Weekend Roundup

What a weekend. We spent much of it fighting traffic, and we didn’t get home until late last night.

Saturday we went out to Wizard’s mom to see an Uncle from out-of-state. We only get to see him once a decade, so we made it work, and it was an amazing visit.

On Sunday, Turbo had a great birthday! But due to our city being completely overwhelmed by folks coming to see the poppies, we had to move the party to Middle Son’s house. Middle Son and his wife were awesome about it, we all pulled together and it worked out. Turbo had a very happy birthday! He got a lot of gifts, but he spent most of the time playing in the wrapping paper, and later, with a cup and spoon :-) Typical, LOL!!!

But…after what we witnessed this weekend, I’m fear for the survival of the human race. Idiots were stopping on the freaking freeway, and walked down the side of it with their little kids to see the poppies. Our city is gridlocked, they’ve been snake bites and accidents, a city employee was hit by a car, and the driver took off. I know a lot more happened but I haven’t had time to check the news on my sites. I’m not exaggerating this, it was terrible, extremely dangerous and truly makes me doubt that common sense even exists any longer. The city posted on social media that all their resources were exhausted and the situation was out of control. Of course they’ve reached out to other resources (police, etc) to help, but we’re talking about 50 thousand people swarming a small city.

Wizard and I are exhausted, and tomorrow morning we have to get up early to go back out-of-town to a dentist appointment, which means back into that poppy gridlock. Hopefully it won’t be as bad as the weekend, or the normally 30 minute drive one way will take up to 2 hours.

Oh, one other good thing, we took Maggie with us to James’s birthday. It’s the first time we got Maggie, and Middle Son’s big dog, Jett together. They did great! Maggie was a very good girl, and Jett’s a totally cool dude who loves all dogs.

How was your weekend?

Yay for pupper friendship. Happy B-day, Turbo! And yeah, play with the cool stuff while you can. The presents will wait. ;) Ugh! I totally get the gridlock headaches and yes, people are stupid. All you have to do is read the Darwin Awards. If I were the mayor/city manager/whoever in authority, I’d enlist CHP, the county sheriff and any local LEOs. I’d then go down the line of parked cars issuing $500 tickets (after passing that ordinance). That way, there’s a revenue stream, the media gets involved because “OMGWTFBBQ all we did was stop, block traffic, endanger people so we could admire the fields of poppies” and then the city spokesperson explains about the gridlock, the danger, and the real injuries. OOH! Or impound their cars! Have a whole fleet of tow trucks patrolling. They get out, walk off, the truck hooks up and off they go. A city bus could be there ferry them–once the bus was full–to a walk-up judge where fines are assessed and instructions given on how to get their cars back.

    Yeah. I’m mean like that.

Okay. Saturday was crazy. OKRWA started at 10. I was busy during the morning critique group setting up a 100″ projector screen and the new projector the chapter bought for Power Point etc presentations. I was praying the projector would work because I didn’t have the right connector to try it on my Mac Air, and then we learned the speaker was ill and wouldn’t be there. We broke for lunch an then had just a general visit, brainstorming, talking about problems folks are having with their writing, publishing, stuffs. Nice day. As soon as we cleared them out, Only and her family arrived to set up for Stormy’s B-day party. *sigh* 20+ kids, 20+ parents, Ninja Turtles and dinosaurs, pizza and nachos. By the time LG and I got home, we were exhausted. He slept away most of Sunday. I piddled around.

Now it’s 1:15 on Monday and I’m still trying to get my brain to work–AFTER a pot of coffee and now strong ice tea. Fun times.

    Have a great week, everyone!

Happy to hear Turbo had a a wonderful time playing with the wrapping paper and his spoon :). Birthday’s are so much fun!
Sorry people are so stupid. You guys made the national news again because of the poppy/butterfly bloom. It sure is pretty. Too bad so many people ruin things for everyone else.

Glad you got to see Wizard’s mom and Uncle.

Wonderful to hear that Jett and Maggie got along. Makes me happy :).

We spent our weekend recovering and doing house maintenance. And we had our Irish dinner :).

    Have a great day!

Silver, all great suggestions, LOL! I read them outloud to Wizard :-) CHP and other LEOs are involved at least to some degree, I don’t want to make it sound like the good guys weren’t trying. But you know how it goes…. We definitely need some drastic measures to deal with the the TSTL folks. The people who are following rules and just want to hike to see the flowers are fine. I might grumble under my breath, but I’d still support their rights to enjoy a hike on the trails to view the beautiful blooms :-) But idiots created serious danger.

Whew, I bet you and LG were tired!! Doesn’t it figure that after you worked so hard to get the projector set up, then you find out the speaker is sick. Ugh.

Talk about OMG–20+ kids and parents???? Wowzers, that’s a lot of chaos! But what a special and memorable 5th birthday for Stormy! I bet he had a blast!

I’m having a slow day too. I didn’t sleep, and just doing the small things today. We’re both in the same boat.

    Happy Monday!

Viki, he really did have fun with the typical one year old stuff. He also get a few face licks from Jett, which he found hysterically funny. And so no one worries, we always closely supervise with the dogs and Turbo, but Jett tries very hard to be gentle.

We’re such a small city to keep hitting the national news! What a crazy year. The butterflies swarmed, and its fun to watch them. The poppies really are gorgeous, I’ve never seen them like this.

We’re happy Jett and Maggie did well too!

How was your corned beef and cabbage??? I hope you and hubby are both feeling better!
