Friday Five

So this week came and went. I’m always mildly alarmed lately at how fast time is passing! So here’s five truly random things about my week:

  1. Yesterday we went to see Turbo! We took him out on our first solo grandparents trip to McDonald’s and it went very well. Turbo chowed down on chicken nuggets, french fries and applesauce while chatting away to us in Toddlerese. I know some of the words like apple, ice, bus, car, baby, and good. Some were in Vietnamese as Turbo is bilingual which is über cool. And some words were part of the mysterious secret language of toddlers.
  2. The best part was when Grandpa and Special K attempted Project Unistall the Car Seat from our car. It took the two people with master’s degrees in the family nearly fifteen minutes to conquer and complete Project Uninstall. When I asked Wizard about it later, he rolled his eyes and said there’s a web of straps hidden beneath the device making it a tricky project. Okay….
  3. This week I found a bra that’s the perfect color for my dress for Youngest’s wedding! Is that TMI? **shrug** Don’t care, the struggle has been real to find the exact right shade. The dress has a sheer illusion neckline, so I was determined to match the color enough so the straps of the bra would blend rather than stand out. I succeeded, I think…or my vision is so bad I can’t tell. So then I asked Wizard if he thought it worked, and he gave me the thumbs up. Yay, success! But wait…Wizard has terrible vision and has had two eyes surgeries…never mind. I shall believe the bra works :-)
  4. Last weekend, Youngest was prepping a wall in his house for painting, and the tool he was using mistook his hand for the wall. He’s fine–Urgent Care fixed him right up with some glue and Steri-Strips. Last night, I asked him how his hand was doing and if he needed cookies to heal faster. He replied that his hand is doing well, but he definitely needed cookies to achieve ultimate healing. Well duh, every mom knows that. So Saturday, I will be taking cookies to Youngest Son.
  5. Sunday is my soon to be daughter-in-law’s bridal shower! They’re wedding is the first part of November–it’s coming fast!

So that was some of my week, and now I’d love to hear five random things about your week! Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Yay for Turbo Time! Gah, I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with car seats anymore. Yay for finding the right bra! Boo for Youngest’s ouchie. He definitely needs cookies. Yay for the bridal shower and the impending nuptials!

    1) I made homemade baked meatballs with spaghetti sauce and cheese. So good.
    2) I also made homemade chocolate cake. OMG, yum. (posted the recipe to FB yesterday, if you’re interested)
    3) I finally went fishing again. Yay. It was nice to be at the lake and I actually caught a few fish. Woohoo.
    4) I’m finally back to walking again. Not sure what the knee thing was all about, but it’s over.
    5) It’s fall. I just wish the weather would start acting like it’s fall. I mean, the leaves are falling and we’ll need to rake soon, so why is it so damn hot? Ugh. Mother Nature must be having hot flashes. ;o)

Turbo, bra, cookies, and shower! 😍 I have Only for carseat duty. She has double Master degress–Museum Studies and Mom! Here are my five.

    1. Speaking of carseats, Only is borrowing the Highlander for Kindergarden Field Day on Monday. She’s going to convert the “toddler” seat to the booster version because Stormy is almost at the 65 lb. limit.

    2. I’ve been struggling to write this week. Then I got an idea on an unrelated project and ripped out 1K words in less than an hour. I’m about ready to write the book that calls to me rather than what needs to be written.

    3. I’m with B.E. Where has all the cool weather gone?!?! We’ve set some records with the heat this week.

    4. I gave Adidas a bath and survived with only one semi-minor gash. And that was AFTER clipping her claws.

    5. I made Not Much Left in the Budget Chicken Parmagian this week. Easy peasy and pretty darn tasty. Pre-made breaded chicken patties, Hunt’s Garlic and Herb Spaghetti Sauce, angel hair pasta, Mozzerella cheese and about 20 minutes.

And that’s my five. Fall soccer tomorrow with Stormy. Yippee. Have a great weekend everyone!

    1. You are so fortunate that Turbo is allowed to go solo with you and Wizard. Harrison’s parents won’t allow anyone to take him out in a car :(. Bet it was fun listening to him talk. How cool that he is bilingual.
    2. It’s easy to envision the car seat fun. Harrison’s dad still can’t do it. Drive’s Cassie nuts.
    3. The right color bra is a big deal. Good job finding the perfect match.
    4. Poor BLB :(. Mom and cookies always a win :).
    5. Enjoy the shower Sunday!

1a. It cooled off for one day. Back up tomorrow but the humidity will be lower. I can’t wait for real fall weather to show up.
2a. Wednesday was the 49th anniversary of hubs enlisting in the Army. We went out to dinner to celebrate. Goofy, I agree :).
3a. I’ve become a orange cream Twizzler addict.
4a. Trader Joe’s Fall flyer came out this week. Yes, I bought too much stuff including pumpkin dog treats for my girlfriend’s dog :).
5a. Girlfriend, hubby, and Ozzy the dog are up from FL for 2 weeks. It was so nice to go out to coffee this past Tuesday. Really missed it.

Have a fantastic weekend and a great time at the wedding shower.

B.E., no kidding on the car seats! They are complex, but they also save lives. Ok onto you:

    1) It sounds delicious!
    2) I haven’t been on FB but will check it out when I get there. Yum!
    3) Yay for fishing. It’s your happy place for sure.
    4) So glad to hear your knee is better.
    5) LOL on Mother Nature having hot flashes! That explains so much.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Silver, the car seat thing was hilarious. Special K can move her the car seat from her car, but this one was from CPA Boy’s car. Still funny to watch though. Turbo and I was highly amused. Now for you:

    1) I bet Stormy will love the field trip and the big boy version of his car seat.
    2) Ah, the temptation of the shiny new idea! It’s a true struggle.
    3) Ugh on the heat for you all. So sorry!
    4) You are so brave giving a cat a bath and clipping her claws!
    5) I love easy peasy recipes :-)

Hope you guys have a great weekend, and Stomy has a blast at soccer.

Viki, I hope Harrison’s parents get more comfortable with you guys taking him out soon. It’s a process for new parents I think. Our first solo outing we stayed close so I could call Special K if we ran into a problem like not being able to get him correctly strapped into the car seat. And I would have called her no matter how stupid I felt.

Honestly I felt awful for BLB too. But stuff like that happens and thankfully his soon to be wife was there and handled it. Plus she texted me and let me know what was happening when they were in Urgent Care. That meant so much to me. Okay now for you:

    1) You guys deserve mild cool fall weather that’s enjoyable!
    2) It’s cute, not goofy! That was a huge change in his life and he served his country. I love that you celebrate that. We should all celebrate our good and selfless choices more often.
    3) Twizzles are fun :-)
    4) Pumpkin dog treats for your girlfriend’s made me smile.
    5) That’s awesome that you get to spend time with your girlfriend! Plus seeing her hubby and Ozzy the dog (who I’m guessing got the pumpkin treats?)

Thank you on the wedding shower! I hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend!
