Weekend Roundup

What weekend? I thought yesterday was Saturday, and suddenly realized last night that it was Sunday and I hadn’t written a blog.  The weekend was pretty good.

Saturday, Wizard went to help Youngest fix a fence post, and I spent the morning making just-for-fun cookies for Turbo. I had a great time, blasting music in my kitchen and trying a new-to-me technique of flood icing with royal icing than my usual buttercream. My attempt is extremely amateurish, but I’ll get better as I learn to get the icing the right consistency, figure out a better design and use a few tricks (like icing the cookies on a rack to let spillovers drain).  But I enjoyed doing it, and Turbo loved them (2 year olds aren’t picky as long as it’s a cookie with icing, LOL)

The rest of the day I worked. I’m making decent progress on the revision. This part needs more work, and I just keep plugging along.

Sunday, we went to see Turbo. If you’re wondering, I don’t show Turbo the cookies until his parents say it’s okay. They let him pick one, then gave him half of that, and he was thrilled. Turbo’s dad went into work for a while, and we encouraged his mom to go do whatever she wanted to get a break while we played. Just before his mom got home, Grandpa said, “I’m going to check traffic,” and pulled out his phone. Turbo and I were playing on the floor, and when Turbo heard that, he got upset. “No! Grandpa, stop it!” Then he crawled up in my arms. I was amazing that he knew that meant we were leaving soon. For the entire three hours we’d been there, he hadn’t cried once.

Today it’s back to working on the book.

That was my weekend. How was yours?

Wait, didn’t we have one of these posts like yesterday or something? Oh, that was a week ago? Blerg. Which basically tells what my weekend was like.

Yay for making cookies with Turbo! They’re totally cute! And an awesome first attempt. If I tried that, they’d look like some kind of Picasso nightmare. Yay for working and progress! Sorry Turbo gets so upset when you guys leave. Hopefully he’ll be over this phase soon and recognize that every time you go, you’ll be back before too long. :hugs:

The weekend here was hot, so we spent most of it indoors. I did manage to get one good walk in. Made pizza yesterday that turned out pretty good. I added about a quarter tsp of sugar to the dough to make it tastier and it worked. The quest for perfect pizza crust continues, though. Close but no banana.

I’m jealous of your cookie-making talents and Turbo’s response to y’all leaving. Stormy, even at 2, just says, “Okay.” Sometimes we get a “bye.” Sometimes we might even get a hug. Yay for bookish progress!

Kept thinking yesterday was Monday, but that was after I’d written my Monday blog earlier in the day. Not fair that we’re stuck with TWO Mondays in a week!

    It’s hot here. ‘Nuff said.

Attended a flag retirement ceremony at the Legion post last evening. A Boy Scout troop came to do it with the Legionaires’ help. Local FD came, too, since fire and burning is involved. They only got to do 2 flags because the wind came up. The last time they tried, there was a thunderstorm. I told LG they need to schedule in the middle of winter.

As you know, my newest book is wide. Two new characters have popped up. Working on their stories but no writing.

Giving blood today. Ugh but for a good cause.

We had a puppers house guest from Tuesday to Saturday. Long story. Glad she’s back with her family. So are my boys–all three. Boone’s too old for all that puppy nonsense. Jake is just mellow and didn’t want to play. Loki? Poor little dude was traumatized. Somehow, he decided Daisy (a blue heeler) being here was all MY fault! It wasn’t. Her owners are LG’s friends. I had to wash the bedspread (because Daisy slept on my bed) before Loki would get up there again. Cats!

That’s about it in my little corner of the world. Have a great week!

The trucks are so cute! I bet Turbo had a difficult time choosing which cookie he wanted most. Where did you get the cookie cutters, Amazon?

Sound like you had a busy but good weekend.

Mine was busy too. I got to have my hair done. It’s a bit lighter than normal because she did highlights too :).

I didn’t get to see Queso (the puppy) because he wasn’t dropped off Saturday until after I left and youngest took him to a friends farm for the day. According to middle son, pup slept for 12 hours straight. He was worn out ;).

Went to the dentist this afternoon because I chipped my front tooth last Thursday. He fixed it up beautifully. I go back tomorrow for my cleaning :).

My neck is a mess. First, the hair wash station always hurts me but it’s so much worse now since I hurt my neck weeks ago. Then the dentist chair always hurts me too. Time for mega dose of Advil :(.

I hope you have a fantastic day!

B.E., well my audience for those cookies was a 2 year old, so not much pressure there, LOL! Turbo is getting less upset each time, so he’s understanding we come back, I think.

I’ve been thinking about trying pizza dough. But so far, I’m not motivated enough to follow through. Yours always sounds so good!

Sorry for the heat. I’m not a fan of it, but it’s not too bad here right now.

    Happy Monday!

Silver, not much talent there, LOL! But thanks. Turbo used to be all daddy all the time, so we were surprised when he started this. I’m betting Stormy is confident he’ll see you guys again soon, plus you may have been around more than Wizard and I are with Turbo (just because we live farther way, not from lack of desire!)

Planning is a hugely important stop (one I skimp on too danged much) and the writing will go much faster for it! I’m thrilled about your book too :-)

You’re a hero for giving blood. I can’t, but would if I could.

Yeah, I’d think doing it the flag retirement ceremony in cooler and somewhat more stable weather would be a better idea. But sounds very important for the boy scouts to be there and experience it.

Cats are hilarious! Sorry, I know Loki is mad at you, but still…they are so funny. Of course it’s your fault! I hope aside from an irritated Boone and a traumatized cat, I hope Daisy was a good house guest. You had a busy house and a busy weekend.

Viki, yep I got them from Amazon. I just heard from Oldest today that Turbo was talking about the truck cookies, then morphed into Shark Cookies. I may have to look for sharp cookie cutters :-)

Hope you like your hair lighter! I’ve been doing blonder than I had before streaks and liking them.

Queso at a farm? I bet the puppy loved it! So funny that he slept 12 hours! But sorry you missed seeing him.

Bummer on chipping the tooth, but glad is wasn’t too difficult or prolonged a fix.

Your poor neck! And you’re going back tomorrow for a cleaning won’t help. I have a hard time with the shampoo bowl and dentist, but you sound like you’re in much more pain than I usually am from it. I really hope the Advil hurts.
