Weekend Roundup

So it was an average Saturday. I was at my desk doing the whole Let’s Pretend I’m A Writer gig. Only, you know, I forgot to bring my words to the job :-) Anyhow I’m in my office and Maggie was in her chair, playing the part of Magic Muse Who Forgot Her Magic.

Both Maggie and I totally rock in our parts, by the way. I yell at imaginary characters, and she sighs and sleeps.  We were in the groove. Then Maggie woke and leapt off the chair, bolted into the kitchen and pounced.

It all happened in seconds. I just saw a blur leap off the chair, and turning suddenly, soundlessly aggressive like someone had flipped a switch. I panicked, wondering if she’d lost her mind and was going after Wizard as he was the only other person in the house. I jumped up and then I saw it.

A poor lizard, and two feet away, the lizard’s severed, still moving tail.

UGH.

Maggie had already moved away from the lizard and searching the rest of the kitchen. Once assured the threat was neutralized, she casually walked up to me and sat down. All calm and sweet again.

Freaky! I mean it was so fast, so silent and efficient.

Maggie spotted an invader.

Maggie neutralized the invader.

And life went back to normal for her.

I just…wow. Outside, she’s more playful, having a great time chasing lizards, and usually they escape. But she wasn’t playing inside. She meant business. I wonder if she’d do that with a human intruder? Probably not. Maggie’s naturally submissive to humans. But clearly not with lizards!

Other weekend news: My new pans came and, so far, we’re pretty happy. Gosh my old ones were bad! I swear I take care of my pots and pans, but I do use them a lot.

I decided that if I ordered a set of planner stickers, I’d find my missing words :-)  I’m weirdly excited about the stickers, they are little motivational reminders to myself that I’m moving forward, even if it feels like I’m slogging around in the muck of write-and-cut. But again, that’s not as unproductive as if feels because I’ll use some of those cut scenes later. The stickers are a way to show progress with brightly colored markers. Not sure if that makes sense, but hey, who cares as long as it works!

I stayed close to home this weekend, and I’m enjoying indulging my inner hermit with the quiet life for a while.

That was my weekend, how was yours?

Maggie to the rescue! Lizards belong outside and woe be to the one that forgets it. Good girl for leaving it alone after she killed it, and not trying to eat it. Good for you for getting some writing done, even if you weren’t thrilled with it. (Or maybe that was me.) Yay for new pans! And for motivational stickers! Have a good quiet week!

I was a lazy butt on Saturday but I hopped back on the resolve train yesterday and got stuffs done. I’m trying something I haven’t done in a long time (like pre-publication long time) – edits on one book in the morning, write new words on another at night. As long as I leave enough time between the two, I don’t get too mixed up. It helps that I’m editing book two and writing book three of the same series. I also did some minor rock work in the gardens yesterday – placing a border around our newly claimed wild daylilies and then bringing this one interesting rock out of the woods to place in the middle of my cedar bed. The rock looks like the cap of a big mushroom. Exciting stuff around here. ;o)

That lizard invaded her territory! Be glad she goes after lizards and not b/w stripeys! Jake is getting pretty good at dodging the spray but he has to protect his yard from all comers! Yay for new pans and pretty stickers and some semblance of writing. Better than nothing!

I was a slug this weekend. It was cold. I don’t like cold. I don’t like heat either but whatever. I’m obviously living in the wrong spot for temporate climtates.

Sadly, last week was pretty boring too. Not that boring is bad, it’s just not exciting to talk about. I listened to some books. I did some reading/editing. I looked at a boatload of photos for possible covers. I even gave up and colored in an adult coloring book on the day the internet was SNAFUd.

That said, it’s a new week with new possibilities. After Stormageddon goes home tonight. Mom and Dad are both working but he’s out of school so it’s Jammie and Big Daddy time! Yay. Maybe I’ll drag out my coloring book when he has to settle in to work on his coloring homework. :)

    Have a great week!

Poor lizard lost his tail. Do they grow back? Maggie had every right to defend her home from the little invader. It’s cute how when she neutralized the bugger she went right back to her nap. Good girl!

So glad your pans arrived over the weekend. Did you break them in? I bet you did. My griddle is supposed to arrive Wednesday. We will be having grilled tuna sandwiches soon after whether hubs wants them or not ;).

Harrison is feeling better but still coughing. I saw on the news very early this morning that the cough thing that I had and it seems Harrison had is not a cold or the flu. It’s this new virus that they think turns bacterial. I’ll buy it.

Our weekend was cold and snowy. Both the snowblower and shovel broke on Saturday trying to clear the heavy wet snow. Today we had 16 inches dump on us that were fluffy. After plowing through the snow and buying a new shovel I had youngest (it’s his day off) shovel. Thank heaven he’s young and strong :).

    I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

B.E., I’m grateful Maggie didn’t try to eat it! As it was, I was so glad Wizard took care of the lizard. I will do what I have to, but if he’s here, I don’t have to :-)

Nothing wrong with taking a day off.

That’s an ambitious plan of editing one book in the morning and writing another in the afternoon! If you can do it, it’s a great way to work.

I like the look of a rock mushroom cap! I’m sure it adds a lot of visual interest.

Hope your week is off to a good start.

Silver, I’ll definitely take lizards over skunks! I like skunks, just not in my backyard or house. Jake is doing his job even if he has to get a little smelly in the process :-)

LOL on not liking cold or heat. I don’t live in the same cold you do. The So Cal cold I can usually handle.

Boring definitely isn’t bad! And adult coloring books are probably on the same level as my stickers. They are fun, and give our brains some free time to be creative.

Hope you guys had fun with Stormy today!

Viki, I believe lizard’s tails can grown back, but, ummm, I’m pretty sure they have to be alive for that to happen :-( Maggie really saw him as an invader.

I washed the pans, but I’m not supposed to have to break them in with seasoning. I hope you love your new griddle when it arrives!

Wow if that virus is bacterial, it can be get ugly. Well any virus can, but still. I’m sorry the cough is hanging on for Harrison, is it for his dad too? Hope they all return to full health soon, and you all are done with illnesses for the year.

You must have been grateful for your young and strong son! I doubt I could do it these days. What a time for your snowblower to break too, I imagine that helps in clearing the walkways too.

Hope you are having a great day!
