Weekend Roundup

Saturday, Youngest Son came by and stayed most of the day. He wanted to know more about my surgery, and I thought maybe he had reservations, which I would have listened to. However he was very supportive and encouraging. He wants me to do it,  get through the recovery and return to a healthier, more active life. Since he’s my most methodical son, and least likely to jump into anything, I was very relieved. He’d clearly done his own research too, which was also nice to know. In addition to all that, Youngest took us up into the burned out hills in his Jeep. I walk in there everyday, but he went deeper than I go, and this is the first time Wizard was able to see it way back there at all. We got an up close view of isolated homes and ranches that were saved by firefighters. I know I’ve said it dozens of times, but the work they did was nothing short of miraculous.

So back to our drive, we crested one hill, and saw a couple dozen white box things in a cleared area, and we weren’t sure what they were–until bees starting flying around the Jeep. Obviously, they were to housing for honeybees, so Youngest turned the Jeep around and we left :-) Thankfully the bees didn’t follow.

All of us are getting super excited for Middle Son’s wedding this weekend! As a bonus, I get to see Baby Slayer quite a lot around the wedding festivities too. Let’s just cross our fingers that the storm that is arriving this week clears out by Sunday, or the beach wedding is going to get interesting :-)

Speaking of the storm that’s supposed to dump some significant rain midweek, the city representatives were going door to door in our area over the weekend, warning us that we are now in a flood zone after the fires. We’ve also had two recorded phone calls from the country warning of the same thing. Sigh…so we’re on alert, and we will evacuate if we get the order. This isn’t a surprise, we knew it would happen if rains showed up. The good news is that the city/county have been working hard, using both big earth movers and k-rails to direct any runoff into the natural creek bed that leads away from homes. They are doing everything they can, and we appreciate that. This is just life in Southern CA, we get fires and mudslides.

Some of you may have seen on my FB page that Maggie wasn’t feeling well yesterday. As I’m writing this Sunday evening, she seems better and has eaten a little plain chicken and rice. If’ she’s not completely better by today, I’ll run her into the vet. For sure, I’m going to reschedule her second set of vaccines for another week or two out to give her more time between shots. My future daughter in law who works at a veterinary office is giving me advice so we can make sure Maggie will be fine :-)

That was my weekend, how was yours?

I hope Maggie feels better soon. :hugs: I’m glad Youngest is on board with the surgery and stuff. I’m sending positive thoughts to surround you all. Yay for more time with Baby Slayer! Ack, I hadn’t even considered the flood dangers for you after that fire. Stay safe.

The weekend here was mellow. We went out to the park and walked around. Then we went to another place and walked around on the beach. It was good for both of us to get away and blow the gunk out. I made Oatmeal Jam Bars. It was a first time recipe and it’s now a big hit with Hubs. Yay. Super easy to make, too. And now the cooler weather has departed, so baking is out for the time being.

Poor Maggie. :( Hope she’s all better soon. Youngest is made of awesome, as is Middle and Oldest. You have great sons! And Wiz? He’s the best. Just sayin’… ;) Yay for weddings, boo for flooding, though y’all need rain so mixed blessing.

I pretended to work this weekend. Watched some college football. Both my teams won. :) My Cards are out of the playoffs but there are teams in the running that I can root for, can watch and not really care, just enjoying good baseball.

JGG’s team won their soccer game like 14-0, not that anyone was keeping score… JGG made 3 of them and assisted on a 4th.

I’m not gonna hit my personal (self-pub) deadlines but stuff happens. Like life. Ah well. As we remind each other, it is what it is and que sera, sera. :)

Two more blog stops and then I’m getting off the net to work. It’s Monday, the first day of a new month, and there’s stuff to do.

    Have a great week!

I hope Maggie is feeling better today. It’s so hard when they’re ill since they can’t talk. I’m always super worried when they’re even a little off.

How nice that BLB came asking questions and had researched the procedure himself. Bet it made the conversation much easier for both of you. And with all the info it’s nice to hear he is full on board with you.

I feel awful for you and the scorched earth with the rains coming too. I hope you didn’t get much rain and no flooding occurred. It must have been sad when BLB took you and Wizard into the burned land.

Now you made me laugh that you didn’t recognize bee boxes ;). My middle son took a class in bee keeping and was going to have his own hives but it never worked out. There are bee keepers all around us and I only buy local honey and bee pollen.

I’ll keep good thoughts that the weather holds and the beach wedding goes off perfectly.

    Have a great afternoon!

B.E., Maggie seems much better today, thanks! It’s a catch-22 on the potential floods. So Cal really needs the rain. Maybe we’ll get a nice slow steady amount that won’t trigger problems.

Getting around and doing something active is a good way to blow out the gunk! I love walking as long as it’s not blistering hot. Glad you guys had fun! The bars sound good too :-) Sorry for the return of the heat.

Hope your week is off to a great start.

Silver, it really helped to have Youngest stop by and encourage me. They’re all great, I guess I just needed his logic. I’m really looking forward to Middle’s wedding!

Yay for your football teams, but sorry your Cards (Cardinals?) are out of the payoffs.

JJG’s game was a blowout, LOL! But at that age, not keeping score makes it more fun for them. Sounds GGJ is a budding soccer star!

Ugh, sorry about the deadline. I know the feeling. My unsolicited advice (of do as I say not as I’m currently doing) don’t let it get to you and keep moving forward. You always do that anyway!

I can’t believe it’s Oct! Hope you got a great start on your week!

Viki, she’s much better and currently waiting for me to finish here and give her dinner :-) This time made me uneasy as she’s never ever been sick in her kennel before. Like you, I wish they could tell us what exactly is wrong. But she’s much better!

BLB really made me feel better.

It was sad to see the damage up in the hills, but we knew it. The floods are a concern, but we probably we aren’t losing sleep yet. Just keeping aware.

Okay full discloser–Wizard was the first to figure out the bee boxes. BLB and I weren’t as sure until the bees swarmed around the car, LOL! That would have been an interesting hobby for your son.

Thanks for the good thoughts on the wedding. I’m pretty sure the weather will cooperate.

I hope you had a good weekend, since you didn’t say. And that your week is getting off to a good start!
