End of the Year Catch Up

It’s the last Friday of 2018, how weird is that? Instead of a Friday Five, I’m just going to ramble a bit :-)

We had a really nice Christmas, and it’s not over for us yet. We’re having another celebration this weekend at Middle Son and his wife’s house. It’ll be relaxed and fun, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Oh yeah, here’s Maggies face when I told her that she wasn’t getting any Christmas presents:

Just kidding–I bought her some treats and put them in a bag with kittens all over it. She was very happy with her present. And she also stole wrapping paper and ran through the house with it, totally proud of herself. Maggie’s a really well behaved dog, but it’s also nice to see a mischievous streak now and again.

I’m still healing, it’s been 8 weeks since my surgery and I’m trying not to lose my mind from being housebound :-) I walk all the time, and this week, I’m walking Maggie too so that gets me out. But I want my independence back! So yesterday Wizard was going to the track to practice racing, and I told him I was going to run an errand while he was gone. As in I was going to drive myself to the store.

Wizard started firing questions, “Are you sure you can drive? You have to wear your brace. Which store are you going to? When are you going?”

I told him the store I was going to, and added, “It’s very close, I’ll be careful, but I can do this. I’ll go after you leave.”

Being an overprotective Alpha Male, he said, “What do you need to buy at that store? I’ll take you right now before I go, or I can pick it up on my way home.”

I just stared at him in frustration.

“Okay,” he relented because, HELLO I wasn’t asking permission, I was informing him as a courtesy. Before he left, he said, “Please, just be careful.”

I went to the store, found what I needed and got home fine.  And I told Wizard exactly that when he got home from racing. He seemed to accept that I can start doing some things like drive to the store.

Then last night, Wirard said, “Wake me at six in the morning.”

“Why?” I’m always awake, so him asking me to wake him isn’t unusual, but I knew where this was going with this.

He said, “I’m taking you to get your haircut in the morning. I need to got to Walmart anyway.”

Yeah…apparently I only won a small skirmish in the battle for freedom, LOL! I gave in somewhat gracefully because he’s not wrong–I’m not ready for a lot of driving yet. And I’m very grateful to have a partner who is trying so hard to help me out. He’s been my rock through all this, and he never complains.

In the new year, I have to tackle a health insurance change, but I’ll be with all my same doctors. That’s going to take some time, and the second week in January I’m on call for Jury Duty. But around that–I’m going back to writing. I’m tossing out what I don’t like in the book, taking a fresh approach to get Savaged Devotion done. I’ll have to limit my computer time but I know I can do this!

So that’s my catch up. Now it’s your turn!

Aw, poor Maggie. I’m glad she got prezzies. Have fun at your 2nd Christmas!

Go you! Sometimes even baby steps are huge. Ugh, I don’t even want to think about next year yet and it’s freakin’ next week. :shudder: I hope getting back to writing goes well for you. Fingers crossed.

We had a quiet Christmas and ate way too much. Not really much here to catch up on. Same ol’ same ol’. I’m still in a place where I can’t muster the gumption to write. I waver between beating myself up and cutting myself slack. (Or just slacking off.) Next week, I’ll get back to being physically active and writing.

Jen, you are making amazing progress so remember that when you get frustrated. Push a little but not too much. Your body will help guide you so listen to it! And yeah, Wiz is definitely a keeper! Awww, sweet Maggie. She’s brought such joy to your lives.

Me? Not much going on in my neck of the world. I shouldn’t admit that not having to get up and go someplace on Christmas morning was awesome so I won’t. We had a wonderful time with everyone over on Christmas Eve for JGG’s “traditional” dinner. After the big deal he made over “Christmas apples,” we almost couldn’t get him to taste them. (Apple pie filling warmed up – ) There was lots of love and laughter but I figure next year, we’ll go back to our usual routine, which means being up at the kids for Santa. *sigh*

Writing has been non-existent but for a few snippets of flash fiction here and there. I’m giving myself until the new year and then I’m going to buckle down and get the three projects sitting burnt on the front burner back on track.

I can’t believe this year is over. It’s been a blink of an eye at the same time it’s dragged. Time is so convoluted. LOLOL

Here’s to a wonderful 2019 for all of us!

B.E., Maggie can really work her sad when she wants attention :-) Last week, she was army crawling with extreme cuteness to get my other daughter in law’s attention. It was ridiculous watching her.

Thanks, it’s all going very textbook as far as my healing, but it all hinges on the x-ray at the end of the January to see if my bones are fusing as hoped. This could be a very long process, I know that. Once Im driving more, it’ll be easier.

A quiet Christmas sounds peaceful. Ours was more lowkey than usual, so I can relate. I can also relate to eating too much! I’ve been doing that for weeks now.

Stop beating yourself up! I know, I do it too, but you’ve produced a lot of work this year and need/deserve a guilt free break. We aren’t machines.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Silver, thanks! I know you’re right, and my irritation level is a sign I’m getting better :-) I’m pretty much only pushing where the doctor said I can, like walking, but not lifting or bending.

Maggie has indeed brightened our lives!

I didn’t hear you say you were relieved to sleep in a bit on Christmas morning :-) Your Christmas Eve dinner sounds like a success. JGG is pretty typical, asking for something like Christmas apples (??) and then not wanting to try them. I hope everyone is starting to feel better! Only had strep right?

It’s almost impossible to write this time of year. You’ll get back to in next year!

You summed it up as far as they year flying by slowly :-) For us, it was a constant state of disruption with babies, weddings, fires, floods, surgeries and other things. If normal shows up next year, I’ll be bored, LOL! You had a lot of things happening too.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I love Maggie’s face. That’s too cute. We all know that Santa must have been good to her.

Glad you’ve had a nice Christmas. I’m sure tomorrow will be nice too :). Hubs family thing is Sunday. Seems we keep the season going ;).

Yes! Some independence back again. Congratulations on being able to walk Maggie again. Wizard is so sweet. He’s a keeper for sure.

Yesterday was Pee Wee’s 13th birthday. Poor guy has really turned gray but he’s still a sweetheart.

Harrison had a ball with boxes and old toys here on Christmas Eve :).

New Years Day will be quiet here. Only youngest will be here so I don’t think we’ll do much.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Viki, we’re both doing the same thing with the endless holiday, LOL!

Thanks on Wizard, he’s definitely a keeper but I need to regain so independence or I’ll drive us both batty.

    Awww PeeWee!! I can’t believe he’s 13. I hope he’s feeling pretty good.

Harrison sounds a lot like Baby Slayer! Our little Slayer loved the stick on bows :-) Harrison is a little older so he’s more sophisticated with his boxes and old toys!

New Years Day will be quiet here too until Wizard and I surprise ourselves and do something. I hope whatever you guys do–even if it’s just hanging out with youngest–you have a good day.

Enjoy your weekend and your final Christmas party!
