doctors in agreement must give you a little comfort. It is a big decision and I’m sure you will do what is best for you and your life. I’ve debated sending you a photo of Heather’s X-ray after her neck/spine surgery. After cleaning things up they pretty much fused a few vertebrae with plates and screws.
    5. Baby Slayer sleepover :-D :-D :-D ! You and Wizard will have so much fun and be totally exhausted the next day :-P .

1a. Harrison is walking, sort of. He takes 3 or 4 steps and crashes. He’d do more if his mom would let him out of the fenced in area in the living room ;).
2a. Middle son is working out of The Terminal Tower in Cleveland this past week and from the office window he can see his apartment building 3 suburb cities away. He sent me a photo ;).
3a. Not doing anything for the holiday. Youngest is going hiking in West Virginia, middle son/wife are going to be volunteering cleaning up the beach on Lake Erie in their city, and Harrison’s chillin’ at home.
4a. Caught a glimpse of John McCaine’s mom in Washington today. She’s 106 and looks amazing!
5a. Just bought myself a single serve tea pot and infuser from Tea Forte. It’s cute. Will try it in a few minutes :).

Have a really great Labor Day Weekend and have a blast with Baby Slayer :)!

Viki, you know what it’s like being the mom of three boys :-) You can send me pictures of positive outcomes. I have two weeks until my followup to pretty much decide to go forward. And I sure hope we pass the Grandparents Overnight Challenge, LOL! Now for your 5:

    1) Harrison is walking!! Wow, being premature didn’t slow him down a bit! First time parents really focus on safety, but the second baby, everything changes :-)
    2) Wow, middle has a super clear view from his office!
    3) Maybe you and Hubs can do something with just the two of you? Wizard and I weren’t planning anything for the holiday until CPA Boy called with the overnight visit plan.
    4) I saw John McCaine’s mom too and was amazed! I also feel for her, and sincerely hope that his full and heroic life helps her now.
    5) Hope you enjoy your new teapot and infuser!

    Have a great three-day weekend!
