Weekend Roundup

All the weather stations bragged about a cool down. But they didn’t to mention the humidity–yesterday morning when I walked Maggie at 6:30 am, it was 81%. My hair and humidity are mortal enemies :-)

But the weekend was good.

Saturday was a Turbo day. He and his parents came over; we talked, we swam, and had a blast. So at one point, I’m in the kitchen doing something, and CPA Boy is saying something to Wizard.

Special K snaps out, “Don’t,” to CPA Boy.

CPA boy–pretending wide-eyed innocence, “What? I’m just talking to my dad.”

Special K, “Don’t get him started.”

Guys, I dropped my head and laughed so hard I might have snorted the wine I drank at dinner. Seriously! Special K is me, and CPA boy is his dad. Wizard and I have had this conversation hundreds of times! I honestly can’t remember the topic, but CPA Boy was needling his dad into a rant about something and amusing himself. The next day, Wizard and I both laughed about it (yes, Wizard was aware of the dynamic and playing along.) And trust me, Special K was not being mean or unreasonable. They’ve been married long enough now, they each know exactly what the other is thinking and the mischief they planning.

I love my kids. They’re hilarious, including their wives. The all make us laugh.

Turbo had a blast swimming in the pool and eating the drumstick (ice cream) I bought him :-) He swears he doesn’t like preschool, but he seems to be adjusting really well by participating, playing with other kids and able to follow directions. I can already see him growing and learning from the experience.

Sunday we were doing some numbers on the future. Exciting to us and boring the rest of the world. And I’m planning a cake I want to make this week for fun. Maybe a lemon cake, with a mascarpone buttercream swirled with raspberry filling center and lemon swiss meringue buttercream icing.  I’m thinking a subtle ombre color icing on the cake. We shall see if I can get all the ingredients and make it happen. I have so many skills to polish up or learn.

Today I want to write. I’m crossing my fingers that the plot fairies and real-life trolls both decide to cooperate.

How was your weekend?

Yay for a good weekend! LOL about CPA and Special K. Yay for Turbo time! Yay for cake! Fingers crossed for your writing. :hugs:

There was a weekend? Seriously, the damn thing flew by and I am so not ready for it to be Monday. I didn’t even do much this weekend. Worked on a bit of editing, watched a lot of Olympics, read some. It’s too hot to want to do much else. Bleh.

You have an amazing family and such baking talent. I could just picture that cake in my head. Yay for a good weekend.

Like, B.E., there was a weekend. LG had surgery at oh-dark this morning so he sort of overdid things out in the garage because no heavy lifting for two weeks. I chipped in and a a huge about of dusting and sorting through crappola in what was my old office and became the catch-all junk room. We’re trying to cut down clutter, get sorted,, have organization in the garage storage and actually be able to use the “Florida room” for a project/craft room.

The Kids got back from their St. Louis adventure Saturday evening and brought Drover home mid-afternoon yesterday.

I’ve been up since 4:30 so I’m thinking no work of any sort today and a nap is terribly likely. Words will have to wait.

    Later, taters… 🥱😴😴😴😴

Your poor hair. Humidity really sucks. Maggie and you must have been wiped out after the walks in the heat and humidity.
I love family dynamics, especially when they re-invent themselves in the next generation.
Sounds like you all had a wonderful Saturday. With Turbo there, how could you not :).
Nice cake ideas. I’d gladly eat whichever you make :). I love lemon cake.

Our birthday dinner for middle DIL was nice except the place she chose had no air conditioning and it was 89F with dew point of 72F. Just awful uncomfortable. The food and company were great so we survived. Next up, my birthday dinner. Trust me, it will be at a with air conditioning  .

I hope you are having a great day and getting all the words you had planned to get.

B.E., thanks for the crossed fingers on my writing–I need all the help I can get :-)

Monday’s show up whether we’re ready for them or not. I hear you on the heat, it just saps our will to achieve. But getting some editing done is a win, and down time is good for us.

Hope Monday is being good to you!

Silver, thanks but I’m just having fun with baking. I’ve always had to take short cuts, and now I’m taking the time “try” to build some skills from the homemade cake up to the decorating finishes. But it’s all just for fun. I’ve seen what truly talent bakers and “cake artists” can do…I’ll just stay over here in my armature corner, LOL.

I hope LG is okay! It must have been a long day for you starting off by getting the the hospital so early for his surgery. I’m sending all the healing vibes I have for him.

I know you two are doing a ton of work trying to sort, organized and declutter. I firmly believe the pay will get worth it. It probably is already with all you’ve gotten done.

Words will wait. You have enough on your plate right now and both your or LG’s health comes first.

    Viki, thanks on all :-)

I’m really glad you guys enjoyed the food and company for DIL’s birthday, but the lack of a/c is a real drawback. Bummer that it worked out that way. She probably didn’t realize, or didn’t think it’d be so hot.

Have you decided what you’re doing for your birthday? One of my DILs asked me, but I’m just unsure what’s happening with Wizard’s back and afraid to commit (although I can manage making dinner if any of them want to come out). But I really hope you and your family do something special for yours!

Hope you’re having a good day!
