Friday Five

TGIF! I can’t believe it’s October 1st! Okay let’s dive into sharing five random things about our week.

  1. The car is in the shop, and so far, we’re managing with one car. Many couples only have one car, so believe me, I’m not complaining, just telling you all about my week. We’re both really used to coming and going, plus we generally divide and conquer chores, including running errands. Now we have to think ahead a bit more, but it’s all manageable.  At least until next weekend if we don’t et the car back by then–Wizard has a three day race he’s super excited about going to and I’m not about to stop him.
  2. I’m still doing yoga usually three times a week, and this week, I’m trying to do some harder classes. I’m sooo going to feel that, LOL. There are a few things that I won’t do just because it’s not a good idea for me. That’s important in yoga (or anything really) to know and respect your limits. For me, it’s things like arm balances (those are pretty much what they sound like — you lift your legs off the ground and balance on your arms in weird contortions).  Considering I’ve had two discs in my neck replaced, I choose NOT to put that kind of pressure on my shoulders and neck. Plus I flat out don’t have the upper body and core strength to do it in a safe manner.
  3. Maggie knows my yoga routine. She’ll come in the room while I’m starting, then leaves once I’m moving. But at the end when I lay down on my back in  the closing pose called shavasana (also called corpse pose, LOL), she’ll come in. I have my eyes closed, but I always feel her. Wednesday night, she laid down next to me. I rolled to my side to pet her, then flipped to my back into the shavasana pose. And Maggie flipped to her back in the same pose, only her with her legs sticking straight up. It was hilarious. I don’t know if it was intentional, but let’s just believe she was copying my pose :-)
  4. Yesterday I decided to pull out my carpet cleaner and do the coffee table sized ottoman. That took a while since I basically had to learn to use it, but got nice and clean. So yay! Then I remembered that when we borrowed Special K’s carpet cleaner, she didn’t have the stair cleaner attachment, while this one does. So then I cleaned the stairs. OMG that was hard and took forever! That sucked up the entire morning and my whole day ended up trashed. Plus the stairs take pretty much the day to dry because the suction isn’t strong enough to get much water out through the hose and attachment.  I don’t regret it, but sure wish I had the same energy I had when the kids were small :-)
  5. I’m not sure what I’m doing this weekend. I’d like to get this book moving again, I really would but it’s just been a tough and distracted road. I’m thinking about cakes too but we’ll see.

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi! Bummer about your car being in the shop. Yay for yoga and LOL about Maggie doing the pose with you. Yay for doing the carpet cleaning and yeah, wouldn’t it be great if we still had the same energy as when we were younger? Good luck getting the book moving again and yes, cakes, too. Write a little, bake a little… rinse repeat.

    1) Wednesday we finished up with my friends’ move thing. Now we’re done and they’re gone. I wish them well, but I’m glad it’s over and I can get back to my regularly scheduled life.
    2) While cleaning, I was wiping cobwebs off the wall when I found a nail with the meaty part of my hand. Ripped the skin right off. It’s pretty gnarly looking and kind of ouchy when I move my thumb in a certain way. But it’s not deep and it’s healing well, so no worries. Battle wounds. I haz them.
    3) Today is Hubs’ birthday. Yay! My second favorite day of the year. (After my own birthday.) This whole ordeal of helping friends has sharpened my love for him and my gratitude that he’s my husband.
    4) I didn’t win the lottery again.
    5) Now that I’m getting back to normal – or as normal as I ever was – I need to really think about my writing business and get back to work. This weekend will be thinking. Monday I will get back to work. Or earlier if the mood strikes me.

I’m glad BE is back in the fold so I can simply say, “Ditto, what BE said!” re: your five. ;) And BE, happy B-Day to Hubs!!! Okay, my 5:

    1. It’s October 1st and it actually feels like fall outside. Yay! We got a little rain yesterday–desperately needed (not as bad as y’all but close) and chance of more rain overnight.

    2. Stormy played baseball Tuesday night. I kept score because Only had a funeral–the mother of a close friend. Her passing was expected and a blessing. I decided I’m too old to keep score. I need either a magnifying glass or a scorebook that’s HUGE! LOL Sadly, Thursday’s game was rained out so now we have 3 games next week. Yay.

    3. We got LG’s truck back earlier in the week, and it came in under estimate so that was a yay. However, it had to go back in the next day because the technition forget to reset the “warning” lights on the dash. Then yesterday, he lost RPMs while at a stop sign and it died on him. We’re waiting to hear back on when they can look at it. Cheers to better luck on Wiz’s car!

    4. I got about 2K words written this week. I should be doing at least 2K a day. Depressing. I also got notice that my rights are reverting on a former Kindle World book that I transferred over to the author who owned the world. Three years sure went by in a hurry. The contract ended in July but neither of us remembered. She’s a friend so we laughed but as of today, it’s mine again. It’ll go back up after I revise and take out references to her folks. I really need to get on that this weekend.

    5. And here I am, once again pondering what the heck to list as my number 5. I could mention my Cards clinched the second Wild Card slot and will play the Dodgers (most likely) to then take on the Giants, and then the winner of Atlanta/Milwaukee for the Division title and the World Series. I can dream. Or, I could mention I’m still doing my listen to the Old Skool paranormal romance series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I’m 3 books in and haven’t tossed my phone at the wall yet so I have to say her stories have held up okay, at least IMO. Neither of those are much interest to anyone but me so I’ll quit while I’m ahead. ;)

First weekend so siren test and Mexican food, unless it’s raining. No storm siren test during bad weather. LOL If we don’t make Mex food for lunch tomorrow, Stormy has 2 6:00 games next week so a late Mex dinner one of those nights. I’ll still get my fix, so it’s all good. Other than that, it’s revisions, Cards baseball and college football.

Have a great weekend, witches, whatever you do! 🥰

B.E., good to have you back!!

    1) You definitely went above and beyond helping out your friends!
    2) Ouch! I find those kinds of cuts on my hands so annoying as I forget until I try to do something and it hurts. I won’t mention a tetanus shot :-)
    3) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HUBS! You have a winner in him.
    4) Bummer.
    5) Yay for getting your life back enough to concentrate on writing even if it’s just thinking.

Hope you have a great weekend, and your hubs has a nice birthday!

Silver, jumping right into your five:

    1) Yay for rain and fall-like weather.
    2) I’m sorry for the loss of Only’s friends mother even thought it was expected and a blessing. All loss is hard. And I haven’t kept score in sooooo long I don’t remember how so you’re better than me :-)
    3) Dang, that’s frustrating on LG’s car! Ours is mostly straight forward body damage that should all be fixable. It sounds like LG’s is more of a troubleshooting issue which is a big gamble. You have my sympathy!
    4) Sometimes getting any words down is a win. Yay for getting rights back, but now it’s another project on your plate. That’s the life of a writer.
    5) Silver, should I mention here that Wizard is a hardcore Giant’s fan???? LOL! We’ll see how it all shakes out.

I love that you have a plan and a backup plan to make sure you get your fix, LOL! Have a great one!

It’s Sunday afternoon and I can finally sit and write my five :).

    1. So sorry about your car taking so long. I sure hope you have it back by the end of this week. You are a good wife to stay w/o wheels so Wizard can do his race. Nice ❤.
    2. I’m glad you’re still doing your yoga and being smart about it. I think we all tend to think we’re okay and often push ourselves too far and end up paying for it. After all you’ve been through with surgery and all, knowing what not to do is very important.
    3. Maggie is so sweet knowing when to return to the room when you are doing yoga. She’s very smart. She’s also really cute following along with ending moves.
    4. I hear you on how difficult stairs are to steam clean but man do they look good when done.
    5. I hope you had a great weekend and if you baked a cake, please post a photo.

1a. My Friday got all messed up when I got in my car and an electronics warning came up. I had to go to the dealer an that sucked up my day.
2a. I decided that this weekend I was going to switch out the bedspread for the down comforter. I had to pull up tutorials on how to stuff the duvet. It’s funny how I always forget how to do it.
3a. My right hip has been a bear lately. I don’t know if it’s the change in seasons or what but it’s killing me.
4a. Thursday afternoon there was a recall notice for my car. It has to do with the brakes and not what I had to take it in for Friday. I will be scheduling the car’s 2 year birthday physical for this month and have them take care of the recall then.
5a. I’m reading Rob O’Neill’s book, THE OPERATOR. He’s the SEAL that took out bin Laden. It’s an easy good read. I was concerned that it would be political but it hasn’t been so far. I’m glad :).

    Have a wonderful Sunday night!
