Weekend Roundup

Okay who stole the weekend? Here it is Sunday evening, and I’m like…there was a weekend?

Heads up: I have a serious question at the end of this blog. You can skip to that if you don’t want to hear the details of my weekend.

Friday, we had my final pre-op appointment, and all my tests are good so we’re ready to go. While discussing concerns, I brought up my reaction to General Anesthesia which is nausea. Wizard jumped in with, “She’s not overselling it, she gets sick. Really sick. And it doesn’t stop.” Umm…thanks for the help, Wizard??? LOLOL! But he’s not lying, and the doctor doesn’t want me sick (he said retching, UGH!), since we want the bones to fuse. So we talked about ways to minimize that, and we’re all set for Oct 30th. I’ll find out my time of the surgery the day before. Later that day, Wizard and I got our flu shots, then he began the “chase” for his phone. The new phone showed up–and it’s the wrong one. We don’t know if it’s an honest mistake or they are playing games. We’ll see, but I’m less happy about the customer service right now.

Saturday, I went to see BIL in the hospital, then he threw my sister out so we could go to lunch. He wanted her to have a break from the hospital, which is a good sign that’s he’s feeling well enough to worry about her. He’s going to be up and down now as he recovers, but he’s a fighter and determined to recover. By the way, my sister is handling all this like a rock star.

Sunday, I planned to have the day to catch up on some stuff and maybe write, but my day got better! Youngest called and invited me to go look at the wedding venue that his fiance is excited about. We went and looked, and they signed the contracts! I’m so happy about this, it’s for November 2019 so there’s lots of time for me to recover and still be a part of planning. Vet Tech Fiance and her mom are both made of Awesomeness and are making efforts to include me in the planning. I don’t have daughters, so this is pure fun for me! Our last son marrying :-) Wizard is just as thrilled as I am.

And now my question: Do you think people would be interested to hear about my surgery journey? I can do video updates, but my videos will be amateur ones. Some will be me on pain pills :-)  They will definitely be all me–not feeling well, wearing a cervical collar, no make-up and natural weird hair. Or should I just keep it light with just blogs and posts when I can? Obviously, I’m not going to worry about it if I don’t feel well enough to talk on video. I’m still thinking about this and would love any input you have.

Okay that’s my weekend-plus-question. Now I want to hear how your weekend was!

I don’t think you should worry about video blogging after surgery. Hell, don’t worry about blogging at all. Take time to heal. If you feel like blogging, then go for it, but don’t feel like you have to. If you want to make and post a video, then do it. And if you feel like documenting your journey via video, we’ll be here with you. But don’t stress about it. :hugs:

I’m so glad they’re including you in the wedding planning. And also so glad that BIL is recovering well. I get that Biker Witch doesn’t want to leave his side, but she needs some downtime here and there. Good job getting her out for a little while. Ugh on the anesthesia nausea thing. I had that after my last surgery, but I think that was my fault. When they say ‘don’t drink or eat anything before’, they mean it. But I can’t make it through the morning without coffee, so… Umm, yeah.

The weekend here was quiet, as usual. No, I didn’t go fishing. The weekend was gorgeous which means it gets extra peopley here. Plus, when it’s gorgeous, the fish are less likely to bite. We did some yard work and some walking. I tried to get some editing done, but that was a slog. I made corn bread and then I made cake cookie bars. It’s all good. ;o)

What B.E. said! She took the words right out of my mouth re: blogging. Fun times planning a wedding and your awesome sons have picked awesome daughters to add to your family. :) Biker Witch IS a rock star and your BiL is all the awesomesauce too. Still sending good thoughts that way. Throwing up after neck surgery is A Very Bad Thing(tm). Hopefully, the doc can figure some things out for you.

I vegged all day yesterday. Paying for it today with massive amounts of email and other stuff to deal with. I’ve got to put my big girl panties on and get this stupid proposal revised. Not sure there’s enough coffee in the world.

LG has strep throat and a sinus infection. Not the flu but I’m still not convinced that the flu shot didn’t compromise his immune system. Problem is, he can’t just stay in bed. He did part of Friday, but couldn’t Saturday, and then was down all day yesterday. Today, he’s in the office but I’m hoping he can come home early and go back to bed.

Went to my RWA chapter meeting Saturday. It was fun to reconnect with folks, except I ended up on an advisory committee for chapter PR. 8-O Like I’m any good at that stuff.

Still not talking about writing. Today. Work. No ifs, ands, or buts. No, really. Y’all stop laughing. I’m totally serious this time.

I’m very happy to hear your BIL is doing as well as he is. Love that he kicked Biker Witch out to get away with you for some down time – good guy.

Wizard was smart to really stress how anesthesia makes you so sick. The doc probably doesn’t want you stressing your neck at all after surgery.

BLB and fiance got he venue they wanted :)!!!! So another Nov. marriage :). It’s a great time of year to get married.

Man I hope Wizard’s phone issue gets resolved ASAP. Are they over nighting the correct phone for Wizard?

Well we had Harrison and his family (including Pee Wee) here over night. They lost power due to a storm Saturday evening. It still hadn’t come back on after 14 hours. It was 33F out and the house had dropped to 64F (a good temp for me ;)). The power company said it wouldn’t be back up until 4 PM today so they packed up and came here. Harrison had a ball in my non-childproof house. Chasing after Spunk was fun too ;). Pee Wee was just glad that he was cuddled up with us. They got back on line this morning and went home. Cass has been cooking all the meat that had been in her freezer. What a tiring day for her :(.

I hope you have a great afternoon!

B.E., that’s probably the best advice, thanks! Post surgical nausea is fairly common, but I won’t eat or drink anything except my meds per doctor instructions. I’m also switching over to decaf coffee so I don’t have caffeine withdrawal on top of it all.

I saw on FB that you got of your irises planted too! Good job! So you got quite a bit of planting done. I understand why you didn’t go fishing, maybe you can go during the week when less people are around. I bet the cornbread and cookies are delicious!

Silver, thanks on all, and BE’s advice made sense. I really don’t want to deal with nausea and throwing up. The anesthesiologist will try, and I guess we wait and see.

I hope you were able to whiz through your email and dive right into revising the proposal.

Poor LG! Sinuses infections are miserable! And sometimes very hard to kick. I hope he came home and rested more today.

Yay for your RWA chapter, and I just shook my head at you ending up on on yet another committee. But you know how to do PR, it’s just harder to do it for ourselves.

Viki, true, I’m not allowed to move my neck or the bones won’t fuse, so nausea is not a good thing. But we’ll get through it.

Yep another November marriage–three days before Wizard and my anniversary, and isn’t yours the same day?

The phone is being sent to the Verizon shop. I don’t know when it’ll get here.

WOW good thing you live close by so Harrison and his folks could come stay with you. That’s cold! I bet Harrison loved chasing the kitty; Baby Slayer likes crawling to Maggie :-) And we need to do some childproofing here for sure now that he’s crawling. And awww on PeeWee.
