Friday Five
TGIF It’s been a week. But now it’s time to share five random things about our weeks, so here’s mine:
- Wizard’s Tricky Tooth Saga goes on. I won’t bore you with the details, just sum it up with: Every attempted fix had uncovered a deeper problem. No one’s fault, they really couldn’t see how deep it was on the x-ray. Sooner or later, we’ll get it resolved. This has not been Wizard’s idea of a good time, now he’s on antibiotics and waiting for an appointment with a third dentist (two are different specialists).
- Our anniversary is Saturday. We had dinner plans and cancelled them. Wizard isn’t going to be able to eat, and we’ll celebrate once he’s feeling better. And honestly, there’s just other stressors going on.
- I baked a new-to-me mocha chocolate cake yesterday and immediately froze it–trust me this keeps them fresh. Then I made a big batch of buttercream and made part of that buttercream in chocolate mocha flavor using melted chocolate. I’m going to see how “soft” it is when I decorate the cake. If it’s too soft to decorate with, then I’ll use it for filling between layers. My plan was to make the cake tomorrow or Saturday if Wizard feels like eating it in a mini-anniversary celebration. - In good news, we have Thanksgiving planned at middle son’s house, and I’m really looking forward to that. It’s nice when the family pulls together. I love that.
- This week, we got to see Wizard’s sister and brother-in-law that we haven’t seen since Covid began. He’s a doctor working in a major hospital so he’s been understandably cautious about exposing others. We’ve really missed them. It was so wonderful to see them, catch up on our lives and how our kids are doing. That was a true highlight of the week!

Poor Wiz! Sending healing thoughts. Sorry for the stressors, sending good thoughts they go away ASAP. Yay for family and family time! And you’ve got a good one. Yum! Cake! Okay. My usually boring five…
1. I’ve decided to take all my books out of KU. That means some scrambling to get backmatter updated and getting MONTANA MOON finished and published ASAP. The next book due for renewal happens on the 11th and I have 2 hitting the day before T-giving. Plus…NaNoWriMo. LOL No stress! I got this!
2. Finally saw the “new” kitten from this summer’s feral litter. My neighbor’s daughter caught his sister and she’s been vetted and already adopted. No one could catch the little black one, named Warlock by my neighbor. He’s still little, fuzzy, and I think he may turn out charcoal gray rather than true black. He’s a shy one.
3. And then Tuesday happened. Interesting day, news-wise. And yay for the National League team–GO ATLANTA BRAVES!!!–winning the World Serious.
4. It’s been chilly here so we’ve done a lot of comfor foot–beef stew and cornbread, hamburger stroganoff, lasagna. Last night, we decided to do every-man-for-himself leftovers. Goods stuffs.
5. Looking ahead (because this was a boring week), tomorrow is siren test and Mexican food with the Kids, followed by DST reversal. Have I mentioned how much I HATE DST? Jeez-louweez, government! Stop the madness. I don’t care which you pick, just pick one and stick with it. FYI, I will not be awake at 4 a.m. instead of 5 a.m. Ugh.

1. Poor Wizard. The third dentist is going to be the charm and figure things out so that Wizard’s healed.
2. Happy Anniversary! Good idea to postpone dinner plans until that tooth is fixed.
3. Nice idea with the for tomorrow. Life
4. Nice to have at least one of the days figured out, isn’t it? I don’t even want to think about all the other days just yet.
5. How wonderful that you were able to see Wizard’s sister in BIL.
1a. My middle and DIL are going to see my mother tomorrow. He’s going to fix all her computer issues and help her out a bit.
. He took a kitty bite out of a slice I was holding. He was informed that it wasn’t good for him and that he could not have it again.
2a. Youngest called me this morning and the mom flag went up. My kids don’t call during the day, they text. Well, he wanted me to talk to him while he drove to the Urgent Care. Seems he cut himself at work and need to go get stiches. Few hours later he was working from home.
3. Our anniversary is the 9th but we’re going out this Saturday.
4. I keep seeing tiny frogs on my basement window around 1 am. I wonder if they hibernate around the foundation of the house. Maybe it’s warmer.
5. I made a banana cake they other day and guess what? Spunk likes banana cake

1) That’s a lot to do, but you have this. But you can only do so much, and the rest will have to wait. That’s just life sometimes.
2) It’s great that one of the kittens has been adopted! I recognize “Warlock” as you’ve talked about him before.
3) Go Braves!
4) Enjoy the cooler weather meals. And the every man for himself easy nights.
5) I know how much you hate the time change. You could always move to Arizona :-). The rest of us just have to adjust. Hope you had fun today!

Viki, thanks on all! Wizard has a consultation tomorrow and that should give us the plan to resolve it. I think it’ll be okay.
1) That’s great that middle and DIL are going to your mom’s. Just seeing them will be good for her. It must make you feel great that he’s visiting her.
2) Poor Youngest! I hope he heals quickly. I know that feeling you’re talking about. But at least it’s all taken care of and he should be fine soon.
3) Have a great dinner celebrating your anniversary!
4) Most frogs are nocturnal to some degree right? I don’t know a lot.
5) LOL on Spunk. I bet he was not impressed with the info that the cake is not good for him and he won’t get more.
