Friday Five

TGIF! It’s time to share 5 random things about our week.

  1. The poppies, also known as the Super Bloom, have been declared dead! The city has been spreading the word, and the L.A. Times wrote a tongue-in-cheek obituary piece that I found amusing. I think my favorite line is the first two clauses in this sentence: In lieu of sending flowers, as that would be horrifically insensitive, Super Bloom enthusiasts are encouraged to donate to their favorite Lake Elsinore charity, or maybe just send a nice thank-you note to city leaders. There will still be some people who come hike the trail into the hills, and that’s fine–heck I want to hike the trail with Maggie some morning. We are just crossing our fingers that it won’t be massive crowds that the city isn’t prepared to handle.
  2. I’ve been to the gym on average about twice a week. If I make it there today, it’ll be three times which is my goal. Although, I’m pretty happy with twice a week right now as I slowly regain some upper body strength. Plus I walk every day too.
  3. I finally gave in from endless brick-and-mortar store shopping, and ordered three pairs of jeans and three pairs of shorts online. Four out of six items fit me, which isn’t too bad of odds. I’m going to return the two pairs of pants today, and once again, try some old-fashion shopping in the actual store. But I’m not holding out much hope of finding anything. My experience is usually: If I like it–they won’t have my size, or they’ll be something wrong with it.
  4. We went to see our grandson, Turbo, yesterday. It takes most of the day, but it’s always worth it! His daddy ordered him some washable crayons that showed up while we were there. Turbo loved the crayons, and carried two around with him while we went on walks and toddler-exploring outside. Then once back inside the house, he discovered he could put the two crayons in one of the dog dishes–and Mommy was so busy on a phone call (we were watching him so she could make the call), that she didn’t notice and stop him. Grandma and Grandpa let him play with the clean dog dish and two crayons. Best Day Ever for Turbo! They are so easily amused at this age, LOL! (FYI, Grandpa secretly checked with Mommy, and she said it was fine, she’d just wash his hands before he ate lunch. What a good Mommy!)
  5.  Maggie swears she’s not getting gray. Um….

So that’s my Friday Five. Now I’d love to hear yours!! I hope everyone has a super-fabulous weekend!

Tell Maggie it’s a very stylish gray. ;o) Yay for Turbo time! And yay for finding pants that fit! You go, gym girl! And I’m so glad the poppies have finally ended their blooming season.

    1) The blooming season is picking up here. My lilac is full of blossoms. I have anemones blooming, too. My peonies have buds. I love Spring flowers. I even love the dandelions and the wild violets.
    2) I made Peanut Butter Oatmeal Raisin Cookies yesterday – a new recipe I tweaked. So good. I posted the recipe on my blog and shared it to FB.
    3) Hubs has decided he’s off fish. And chicken. And turkey. I’m having fun trying to find something to cook for dinner that’s still healthy. Weeee.
    4) I’ve been getting loads of plant catalogues lately. Which is killing me because I already said I wasn’t buying any plants this year. But they’re all so pretty!
    5) I got kudos from the boss (my brother) this morning on my spreadsheet work. So I got that goin’ for me. ;o)

What B.E. said and Boone adds that even though Maggie might be a girl, grey makes a dog look “distingquished.” He’s all about that. ;) Okay, my five.

    1. I survived the spring cold from hell but I can tell I’m getting really old because it takes days to get back to full strenght. :(

    2. Despite the funky weather and the thick layer of leaves that finally got removed, I have bluebells and wisteria blooming. Of course, the frost last night might have cut the blooms short. Will just have to wait and see.

    3. LG’s health situation is a bit on-going. The docs have him scheduled for all sorts of things and his energy level is even lower than mine. He’s got to cut down on stress which means I need to get my arse in gear and get new stuff published. My sales are sucking and he’s not working so $$ flow is stressful. Such is life. :-P

    4. I’m trying to listen to the entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Not sure I’m going to make it. Since I tried like six times to get through the first book, I’m impressed I’m on book 7. I have book 8 already in my Libby app (library) so I’ll get through at least that. Then I may have to take a break.

    5. Why is it I can breeze through 4 things but I always get stuck on the 5th? My life is so boring. LOLOL

    Have a great weekend!

    1. So happy the poppies are dead! Maybe life can get back to normal for your city.
    2. Good job with going to the gym. I’m glad you’re not over doing it.
    3. You’re better than me. I only go into a clothing store maybe once or twice a year. I never buy anything- nothing fits me. Good luck finding replacement pants for the ones you’re returning.
    4. Go Turbo. I love how they come up with the crazy things to do :).
    5. Maggie needs some touch-up ;). Tell her she’s just added more character to her looks.

1a. Just got back from a massage :-D.
2a. Because of 1a we’re having pizza and wine for dinner :)!
3a. Middle son decided he wants to go see my mom and step-dad tomorrow and is taking me along. Not only do I get to see my family but I get a ride in his new car.
4a. Harrison and his parents are at the Star Wars Convention in Chicago right now. The actors that are there are loving the kid. Cass bought him all Star Wars outfits for the thing so he looks really cute.
5a. Decided to give the MyPillow guys sheets another shot and the arrived as ordered this time. Will put them on the bed Sunday. Hope they live up to the hype.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

B.E., Maggie is currently sulking in her chair because I won’t help her chase lizards. I’ll try to cheer her up by telling her you said her gray was stylish :-)

    1) You have quite a variety of spring flowers to enjoy!
    2) The cookie recipe on your blog looks good! I’d probably swap out raisins for chocolate chips, just because I’m not big on biting in raisins. It’s a weird quirk of mine, and we can thank my big brother for that. Trust me, he put me off raisins for a very long time, LOL!
    3) Hubs has definitely presented you with a challenge to get protein and make healthy meals without fish, chicken and turkey!
    4) Oh the temptation!
    5) Congrats on the Kudos from your boss (also your brother). That’s always a great feeling!!

Hope Friday is treating you right!

Silver, is this the same “Distinguished” Boone who hides during thunderstorms? I can remember he’s the one who hides or not. And I shouldn’t tease him about it, LOL!

    1) I’m sorry you were sick :-( It sucks to take longer to recover too. Even a pulled muscles takes me twice as long now.
    2) I hope your blooms survived the frost.
    3) I’ve been worrying a bit about LG, and you since the stress will have to flow to you. I feel for you. I’m here if there’s anything I can do, or just to talk.
    4) So…why???? Life’s too short for you to invest so much time in a series that doesn’t really ring your bell. It’s not anything against the author or others who love it. You must have a reason though, even if it’s market research, right? For me, I checked out of that series when I couldn’t suspend my disbelief. But another super smart, highly educated, friend of mine loved it and didn’t see the contradictions that idea. To each his own!
    5) No! You’re life isn’t boring. I can even remember two things in a row some days. I write things down a lot. And right now, you have a lot going on with LG’s health plus your bad cold.

I really hope you feel much better this weekend, and that LG feels better too.

Viki, I hope I’m not overdoing it, but I already feel stronger so that’s something. I was surprised and found what I need, and a decently full coverage tankini swimsuit in a pretty blue by sheer dumb luck–all on sale. That never happens! I think I have most of what I need for Hawaii and life in general for awhile.

    1) I hope the massage helped! I’ve never done it but I might if I find the right place someday.
    2) Perfect relaxing dinner!
    3) You and Middle will have a fun day! Congrats to Middle on getting a new car too!
    4) Yay Harrison! I bet he’s irresistible in his Star Wars outfits. Plus he’s so cute :-)
    5) Hope the new sheets are everything you want!

Have a great trip with Middle Son and seeing your mom and step-dad!

JRW has a way of sucking the reader in by getting them to care about the other characters so you have to keep reading to get their stories. She does a BUNCH of things that irritate the snot out of me–purple prose, outrageous and frequent similes, totally irritating phrases (“Do you feel me, bro?”) and a rambling story-telling style but she still hooks the reader into caring. I wish I could figure out how she does it. *shrug* At least I’m getting them from the library so it’s not like I’m out cash or credits. :)
