Friday Five

TGIF! Okay let’s jump right into sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. Each morning, I’m trying to get up and do 5 to 10 minutes of stretching/strengthening before coffee, and then I write notes in my planner. I’ve only done it for a week, and who knows if I’ll keep it up. But it definitely brightens my mood, almost like a form of meditation. I’m making changes to create a more Can Do Attitude. It’s amazing how a little self-care will help creativity, but it’s not an instant fix.
  2. I hate using phrases like “self-care” that are so trendy and annoying, but I couldn’t think of a better one :-)
  3. I ordered my pans! I had a few discounts at Kohls and even Wizard was impressed. Not impressed enough to lift the Costco Moratorium though! (That’s a joke between us in case anyone thinks he’s somehow scolding me.)
  4. I struggled to write yesterday (and all week), but had a Whoa, this might be the right track moment just before I shut down. I intentionally stopped when I was “hooked” so I can return to it tomorrow with some enthusiasm (attitude!). I also worked on my characters Goal, Motivation, Conflict.  Whenever I am lost writing a book, I go back to what’s driving the characters, and in my view, that’s always Goal, Motivation, Conflict.  The book “GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict” by Debra Dixon is on my writer’s shelf. I keep very few physical books anymore, but that’s one I’ve retained.
  5. I had my Costco frozen fruit mixed in my oatmeal yesterday morning and it was delicious! It’s so nice to have a bag of whole frozen berries to pull out as needed. The next thing I want to try to make is Zoats — oatmeal with shredded zucchini in it. I don’t know why except I saw it on a video and I figure, why not? LOL!

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours!

You go, girl. Yeah, I can’t think of a better phrase either. Yay for new pans! Yay for the Whoa moment! And for yummy food!

    1) I’m kind of not quite awake yet. And Hubs hit the ground running this morning. He’s already got the laundry going while all I want to do is sit here nursing my coffee.
    2) I faltered a bit this week on my ‘do it anyway’ resolve. Once I got the honey-dos done, that is. But I haven’t given up.
    3) The upside to having all my honey-dos done is that it looks nice. Clean windows, clean light fixtures, clean floors.
    4) We went for a walk in the woods yesterday. Not to work, but just to walk and look around. We always hope to find antlers, but we never do. I did find a pretty rock, though.
    5) Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a thing for pretty rocks. My mom tells a story about how the bus drivers used to make me empty my pockets before I got on the bus because they were always full of rocks I’d found while waiting for the bus. I’ve got rocks scattered all through the house now. This property is a rock addicts dream. =o)

Zoats? Uhm….no! But all the rest gets a big ol’ YAYAYAY! My five:

    1) Awoke to techinical difficulties so just now getting internet, phones, etc. back on line.

    2) Speaking of getting up early in the winter, when I’m wide awake at 4:30, I tell myself to get up and get to work. Then I stick my nose out from under the covers and go, “Nope!” Which is dumb, because I can’t ever go back to sleep so I might as well be working. 🤷

    3) We missed the ice but got rain–which we needed–and cold. Good day for staying in and making chili.

    4) I’m making slow progress on my WIP. Life keeps intervening. Silly Life! Still, some progress is better than none, right?

    5) Sometimes, weeks are so boring there’s nothing else random or noteworthy enough to mention. That’s this week for sure! Have a great weekend, everyone.

    1. Great way to begin the day. Keep it up.
    2. I don’t like catch phrases either.
    3. I hope you love your pans!
    4. Smart idea. Did it work out?
    5. I think I’d love the zucchini with oatmeal. I’d add cinnamon.

1a. Harrison is still super sick with this cold and he shared it with his dad on his 40th birthday. Bummer for dad.
2a. Because of you, I ordered a new griddle from Kohl’s to match my pots and pans :). Thank you.
3a. We’re supposed to get nasty weather. Lake effect snow and low temps. I’m ready. Have plenty of coffee in the house :).
4a. My aches and pains are getting out of hand. Need to find a new painkiller.
5a. Spunk ran out of his favorite treats (Yes, hubs did not tell me he was running out.) The only place that carries them is Petco and they’re out too. I will have one unhappy cat for a few days :(.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    B.E, thanks!

    1) It’s annoying when we have the slows and our spouses run around getting stuff done :-) Usually it’s me doing the running around, though, LOL!
    2) You got a lot done the first two weeks of 2020, so maybe you just needed to recharge a bit?
    3) Clean windows and lights make a huge difference. I need to do that, but…first I’m writing!
    4) Walks for fun are the best!
    5) There are a lot of pretty rocks, so I can see the allure. If I lived near sea glass, I’d collect that! LOL on the bus driver, though.

    Have a great weekend!

Silver, oh come on, you know you want to try zoats! LOLOL! I don’t blame you, on the face of it, it sounds weird.

    1) Ugh, so sorry for the technical difficulties.
    2) 4:30 is too early for me to get going, so I can understand why you don’t get up. I might be awake, but I refuse to get up so I get it. I will read or watch something on my Kindle if I truly can sleep.
    3) Rain is good! Hope you were able to make your chili.
    4) Yes! Some progress means you’re doing your best!
    5) Hope you have a great weekend too!

Viki, I really want to keep up this new morning routine! And all my pans but my flat griddle came today. I think I’m going to be very happy, thanks!

    1) Oh no, poor Harrison and his dad. Being sick is the worst as you know since you just got over your virus. I really hope they feel better soon.
    2) Yay on your new griddle!! And you’re welcome! We need good tools to keep cooking reasonably healthy meals. Although believe it or not, I’m trying to throw out more than I buy to simplify life.
    3) Coffee and chocolate seem vitally important to endure a brutal cold snap. I’m so glad you guys have the generator.
    4) Oh Viki, I’m so sorry. That kind of chronic pan saps the joy from life. I hope you can find a good painkiller to help. Is there anything your doctor can do to help?
    5) Poor Spunk! I hope you can find a suitable alternative in the house until you can restock his treats.

Stay warm and have a good weekend!
    3)
