Friday Five

TGIF! Time to share five random things about our week.

  1. Maggie had a recheck and more booster shots at the vet. So far I’m very happy with the new office. Maggie was sore for two days after her shots. The poor dog has been through a lot this year. But she’s caught up for a while now, and hopefully won’t have any more problems.
  2. We went to the dentist. I had a great checkup. Poor Wizard had to start a crown to replace an old filling that had cracked. I feel for him, but now the worst part of that is done.
  3. Today, I will hopefully get my mammogram done. It took a LOT to get this appointment, but I imagine it’ll go fairly smooth. Fun fact about me–I’m weird enough that I sign into the sites to see my images of any of these exams, then do research on Google Images to see if I can “read” the x-ray, MRI or whatever it is. I never seem to remember that I’m not a doctor, nurse or anything remotely qualified, LOL. It’s just a quirk. I’ve been more right than wrong in my uneducated guesses, but I’m still not a doctor :-)
  4. In book news, Katie Couric makes me sad and annoyed. I try not to comment on books written about politics. But since this one was written my a journalist/entertainer on her career, I’m just gonna say what I feel: I’m utterly disgusted. What really ticks me off is the way she treated other women. Gaining or keeping success by trying to repress others is just revolting. I was pretty ambivalent about her before this, but now, she seems downright unlikeable to me. To be clear, I’m basing my opinions from excerpts released in the media, and her pre-release media interviews. I won’t buy the book. Okay, I’ll stop now :-)
  5. I have to think about Thanksgiving. And not only that, I need to actually reach out and discuss it with others like my kids because, as it turns out, they can’t access my thoughts and need actual concrete communication from me. Who knew?

So that’s my five now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yay for being happy with your new vet. Boo for Maggie being sore :hugs for her:. Yay for your dental checkup. Boo for Wizard’s :hugs for him, too: Good luck with your mammogram and yes, you should go right ahead and look at your scans. Question everything. You’re not a doctor, but it’s your body. Sorry you lost your ambivalence about Couric, but now you know. Gah, not Thanksgiving yet! But yeah, I guess you do need to start coordinating with the kids and junk. Good luck!

    1) Our internet is still spotty and craptastic. Right now, it’s fine, but I don’t expect that to last… mainly because it’s been off and on fine all week. And when it’s bad I can’t even get my email to load. Blerg.
    2) I love living here, even if basic services are sometimes craptastic.
    3) Hubs and I have been sawing up logs and stacking them under the sun porch. We currently have nothing with which to burn logs, but hey, it’s good exercise and an excellent way to take our frustrations out in a productive and non-violent manner. ;o)
    4) Who needs a chainsaw? Bah, two old people with bow saws are gettin’ it done. We also still mow with a push mower. That’s right, baby, total manpower. We rock.
    5) I wish there was a way to reset my brain so I could stop rehashing events over and over and over. I can’t change the past. What’s done is done and all that. Blerg.

Bless Maggie’s heart. Glad she’s done for awhile. Poor Wiz but yay you and I *can* read X-rays and scans so I’m with you there! ;) Never a Couric fan and after her “agenda edits” of RBG came out? Just say no. I got my T-giving orders from Uncle Fix-It so yeah, you need to share. LOL Okay, my five:

    1. I was leaning over a shopping cart to lift a bag of groceries and sneezed. Threw my low back out. Fun times. Not!

    2. LG’s truck came home via wrecker yesterday. Long, boring story. Also fun times. Not!

    3. Last night was Stormy’s last baseball game of the season. I think their record was 4-5-1. He did get two solid hits last night, with an RBI and a run scored. I’ll miss the games but won’t miss the parking nightmare!

    4. Very fall-like weather. Gonna be warmer this weekend but still shouldn’t need to turn on the AC. That a win in my book.

    5. I have a new favorite ice cream flavor! Blue Bell Moo-Llennium Crunch. It’s their classic vanilla ice cream with dark chocolate chunks, creamy caramel chunks, roasted pecan halves, chopped almonds and walnut pieces. It pushes ALL my ice cream buttons!

    Have a great weekend, all!

    1. Maggie sure has gone through a lot this year but she is a trooper. Tell her we all get sore from shots but she’s a strong girl.
    2. Poor Wizard. Crowns can be a painful process. I hope he doesn’t have any issues.
    3. I think it’s really great that you look at all your medical stuff and try to figure it out. I don’t have that option. If I did, I’m sure I’d become Doctor Vik too ;).
    4. I figured Katie out YEARS ago when she screwed over Debra Norville. Never liked Katie. I read her from day one.
    5. Ha Ha – I get that! Yes, you must talk to the family about Thanksgiving.

1a. Harrison went in for his 4 year check up and he is 42 inches tall and 42 pounds. So he says he’s 42 and 42.
2a. My mother finally met with an oncologist and she does not like him. I’m not surprised she hasn’t liked any one yet. The cancer was stage 3b and in lymph nodes. She is too weak for chemo. He kept telling her she is 81 implying something  . He told her they were doing nothing and he’d see her in a month. She’s looking for a new oncologist.
3a. Had to change auto insurance yesterday because hubs lease was up so he bought the car. Later last night I get this email from them that I had opted in to eSignature and needed to do all kinds of stuff. Needless to say they got a call this morning and now all is back to normal, and I didn’t even smack them through the phone.
4a. I’m trying to buy as many Christmas things now and from local places just to make sure I have them.
5a. Yesterday afternoon we had tornadoes to the north and the south of us, within 7 miles. While we’re watching it on TV the sun is out at our place. Weather is frightening but also really cool.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

B.E., Maggie’s feeling great today, so all is well. Mammo is all done and my week of appointments is over.

    1) Slow and spotty internet can be really frustrating when you’re just trying to get things done.
    2) It’s good that your happy there, and every place will have it’s drawbacks.
    3) LOL, well you’re prepared should you ever have a way to burn the logs.
    4) You do rock!
    5) I’d love that reset too. Sorry the pesky things in the past are haunting your brain. I do the same thing at times.

    Have a great weekend!

Silver, I likely never gave Couric much thought. I’m not big on TV personalities in general.

    1) Yikes! I cringed in sympathy for you. Hope you recover quickly.
    2) Oh no! I hope LG wasn’t in an accident. That truck is on a hot streak of bad luck.
    3) Yay Stormy!! Two hits, an RBI and a run scored is a very good game! I don’t blame you on the parking. I was a little amazed you were up to going after hurting your back earlier in the week. You’re a good Grandma!
    4) Definite win! We haven’t had to turn on the air in a week or two and I love it.
    5) You had me at dark chocolate chunks :-)

    Have a good weekend!

Viki, I’ll tell Maggie :-) She’s feeling a lot better now. Wizard is sore too, but improving. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the crown works. But he hasn’t complained at all.

    1) LOL! Harrison is so cute! And he’s growing well!
    2) I’d look for a new oncologist too. While I understand they may not be able to get all the cancer, or “cure” her, it seems to me (the woman who is NOT a doctor) that there might be some options to help keep things from progressing quickly. I’m sorry you’re going through this too, Viki.
    3) Glad you were able to get that straightened out with not smacking through the phone :-) Sometimes just talking to someone rational can get things solved.
    4) You’re wise and I am not. Seriously. You’ll be way ahead of the rush.
    5) That’s pretty awesome in a scary way. I’m just glad you were spared, and hope no one was hurt in the tornados to the north and south of you.

I hope you have a good weekend!
