Wednesday Roundup

Happy Hump Day!

We had a great trip with Middle Son and his lovely wife to Paso Robles, and came home with 7 bottles of nice wines. That’s a LOT for us. We had 8, but opened a Malbec to share with Middle and Wife on Saturday night. Beautiful Chef–that would be Middle’s Wife, and only one of her many talents–prepared a meal of tri tip steak, potatoes and salad in their trailer, so we brought the wine and homemade chocolate chip cookies. The meal was delicious! Here’s the four us at one of our favorite wineries, Calcareous:

It’s truly a stunning place, but to get there requires travel on a treacherous mountain-type road with no guard rails. I park Middle Son in the passenger seat, with Wizard driving (he was our DD, and severely limited his tasting to very specific wines he was interested in buying). I’m better in the backseat talking to Middle’s wife as looking down gives me vertigo. We went to four wineries in all, three were great, and one wasn’t to our taste.

And I got to play with Middle Son’s two dogs, Jett and Hazel! They are both great dogs, fulfilling my big dog fix without any of the work :-) I admire how very committed the two of them are to making sure Jett and Hazel, who are power breeds, are raised to be gentle and trained.

We got home just in time to pick Maggie up from boarding on Sunday. When I got there, she was hanging out with a little girl (the daughter on of the ladies who worked there) who looked to be around 7 or 8. Maggie was just walking around with her and the other small dogs, totally content–at least until she saw me. When the girl realized I was taking Maggie home, she told me how sweet she was which was wonderful to hear. I was thrilled that Maggie seems to be doing ok there, and got to hang out with a girl she clearly adored. As usual, once Maggie was home, she went seamlessly back into her routine, which tells me she’s not unduly stressed. She was tired, but that’s typical.

Now we’re back to life as usual. And gearing up for Youngest’s wedding in November.

So that was my weekend plus days off from the blog. How was yours?

Welcome back! I’m so glad you guys had a good time. =o)

Nothing much went on here. Walking, reading, cleaning, TV… the usual. I feel like a broken record, LOL. And since all the days seem to smear together lately, I’m not sure what happened since last Friday or what went on before that. Stuffs.

Sounds like y’all had a fantastic time and MS is totally lucky to have BC. ;) Maggie is such a good dog!

There was a long weekend. I think. Holidays don’t really affect my routine like they did when I worked out in the world. I listened to some books, caught up on some old episodes of Live PD on the DVR and tried to get some new words written. Notice, the operative word is tried.

Nothing exciting. I live vicariously through my friends who do cool stuff like go to wineries.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. You did great bringing back only 7 bottles of wine :). 75% on the wineries isn’t too bad either. As for the trek up the mountain, no guard rails? That’s insane.

So happy that Maggie had a great time too ;).

We really don’t do anything on holidays either. It was just the normal stuff except for the yongest making hubs go with him to the West Virginia/Ohio line to buy a new truck. Why he needs a huge Sierra 2500 HD diesel truck when he works in downtown Cleveland I will never know. It’s a really pretty red so I guess it’s okay.

Did Wizard approve of your wine rack installation?

    I hope you’re having a great day :)!

B.E., thanks, we did have fun.

I have those weeks and weekends that are just a blur of normal life too. Sounds like you relaxed, got in some exercise and maybe sparked some creative drive.

Silver, thanks on all. It’s hilarious that we rushed a bit to get home so we could get Maggie out of boarding a day early :-) Pet parents are a little crazy.

Don’t live vicariously through me! My big accomplishment today was cleaning bathrooms. Yesterday, I scrubbed the fridge. So not exciting, LOL! Trying is better than procrastinating, right?

Viki, that mountain road is nuts. However we’ve seen deer and wildlife on it, so that’s cool. We went slightly over our budget for wines, but overall didn’t do badly. My son and daughter in law belong to wine clubs and there are probably entire vineyards dedicated to them, LOL!

I so understand Youngest wanting his dad to go with him to buy the truck. Our boys have done that. Maybe he wanted the truck for camping and hiking? Middle has a big truck that isn’t practical for his commute, but pulls his trailer, etc. It makes sense to him. And red is a great color!

Wizard told me the shelf was great. Next I’m going to bug him to secure the rack for earthquakes. If it’s a big quake, nothing will help, but a tie down or strap for smaller quakes will keep it from sliding off.

Hope your day is going well!
