Weekend Round

Hey all! I hope everyone in the grip of the cold snap is safe, warm and stocked up on necessities!

Saturday we got to see Turbo. Always fun! He’s a Grandpa’s Boy, and I love it. I’m starting to plan a fun birthday cake for him. Can you believe it, he’s going to be 3 years old next month!

Sunday we made streak and shrimp, opened a bottle of wine, and I made some chocolate covered graham crackers (Wizard’s request) to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Youngest son’s birthday is this week. So I called him yesterday to figure out a time to see him (not nailed down yet) and ask him if he wanted me to make cookies or a cake. For that I got an instant answer, “Peanut butter balls!” I’ve redesigned my peanut butter ball recipes for him to adjust to his preference for non-dairy, and my attempts seem to be working out, LOL. They do tend to come out soft, but they are good if you keep them in the fridge, and I discovered by accident, even better in the freezer. Like chocolate covered peanut better ice cream :-)

I’ve been dealing with some doctor stuff, and while I like my doctor very much, I don’t love tests and running around. But that’s minor, and this week is looking much better than last, so I’ll happily take it!

How was your Valentine’s Day and Weekend? How’s the weather in your area?

Yay for Turbo Time, birthdays (Stormy turns SEVEN next month!!!!), peanut butter balls and youngest, plus romantic dinner with Wiz. Boo on doctor stuffs. As for me?🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
Our high today is supposed to be 2. TWO DEGREES. FARENHEIT! And going to -13 tonight.

There was a weekend. Only got a big promotion at work and needed a phone upgrade, which was our mission on Saturday. She’s still on our plan because…reasons. Anyway, she got the top iPhone 12, LG and I upgraded to 11s, we all have insurance, and unlimited text and data, which Only and LG always pushed the limits on with our old plan. And it came out to only like $25 more a month. I know have a phone waaaay smarter than me.

Snow. Cold. Frigid. It hit Sunday morning. Snowed all day. Only one feral this morning. I’m assuming the others are all tucked into their dens in a yard across the street. Worry about them. I reconfigured the “tent shelter” in case they make it over here today/tonight and decide to stick around.

We had beef stew and cornbread for Valentine’s Day. Not fancy but with single digits outside? Just hit the spot.

This week’s mission is to keep wild and feral critters fed and alive and the water pipes unfrozen. Master toilet was frozen this morning. Got the pipe thawed with a hairdryer. Shower and sink were fine. Now I have to make the toilet “run” all night. And I can’t shut the door because there’s no heat vent in there. Dear Canada, thanks but NO THANKS! Take it back!!!

Not much else going on. Just trying to stay warm.

It’s amazing how fast time goes by, especially when we are enjoying the little ones grow. They grow SO fast. I bet you’re having fun planning what to do for his birthday.

Happy Birthday (early) to BLB. I bet those bombs are the BOMB!

Sorry about the medical tests. They are frustrating. As you know, I’ve been putting all my stuff off. I just don’t want to deal with it and have to go where the virus is highly active.

You’re Valentine dinner sounds very yummy!

We went out and I got full way too fast and had to take my dinner home. Kind of fibbed (because hubs wanted the lava cake) and said if I took my dinner home I could share the lava cake with hubs. I had two bites. It was great but I had no room.

It’s very cold and we’re in for 12 inches of snow in the next 6 to 8 hours. Our high today was 19 and it’s going into negative digits over night. Oh well, we have heat ;).

Hubs took me to get my hair done. It’s darker than normal. The roots were so long DIL was afraid my normal color wouldn’t hold so she went up by 1/2. It’s hair, it grows, so it doesn’t bother me.

I am so sad for my best friend. Friday night she and her hubs went out for a couple hours and when they got home their 2 year old pup had crossed the bridge in his sleep. They are crushed. I am too. He was the sweetest guy.

Oh Silver – I am so sorry for all the trouble this cold spell is causing you. I am praying that you have no more problems. Stay safe.

Take care and have a good afternoon!

Larinda, sure. The peanut butter balls with dairy are:

    1lb of powdered sugar
    1 cup of butter, softened
1 heaping cup of peanut butter
Chocolate chips or melting chocolate (like Ghirardelli Melting Wafers–I use dark chocolate but that’s up to you.)

Mix the first 3 ingredients (powdered sugar, butter and peanut butter) with a mixer until smooth, and refrigerate dough until cold. Roll out into balls.

Melt chocolate in microwave, dip balls to coat evenly and put on waxed or parchment paper to set.

**To make nondairy, I use a lactose free butter, and substitute Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips for the chocolate. In my experience they will need to be refrigerated to set better, and will keep better in the fridge or freezer.

    Hope that helps!

Silver, hard to believe Stormy will be seven!

Congrats on knew phones and decent contract terms for good price. I love that :-)

I know it’s brutal cold there. I’m so sorry! Frozen toilet or pipes is never good. Hope you can keep enough water running in all of them to stay thawed. I feel bad for all the animals who live outside and get find a warm spot. I’m hoping all “your” feral will be okay.

Beef stew and cornbread sounds good to me.

I’m trying to send our mild weather your way!

Viki, I just hope we can pinpoint my issues. My guess is gallbladder, but who knows. I’ll get to the more routine tests later in the year.

I hope the peanut butter balls come out–they are usually pretty easy. I have the dough made, and will dip them tomorrow :-)

Sounds like a wonderful dinner! Sorry you got full so quickly. Lava cake is so good, I don’t know how you stopped even full. Really happy for you both that you got out for a nice evening.

Yay on getting your hair done despite the horrible weather. Awesome of hubs to take you. A half shade of color difference isn’t too dramatic, hope you like it!

OMGosh that’s just tragic for your friends. And the dog was only two years old too :-( I’m so sorry for them and you since you knew him too.

I hope you have a good week and stay warm!
