Weekend Roundup

I’m writing this while drinking a glass of wine. It’s last night people, not this morning. Mornings are for coffee In fact, anytime is for coffee, but mornings REQUIRE coffee.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, my weekend.  Let’s go day by day.

Friday was awesome. We went to our niece’s wedding. It was gorgeous; She was radiant and sweet, he was handsome and charming. and seeing them marry is a true joy. Turbo also looked handsome in his dark gray pants, white dress shirt and suspenders. Too freaking adorable. I got lots of kisses, especially when I snagged a piece of chocolate cake for him :-)  All our kids and spouses were there, and that made it all the more special. Poor Youngest Son ended up a designated driver from the venue to the hotel they are staying at. He sulked. And a sulking youngest is hilarious. We all had fun teasing him.

Oh and I asked Youngest what smallish dessert he wanted for Thanksgiving. I’m making a cake he can’t have, so I offered to bring something else for him. He said peanut butter balls, and I made a face because I don’t feel like making those. He’s like, “Oh that’s right, you do, cakes so I want a Viper Cake” (a car). He’s so evil, really, guys. E.V.I.L. He knows darn well a Viper cake would be a major challenge that I can’t possibly do while doing the other stuff I’m making for T-day, so now he’s getting his stupid nondairy peanut butter balls.

But his birthday is in February, and now he’s getting a Viper cake whether he wants it or not.  He made be E.V.I.L., but I am the mother of evil, LOL.

So Saturday…boring. Only good thing was the movie we watched. Which I can remember the title of… I’d blame the wine, but I never remember titles, so it’s just me. Ha! I asked Wizard and the two of us together remembered the title! RED NOTICE. It’s like a spoof of spies and thieves, and we found it entertaining.

Sunday. Oh Sunday. I innocently pulled the salted caramel cake out of the freezer, having no idea that this was cake crazy. No really! It’s the truth. This cake did everything it could to ruin itself like a kamikaze cake (If that’s somehow offensive, sorry, I just don’t have the brainpower right now to worry about it.). Long, LONG story short, two and a half batches of icing, one awesome double batch of caramel sauce and three fricking attempts to decorate this cake–which means me literally scraping down the cake and redoing it to try to save it’s sugary self-destructive ass–and this is the result:

The cake is GLOATING at my decorating failure. But I have a message for this Salted Caramel Cake–I will ultimately win! One day, I will have an amazing salted caramel cake that tastes and looks amazing. Or I will default to a kick ass chocolate cake, because–obviously–chocolate fixes everything.

Right now, I just need my single glass of wine to soften the frustration of the day, and the pain from standing in the kitchen for 8 hours of torture battling a demented kamikaze cake. Again, sorry if that’s wrong, I just…the cake was mean to me and all I wanted to do was make it pretty :-(

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

That. Cake. Is. AWESOME!!!! So pretty and I bet it tastes scrumptious! You should be the one gloating! You kicked its carmally arse. So there! And yeah, you ARE the Mother of E.V.I.L., which is why your brood should know better. *bwahaha* They’ll learn! So happy the wedding was fun and beautiful. And was that movie on Netflicks and star Ryan Reynolds and the Rock? LG watched something similar with “red” in the title.

Okay, my weekend. It was mostly naps. Naps are good considering I am NOT adapting to the time change. I got the back matter for MOON SHOT, the first of my books to come off KU, updated and uploaded to D2D. It’s slowly going live. MONTANA MOON is going live too. Also, several of my books have finally made it only Hoopla through D2D. THAT’S a process. LOL

OSU (the REAL OSU) won. OU lost. My Pokes subsequently jumped OU in the rankings.

Did I mention naps? Saturday AND Sunday. Luckily, I’m still falling back asleep by what most people would call early so the naps aren’t interferring with the sleep pattern. And it’s not the sleep, it’s the waking up.

Not much else happening. The Kids stayed in. We stayed in. Still listening to the JAK/JC books. And that’s okay. Sometimes we need a slug of a weekend.

Here’s to a productive week for us all! 🥰

It’s a pretty cake! And I bet it tastes awesome. I’m so glad to hear the wedding went well and that you got to spend time with your whole family. LOL about Youngest. Give him the peanut butter balls and the Viper cake. That’ll teach him. :gigglesnort:

I spent a lot of the weekend dragging logs and sawing logs and holding logs steady while Hubs sawed them and then stacking the firewood we made. Other than that, it was TV, reading, poker, and eating. We’re almost finished eating the cake failure from last week. Time to make zucchini bread. Can’t screw that up. (Although now that I’ve said that, watch me screw it up.)

That cake is so pretty. I don’t know why you’d call it a fail except it took you twice to ice it, but that’s not a fail. That’s perfectionism. Did you guys eat it? How was it? I’m not a salted caramel girl but it really does look good.

How nice of BLB to be DD. I’m sure he got a drink at the hotel when they got back. I’m glad you had a nice safe drive home too.

A Viper cake! I would have loved one of those too. I really liked the Viper until I realized how it just wouldn’t work in the snowbelt ;). So peanut butter balls it is :).

When is Wizard’s oral surgery? I want to make sure I send up extra prayers.

Hubs and I went out for pizza at a new place here in our township. We never eat pizza out so this was nice. It was also expensive pizza which I warned hubs about ahead of time. The funny thing is the guys that own the place went to high school with Julie’s daughter. I would rate the pizza as the best wood fired New York pizza I’ve had. It was delicious.

Yesterday we had over three inches of snow but only an inch is still on the ground. Most of it sublimated.

I hope you are having a great day!

Silver, thanks! The cake just wasn’t what I was aiming for, not did I care much for it’s taste. But Wizard liked it and wants more tonight if he can eat it. Yep that was the movie, it was fun. Half the time I fall asleep during movies, but I stayed awake for this one.

Yay on getting your books uploaded! I didn’t know that D2D was a process like that. I’ve only done one that way a long time ago. I learn something new all the time :-)

You really are struggling with the time change. I never sleep through the night (like EVER), so I totally understand the misery of fatigue. I hope the naps are helping.

Oh, on books! I went to get JAK’s first in the series, and got distracted by another book on the NYTs list, and man do I regret that. Serious buyer’s remorse. Sigh…this is why I should have listened to you.

Hope your week is starting off right!

B.E., umm, when you put it like that (the peanut butter balls AND viper cake) yeah…I’m playing right into his game, LOL. But of course, I know I’m being manipulated, so…I’ll claim victory. Plus I want to make a carved cake. Those are fun.

Wow you deserve cake and zucchini bread after all that log hauling, sawing and stacking! That’s hard work! I trust your zucchini bread will come out delicious as always. But we all have those baking snafus.

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

Viki, thanks. The cake is a long story, but I had another design in mind that is done by using pallet knives to create buttercream flowers. I’ve been practicing but quickly learned I’m not ready to do it on an actual cake yet. So I redid the icing and tried a “wave” technique. In hindsight, that was probably oaky, but I wasn’t happen so redid it again. A string of other things went wrong too. By then I was exhausted and sloppy :-)

Yeah, I Viper in the snowbelt would need to be an extra sunny day type of car. Heck, I don’t think they’re practical as a rule. But they are fun!

So Wizard had the surgery this morning. he’s been sleeping all day. I got him up once to encourage him to eat (soft easy foods) and drink, then give him meds, and he’s back asleep. He should be okay in a few days. He’s had something like six visits and three doctors dealing with this stupid tooth. Poor guys hasn’t complained much, but he’s really tired of it.

That pizza sound awesome! What kind did you have? It’s not that easy to find good pizza. Personally, because I don’t get it often, I’d be willing to pay more for a good one.

You guys have snow there and it’s been stupid hot here. But I guess snow is normal this time of year for you.

    Happy Monday!
