Weekend Roundup

Freedom from the hard brace is awesome :-) Yeah, I’m doing a lot, and Sunday evening, I’m super tired, but so happy to be able to do things.

–I wrote a quick scene that I’ll refine and finish today.  I still keep my work hours limited, and I’m trying to make more effective use of my time at the computer. That’s a work in progress!

–We’re looking into options for our vacation.

–I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Now the dumb thing here is that I wouldn’t stop for one minute to go get Wizard to have him stir in the oats and chips for me. Of all the things I’ve done in the last week…that’s the one that made me sore, LOL! However it won’t damage my neck, so ***shrug***, not really a big deal.

–I’m working on stretches that don’t put too much pressure on my neck. While they are making me sore in the short-term, they will be a big help long-term. I’m doing these before I go back to the gym (for light, doctor approved, workouts).

–I held Baby Slayer for hours yesterday and everyone is relaxing around me. Again, I’m careful. For instance, I won’t carry him down their steep stairs yet, I just hand him off to his mom.  Wizard was over there helping CPA Boy trim back trees, weed and do some spring yard cleaning that was a big job. Wizard was really tired, so I drove home. That’s a huge win for me! It’s a long drive, and even over-protective Wizard was comfortable. Plus he got to see how I’m compensating. I’d lost some of my ability to turn my neck before my surgery, so the limitations from my fusion now isn’t really a big adjustment.

–I’m walking Maggie all over. Here’s a picture of Maggie when she hears the girls across the street. Maggie loves them. When she sits like this, she wants out. Of course, sometimes, she’s doomed to disappointment, but she still tries just in case I’ll take her out to say hi to them.

–Wizard told me yesterday I’m doing great. How is it that after all these years of marriage, his complements still make me happy? I’m really glad he’s relaxing now. He did so much for me for three long months.

Obviously, I’m feeling the high of this step of recovery. I’m very aware of the road ahead, but right now, I’m just happy to be this far along. Today I’m going to dial down the physical activity to give my muscles a break :-)

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

YAY! I’m so glad for you. I can feel the waves of happy excitement coming off this post. It’s a road, but if you take it a step at a time and celebrate the successes along the way, it won’t be as long as you think. ;o)

Our big thing this weekend was cleaning the office carpet. Between moving furniture and the actual cleaning, plus waiting for the carpet to dry, it took all day. But it’s clean – probably for the first time in its life. I didn’t get as much writing done as I would’ve liked, but hey, I’m writing again, so that’s something. We drove out to the lake yesterday and wandered around, just to blow the dust out of our pipes. It was 58F. Today is supposed to be cold and gross. Perfect writing weather, though, so it’s all good. =o)

You are awesome and doing great. Wiz is right and the two of you are prefect together–no matter how many years go by. That’s the way it should be!!! Yay for cookies, exercise, Baby Slayer, no brace, new scene, and Maggie. And Wiz. ;)

I was mostly a slug this weekend. The weather is crazy–freezing one day, flip-flop weather the next, then back to freezing. I’m still fighting insomnia which leaves me fuzzy-brained the next morning. *shrug* Life is pretty boring but that’s okay. Beats the alternative. :)

And I’m going to get new words written today. Or else. Also, cleaning and grocery runs. Before the next cold front and windchills hit this afternoon. Fun times all around.

    Have a great week!

What a great weekend you had! So happy you’re out of the hard brace and are able to get back to some normal activities. Note, when you notice pain, stop and call Wizard. I’m sure he’d be glad to help out and not risk you not finishing making cookies ;).

Those cookies sound great. I need to make some oatmeal raisin cookies.

Good job on the writing and vacation planning. I hope you get your trip to Hawaii set up.

Baby Slayer must have loved having you carry him around :).

It’s getting cold here. It was -1F until 5:30 this morning when the temps began to rise. We’re in the low 30’s right now but the roof is about to cave in. It is going to steadily drop down to -13F Wednesday morning. Our high is only going to -3F Wednesday. Good thing my girlfriend and I are having coffee Tuesday when it’s in the teens because she won’t want to go out in sub-zero temperatures ;).

I hope you have a great afternoon!

B.E., I agree on celebrating successes–in all parts of our life including recovering.

Cleaning carpets is hard work! I can understand why you didn’t get a lot of writing done. Hopefully today you got some words down.

Going for walks anywhere is one of my favorite ways to blow out the cobwebs. A lake is a nice option.

Hope the weather doesn’t get too cold there–the forecast for much of the US is dangerously cold. As long as the heat and electricity work, you’re right–it’s good writing weather!

I hope you’re able to get a few words down today.

Silver, thanks :-) I really want to leave the depressed days behind me (before the surgery, and I tried NOT to talk about it). The new scene really made me happy. Finally nailed my turning point that takes me into the rest of the book–as long as I don’t second guess any more.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling with brutal insomnia! I haven’t had it that bad for more than one night in a while. That makes everything worse when you’re constantly exhausted. I hope you sleep tonight.

Hope you got it all done–words, cleaning and groceries before the cold front moves in.

Viki, LOL, you’re right on the pain :-) And yeah, Baby Slayer was in the mood to be held because he’s teething. He was interested in watching Grandpa with the cool tools too.

The cookies came out really good. Hope you get to make yours and enjoy!

The vacation is pretty overwhelming, we’re still narrowing times and plans, but soon, we’ll get on top of it. This is fun research.

I’ve seen teh weather reports! That’s some serious weather coming your way. I hope you’re able to have coffee with your girlfriend, but be careful. You know way more than I do about dealing with those conditions, but I still have to say–stay safe!

Hope you have a great evening and fun tomorrow!
