Weekend Roundup

It was a quiet weekend, which given last week stress dump, I’m grateful.  I did make a decision on my writing, and I’ll talk about that a little on Wednesday.

Saturday was our anniversary, and we celebrated as well as we could with Wizard’s mouth issues. We made some lobster at home, and I made a cake. We plan to do a nice dinner out once Wizard’s mouth gets sorted out :-)

I tried this “one bowl” chocolate cake recipe. I adjusted the recipe by 1) sifting all the dry ingredients, especially flour and cocoa powder. 2) I added a 1/2 tsp expresso powder to cocoa powder and 3) I used hot coffee if place of hot water. That both deepens the chocolate flavor and adds a bit of mocha taste. We both loved the cake. I didn’t get to try some decorating techniques I hope to because I was experimenting with chocolate icing. I still haven’t found the right one yet, and so I ended up doing a quick drip cake decoration, but that’s fine for us. But seriously, I loved that cake!

Saturday afternoon I got my Covid booster shot. Sunday, I felt okay, just a mildly sore arm and a slight headache but I took the day slow as a precaution. I did a little local shopping and found one warm pullover sweater which is all I’ll probably need for “heavy” sweaters. And we looked at the model homes being built by our house. We have the floor plans (we got them off the planning commission website) and we able to walk right into the newly framed structures. Nothing is gated off yet, so that was nice.

So how was your weekend?

Sorry I brainfarted out and missed Friday’s post. I’m glad you had a quiet weekend, but sorry to see you had a stress dump last week. And now I’m afraid of what your writing decision is. Whatever it is I’ll support you. :hugs: Happy Anniversary! Sorry you guys couldn’t do stuff because of Wizard’s ouchy mouth. :hugs: Yay for chocolate cake! And yay for a new sweater! And yay for ‘touring’ unfinished homes. It sounds like fun.

Nothing much went on this weekend. I made a chocolate cake, too, but I screwed it up and then I screwed up the frosting, too. It all tastes good, but it’s wrong. Thankfully, no one but Hubs and I saw it or will be eating it. Other than that, there was much woodsy stuff done. I think I might take today off, but time will tell.

🤗🤗🤗🤗 to you and Wiz for stress, anniversary, wandering, and CAKE! Which sounds totally filled with awesomesauce! Like B.E., I’m a little worried, too, but we’ve got your back. Always!

I got a little work done, a nap in, OSU (the RIGHT OSU) won, we had Mexican lunch with the Kids–food and company totally awesome as well. Weather’s been nice, I hate DST, and….I hope to have a “new” book up by the end of the week. I think I may have the revisions on MONTANA MOON figured out but I want to think about it today to make sure before I commit and end up having to redo.

On that note, I need to get into work headspace since I spent the morning at Wallyworld. Jake got to see all his friends so it’s all good!

Here’s to a happy and productive week for us all! 🥰

Lobster and cake sounds like a yummy anniversary dinner :). I bet it was just as good as if you had gone out. When you go out to dinner it will be wonderful and you won’t have to cook or clean up – always a big plus :).

The cake sounds yummy and kind of reminds me of the mocha cake I used to make for middle’s birthday every year. He and I were the only ones to eat it – it’s give you a rush.

I hope all went well for Wizard today with the dentist. Getting that tooth fixed is a top priority.

Nice to hear you had only a mild reaction to the booster shot. Hubs gets his Wednesday. I don’t care if I get one just yet. I have bad reactions to these shots.

We had our anniversary dinner out Saturday and it was lovely. I had a steak and I NEVER have meat out. I always get fish. It was cooked perfectly so I was very happy but it was huge. I’m eating the second half tonight. Tomorrow is our actual anniversary. We’ll be having bacon and eggs for dinner. We both love it and the eggs are from the farmer down the road.

Middle and DIL helped my mother out a bit over the weekend. She was happy with the help.

I hope you have a great afternoon!

B.E., no problem on Friday, we all have life distractions! We have always enjoyed model homes, but now we’ve seen so many, LOL. But when the time is right, it will happen.

As long as the cake and frosting tasted good, it’s still a win! I screw up baking and decorating a lot, either by a missed step, not reading directions correctly or my desire to change things. Shrug–as long as we enjoy it and don’t take it too seriously, it’s all good.

Woodsy stuff is productive! I know you’ve been working on writing projects too as the time and mood permits.

Hope your week is off to a good start!

Silver, the cake was good, and I ate more today, sigh. I need to stop. Where’s my usual discipline? Oops, never mind, around chocolate, I have zero discipline :-)

Yay for getting some work done, you’re juggling a lot with the books coming out of KU and going wide, plus your other projects. I know how much multi-tasking and brain power goes into all that.

Also great that OSU won and delicious Mexican food mixed with family time.

    Jake is a rock star!!

Lets all make the most of our week! Happy Monday!

Viki, thanks on all! The lobster was disappointing, and Wizard was trying so hard. But both of us just went with it, this is just one of those things that happens.

Wizard will go in next Monday to get the tooth extracted. It’s not going to be fun, so they’ll doing twilight. They wanted to do it this week but we have our nieces wedding this Friday, and Wizard doesn’t want to miss it. It’ll all work out.

Happy Anniversary to you and hubs! I’m glad you both had a great dinner out, and will enjoy an at-home favorite tomorrow night. It’s important to celebrate our marriages built on years of love and respect.

That’s such good news that your mom appreciate Middle and DIL’s help. You raised a great son and grandson. I hope your mom is feeling as well as possible. She’s really had a tough year and so have you.

Hope you have a really good week!
